[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961508] Re: Dock displaying over window after resuming from blank screen

2024-01-19 Thread ExploreWiki
I reported this issue back on the 2022-02-20. I can't believe it is
still happening. I have also gotten used to re-maxing the windows!

If there is anything we can do to fix this bug, please just let us know!

Currently this bug affects 82 other people, and that's only the people
who have a launchpad account...

I have Blank Screen set to happen after 2 minutes of inactivity.

When resuming from a Blank Screen (by moving the mouse or touching the
keyboard), the Dock is displayed over the top of the current program.

To get it back to normal I need to click "Restore Down" on the current
programs window and then "Maximize" so that the Dock no longer
  overlaps it.

(Note: I have Auto-hide dock turned off.)

This only happens sometimes. I can't reproduce the bug it every time.

  3) What you expected to happen
  - Dock should not overlap the current program on resume from screen blank.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1968040] Re: Blanked screen doesn't wake up after locking [drmModeAtomicCommit: Argument invalide] [drmModeAtomicCommit: Invalid argument]

2023-03-03 Thread ExploreWiki
Josef, did you try the workaround in the original post? The workaround
fixed the problem for me on Ubuntu 22.10.

[ Workaround ]

Add to /etc/environment (in Ubuntu 22.04):

  MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0

or in Ubuntu 22.10 and later:

  MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple

and then reboot.

Full instructions:

1. Open terminal: CTRL + ALT + T
2. Type: sudo nano /etc/environment
3. Enter your password
4. Add the following on a new line: MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0
5. Press: Ctrl + O
6. Press: Enter
7. Press: Ctr + X
8. Type: Reboot

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1947920] Re: tracker-miner-f 100% CPU and slows system down

2023-02-23 Thread ExploreWiki
My problem was with the CPU being throttled to 500Mhz if I turned the
power supply on at the wrong time during boot up. Nothing to do with
tracker-miner-f.

Please delete my bug report!

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1961540
tracker-miner-fs-3 massive CPU usage and system slowdown

** Changed in: tracker (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

** Description changed:

- tracker-miner-f has been using 100% CPU and my system making it almost
- unresponsive. This happens around once a month or so when I boot up. It
- sometimes lasts for a number of days (or a number of resets) until the
- system becomes responsive again.
-
- The command "tracker status" always shows the same thing: "Estimated
- less than one second left" although it appears that everything is
- already indexed because the file and folder counts do not increase.
-
- Even so tracker-miner-f is still showing 100% CPU
-
-
-
- inspiron@Inspiron-7348:~$ tracker status

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971149] Re: Wayland session: Internal display is black after sleep

2023-01-12 Thread ExploreWiki
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1968040 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968040

I have a similar problem using an external HDMI monitor connected to a
laptop.

It happens with the blank screen after a period of inactivity (without
using the screen lock).

After the screen has gone blank due to a period of inactivity, I move
the mouse or press a key on the keyboard to wake up both screens.
However, 1 of 3 things will happen:

1. The laptop's screen will wake up but the external monitor doesn't wake up.
2. The external monitor will wake up but the laptop's screen doesn't wake up.
3. Both screens will wake up as they should.

To get both screens to wake up, I right click on the active screen and
click "Display Settings". Click on "Mirror" then back to "Join", then
"Apply" then "Revert Settings". The blank screen then realizes it is
supposed to be on and it wakes up. The other option is to unplug and re-
plug the HDMI cable in, but I got tired of doing this.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961508] Re: Dock displaying over window after resuming from blank screen

the Evolution mail window so I ran the apport shown above.

Dock displaying over window after resuming from blank screen

Status in Dash to dock:
  Unknown
Status in Mutter:
  New
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have Blank Screen set to happen after 2 minutes of inactivity.

When resuming from a Blank Screen (by moving the mouse or touching the
keyboard), the Dock is displayed over the top of the current program.

To get it back to normal I need to click "Restore Down" on the current
programs window and then "Maximize" so that the Dock no longer
  overlaps it.

(Note: I have Auto-hide dock turned off.)

This only happens sometimes. I can't reproduce the bug it every time.

  -

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
  - Ubuntu 21.10

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
  - Not sure (I guess the Dock is part of the Gnome interface?)

  3) What you expected to happen
  - Dock should not overlap the current program on resume from screen blank.

  4) What happened instead
  - The Dock overlaps the current program on resume from screen blank.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961508] Re: Dock displaying over window after resuming from blank screen

2023-01-12 Thread ExploreWiki
apport information

** Tags added: third-party-packages

** Description changed:

I have Blank Screen set to happen after 2 minutes of inactivity.

When resuming from a Blank Screen (by moving the mouse or touching the
keyboard), the Dock is displayed over the top of the current program.

To get it back to normal I need to click "Restore Down" on the current
programs window and then "Maximize" so that the Dock no longer overlaps
  it.

(Note: I have Auto-hide dock turned off.)

This only happens sometimes. I can't reproduce the bug it every time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1968040] Re: Blanked screen doesn't wake up after locking [drmModeAtomicCommit: Argument invalide] [drmModeAtomicCommit: Invalid argument]

2023-01-12 Thread ExploreWiki
I have a similar problem using an external HDMI monitor connected to a
laptop.

Not sure if this is related because it happens with the blank screen
after a period of inactivity (without using the screen lock).

(initially reported as a comment on bug #1965085, and split into a

After I lock my screen and let it blank, moving the mouse or pressing
any key on the keyboard won't wake it up. The only reliable workaround
I've found is to press Ctrl+Alt+F1.

That's on a fully up-to-date jammy, my hardware is an Intel NUC with a
single Samsung monitor connected with a standard HDMI cable. This is a
regression that started happening yesterday (2022-04-05) if I can
remember correctly (I do apply pending updates at least once daily).

This is still happening on Ubuntu 22.10.

I can run apport-collect 1961508 again when it happens again if that
helps to get this fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961508] Re: Dock displaying over window after resuming from blank screen

2022-10-20 Thread ExploreWiki
Sebastian, are you using an external monitor connected to HDMI when this
problem occurs?

I've just seen Andrea's comment above in number 3 and noticed that I
have the same setup. Laptop with an external HDMI display plugged in.

I can now replicate the problem consistently. When I plug in the
external HDMI monitor, the dock on my laptop overlaps the window. When I
unplug the HDMI monitor the dock on my laptop goes back to normal.

So I believe this problem is related to using a HDMI external monitor.
The external monitor doesn't have a dock and so it goes full screen
which is correct. However, it also puts the laptop monitor full screen
sometimes, and therefore the dock overlaps the window.

This only happens sometimes. I can't reproduce the bug it every time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962638] [NEW] Ubuntu dock overlaps programs after resume from screen blank

2022-03-01 Thread ExploreWiki
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
- 21.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

ubuntu-desktop:

  Version table:
 *** 1.472 500
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu impish/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
- The Ubuntu dock should be displayed next to a program after resume from
screen blank.

4) What happened instead
- The Ubuntu dock overlaps the program when resuming from screen blank. I have
to click "Restore Down" and then "Maximize" so that the dock is displayed next
to the program, rather than over the top of it. It doesn't happen on every
resume from screen blank, it happens randomly and it happens on different
programs. I have "Auto-hide the Dock" disabled. Please see screenshot for an
example.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961540] Re: tracker-miner-fs-3 massive CPU usage and system slowdown

2022-02-24 Thread ExploreWiki
My system had some CPU throttling issues causing Ubuntu to lag,
everything is fast again now. I have set this to invalid for now. I
think something else is going on with my system.

** Changed in: tracker-miners (Ubuntu)

  3) What you expected to happen
  - Ubuntu indexes the files in the background at a very low priority.

  4) What happened instead
  - Ubuntu grinds to a halt and the CPU usage is off the chart right after I
boot up when search indexing is enabled. When checking the "System Monitor" it
is always "tracker-miner-fs-3" consuming all of the resources.

I have been having problems with tracker-miner since 20.04 LTS and so
I upgraded to 21.10 and I'm still having problems with search indexing
bringing my system to its knees and making Ubuntu clunky and unusable.

I have attached a photo of my system specifications.

  --

My previous bug report for 20.04 is here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/1947920

  I'm using the same system.

  --

The only fix I have found is to completely disable search indexing:

Settings > Search > Turn Off Search Indexing.

After doing this, my system is running perfectly again with low CPU
  usage!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961508] Re: Dock displaying over program after resuming from blank screen

2022-02-20 Thread ExploreWiki
This might have been caused by my system running so slow due to the
other bug I'm having with tracker-miner consuming all CPU:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker-miners/+bug/1961540

The system was so sluggish on resuming and the Dock took forever to
realign.

After turning of search indexing: Settings > Search, I can no longer see
this problem.

2022-02-20 Thread ExploreWiki
This might have been caused by my system running so slow due to the
other bug I'm having with tracker-miner consuming all CPU:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker-miners/+bug/1961540

The system was so sluggish that the Software Center simply did not load.

After turning of search indexing: Settings > Search, the Software Center
is loading just fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1961540] [NEW] tracker-miner-fs-3 massive CPU usage and system slowdown

2022-02-20 Thread ExploreWiki
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
- 21.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

tracker-miner-fs:
  Installed: 3.1.3-1
  Candidate: 3.1.3-1
  Version table:
 *** 3.1.3-1 500
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu impish/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
- Ubuntu indexes the files in the background at a very low priority.

4) What happened instead
- Ubuntu grinds to a halt and the CPU usage is off the chart right after I boot
up when search indexing is enabled. When checking the "System Monitor" it is
always "tracker-miner-fs-3" consuming all of the resources.

I have been having problems with tracker-miner since 20.04 LTS and so I
upgraded to 21.10 and I'm still having problems with search indexing
bringing my system to its knees and making Ubuntu clunky and unusable.

I have attached a photo of my system specifications.

The fix for me was to completely disable search indexing: Settings >
Search > Turn Off Search Indexing. After doing this, my system is
running perfectly again with low CPU usage!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1525628] Re: tracker needs to be killed on every boot

2021-10-20 Thread ExploreWiki
This is still happening in 2021. My system was stuck running tracker-
miner-f with 100% CPU usage and it kept saying 1 second remaining
although it was completed. Every few weeks my system goes completely
sluggish, almost unusable and it is always tracker-miner-f. I just
submitted another bug report before seeing this existing one. Feel free
to remove my new bug report here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/1947920

I've just tried resetting the tracker to see if that helps.
