[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1852791] [NEW] White box around gnome-terminal menu

2019-11-15 Thread EoflaOE
Public bug reported:

Whether the menu is open to zoom in, go to full screen, etc., the menu
spawns correctly with all of the buttons properly rendered, but there is
a white box behind the menu.

To elaborate, I have a fresh install copy of Ubuntu 20.04 development
branch on VirtualBox with the standard VirtualBox graphics driver (pre-
installed) to enable Mouse Integration. Everything renders fine, except
that if I have to open a menu to edit the preferences, the white box
behind the menu appears, but only in the right and the bottom edges. If
I click on the white box on either edge, the menu closes down. If I
hover over it, it shows the normal cursor, not the text selection
cursor.

The box does not have the curved corners unlike the rendered main menu
form.

gnome-terminal version:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1837392] [NEW] "unable to find firefox.desktop" when clicking "Show Details" on the Firefox menu (top)

2019-07-22 Thread EoflaOE
Public bug reported:

When a user tries to open the menu that is on the top, next to
Activities button, and clicks "Show Details", it opens GNOME Software,
but stays on the loading bar for a while then it says "Unable to find
firefox.desktop".

However, if I opened GNOME Software to search for Firefox, there are two

Firefox existed on GNOME Software, but it seems weird that it won't be
able to search for "firefox.desktop."

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1839217] Re: Bad user experience choosing partition labels

2019-08-07 Thread EoflaOE
In which Ubuntu and gnome-disks-utility version are you running? Gnome
disks does not give me an error message when formatting a FAT32
partition with the labels being lower case. Tried mixed case, and all
lower case. None of them gave me an error message. Tested in Ubuntu Eoan
Ermine with gnome-disks-utility 3.32.1-1ubuntu1.

Bug description:
For FAT partitions, labels have to be upper case.

FAT is the default for a new partition, but the default example label is
mixed case.
This means just going on recommendation, it's not going to work out, and the
user will get an error message.

A better user experience would be to simply tell the user that their
label will be made upper case, and ask them to confirm with yes/no. Or
just do it without asking TBH because I think upper-casing it by
default is a pretty harmless thing.

Title:
Possible security expoit using special characters to manipulate
  displayed filename.

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Use of special characters can be used to manipulate a filename
extension in Nautilus. We received a piece of malware with a filename
that appears differently with Nautilus than on the command line using
  ls.

With Nautilus we see: NO.00123Order# POrcs.pdf
With ls in bash we see: NO.00123Order# POfdp.scr

Using od the special characters are revealed as:
  ronp@ron:~/Desktop/virus$ ls *scr | od -c
  000 N O . 0 0 1 2 3 O r d e r # P
  020 O 342 200 256 f d p . s c r \n
  034

Before extraction from the archive, the file appears with question marks as
follows:
  NO.00123Order# PO???fdp.scr

Perhaps this would be a more secure way to display the file in
Nautaulis revealing the true nature of the file; scr instead of pdf.

This occurred with Nautilus 3.4.2 on Ubuntu 12.10 and Nautilus 3.6.3
  on Ubuntu 13.04

We note this type of exploit has been used before:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1839380] [NEW] Nautilus freezes when restoring hidden file

2019-08-07 Thread EoflaOE
Public bug reported:

I have trashed the hidden file using nautilus to the trash bin, be it
the hidden configuration file for XScreenSaver that is compiled from
source, and when it regenerated the hidden file, it is regenerated with
old config.

I attempted to restore the file, but Nautilus freezes. It should give me
the "Replace file with newer version" dialog so I can decide if I want
to replace the old file with the new one, or if I want to rename the
trashed hidden file to another name. It shouldn't freeze.

names.

  Description

The bug on the latest version of File Roller on Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan
Ermine has been confusing users about getting bogus and confusing
error messages like one of them containing invalid characters if unrar
is not installed on the system.

I have downloaded a .rar file to my Downloads folder, and tried to

error messages like invalid characters, "Fatal Error", or "Extraction
not performed". This will continue until I have installed unrar, which
  made the extraction work properly.

Not only does it happen on extraction, but also happens on opening
archives, which makes rar files useless until the utility is
  installed.

  Expected action:

The error message should say anything about unrar not being installed,
and possibly provide a confirmation if they want to install it or not.

  Actual action:

Users are confused with bogus error messages until unrar is installed.

I've generated a patch for it. Since it's generated from the link above,
can someone verify?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1935033] [NEW] Long height characters truncated in the bottom of the terminal if font size is 12

2021-07-08 Thread EoflaOE
Public bug reported:

I have noticed that the last line in the terminal that appears to have
the long height characters like the "|", "[", and "}" have been
truncated by a pixel in the bottom. For example, if I got a bash prompt
in the bottom of the terminal, and I've written such characters, I'll
notice that the above problem occurs.

However, this only happens if the font was set to Ubuntu Mono and the
size was set to 12px. Anything other than that, and the last line looks
normal.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open the terminal
  2. Continuously press Enter until you reach the last line
  3. Write the characters that have long height, like "{", "}", and so on.

What is expected to happen:
I expect that these characters appear normal

What actually happened:
These characters appear truncated in the bottom by a pixel or two

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1936643] [NEW] Logging in to GNOME 40.2.0 causes desktop icon extension to show as application in Activities overview

2021-07-16 Thread EoflaOE
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri, I have done today's updates, including
GNOME 40, and when I rebooted, I saw the desktop icons in the Activities
overview that has the grey gears icon and the gibberish name. However,
when I clicked on it, I'm taken to the desktop. When I open the
Activities overview again, that "application" didn't show up.

I suspect that this "application" came from a GNOME extension that
handles desktop icons, called gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng.
Because I thought that it loaded AFTER the Activities overview opened at
log in. This repeats every time I reboot or just log off and log back
in.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Update the Impish system to the latest version
  2. Reboot
  3. Log in

Expected results:
The "application" that came from the desktop icon shell extension doesn't
appear in the Activities overview

Actual results:
This "application" shows up in the overview with the grey gears icon and the
gibberish name every time a user signs in to the new GNOME 40 desktop

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1936644] [NEW] Right-clicking on the empty trash bin in the dock results in broken empty menu

2021-07-16 Thread EoflaOE
Public bug reported:

If the trash is empty (has no deleted files), the trash bin wasn't open
at the time, and I right-clicked on it in the dock, it would result in
the broken empty menu that appears in the top left corner. Moreover, it
always appears on top of every window and the top bar, essentially
blocking the Activities button and some parts of the application button
that shows the menu for the app.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Log in to GNOME 40
  2. Right-click on the empty trash bin in the dock (not in Nautilus)

Expected results:
  Nothing would appear.

The broken empty menu in the top left corner shows up

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1936643] Re: Logging in to GNOME 40.2.0 causes desktop icon extension to show as application in Activities overview

2021-07-22 Thread EoflaOE
Well, this bug does not only happen in every startup or logout/login,
but it seems that whenever you have an application open, focusing on its
window, and you locked the system and logged in again, the desktop icons
animate. However, when it zooms in, the application window loses focus.

About the "vanilla" GNOME thing, there should be an option that controls
how Ubuntu starts on log-in, whether or not to start to the Activities
overview.

Either way, this bug needs to be fixed sooner or later.

If I create an issue with installed packages, I get a "no entry sign"

menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message
was: ' Error: BrokenCount > 0' This usually means that your installed
  packages have unmet dependencies

  This message has numerous problems.

  1. There is no "right-click menu"; a left-click or a right-click on this icon
both show the same thing
  2. There is no "Package Manager" entry in the shown menu (there is the error
message above, a separator, "Show updates", a separator, "Show notifications",
and "Preferences")
  3. It recommends running "apt-get" which should be "apt"
  4. The error message has a space at the start of it
  5. The error message uses straight quotes rather than typographic quotes
  6. It does not end with a full stop despite being written as prose
