[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1755106] Re: /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/ fails to load
Not sure if my problem is related to this one. All my shortcuts seem to work as expected, except for the ones used to control playback: play/pause, next track, and prev track work only if I use them in combination with the Alt Gr key (aka Lever 3 Shift). Since I already have to press Fn to activate media-keys, it means I have to use a combo of 3 disperse key just to play/pause the music... I have tried to use the above ppa, but it did nothing, since the official repos seem to have the updated versions of the packages already. I should also say that I have installed my Unity desktop from an initial Xubuntu desktop setup. So I don't know if I am missing something from Gnome or if I am having some conflicting setting from XFCE or some other environment, as I've been DE-hopping quite much in last year... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755106 Title: /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/ fails to load Status in unity-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: $ dconf dump /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/ [custom1] binding='BackSpace' command='gnome-session-quit --power-off' name='gnome-session-quit --power-off' [custom0] binding='g' command='gnome-terminal --geometry=80x99-0+0' name='gnome-terminal --geometry=80x99-0+0' $ In spite of the above, time to time, not always, but since 18.04 much much more frequently this settings fails to become active just after booting, ... my account is logged in automatically just after boot. If I log out and log in again, then these key bindings work. If I go to the system settings, and define again, then these work again. Earlier, before 18.04 this phenomenon was rare, namely once a week at most. But since 18.04 it is almost guaranteed, not deterministic, but highly probable, that after an initial boot or a warm reboot these key bindings will not work. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574020] Re: Can't use networkmanager from lightdm
Exactly the same as the OP describes happens on my laptop, too. Clean install and all that. Except that before installing Xenial I was using Wily, and that I have Atheros wifi on a Toshiba laptop, which only confirms that "it has nothing to be with the chip", nor with the related modules/drivers. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487702] Re: [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch
We don't understand each other, Raymond. I AM trying to use a headset (headphones + microphone) with a combo TRRS jack on a combo plug, but Ubuntu never switches to the mic when the headset is plugged, and just uses the laptop's integrated one instead. I mentioned dell-headset-multi, because adding that option model was the only way I could see a headset and mic actually recognized. However, it still keeps the mic deaf, so there is no use of it for an end user. I don't think I entirely understand you when you are talking about hex- coded nodes and pins, I am just an end-user, so you will have to use plain English with me. And I am not even a native English speaker, while we are at it... If you think my bug report is incomplete, I would like you to be so kind to explain to me how to make it complete. I reported, because I would really like to see this solved. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487702] Re: [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch
I hate repeating myself, but: I am just an end-user, so you will have to use plain English with me, as stated before. Your posts are mostly gibberish to me. I don't understand much of what you are trying to say, if anything. And I still don't understand why do you insist this report is incomplete. Please, keep in mind that I am obviously NOT AN ALSA DEVELOPER, so explain what you are talking about at all, and what exactly do you expect me to do, and give me precise instructions in how to do it, and what's the risk factor, and what exact info you need, etc. You are not talking to your colleague at work, nor to your pals at a hack meeting, I am just a guy who'd like to use his headset with his laptop, that's all. That said, I guess I understood (the only thing I did!) you wanted to see what alsa-info.txt looks like with dell-headset-multi enabled, and headset plugged-in, so there you are, see attachment. It seems to me that this option is getting me somewhere, but not quite there. It adds the ability to choose a headset as a capture source, but the mic remains deaf. Could it be that Alsa is not yet having full support for the ALC233 codec? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487702] Re: [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch
I have tried adding options snd-hda-intel model=dell-headset-multi to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Sound settings seem to recognize a headset is plugged with that option, but the headset's mic itself remains deaf, no matter how much boost I give it. I guess the option isn't working correctly, because, obviously, I am not running a Dell laptop, but also because I am running the Realtek ALC233 codec, and that option model is only listed as working on codecs ALC269/270/275/276/28x/29x and ALC66x/67x/892. I am talking about this list: http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-kernel.git;a=blob;f=Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt;hb=HEAD Funny thing is that ALC233 is not listed there at all... Anyway, it seems like, for now, the closest I could get to make a headset working was with that Dell-related option. I hope that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1487702 Title: [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: It is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N to be precise. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1473088] Re: network manager peap mschapv2 authentication stopped working
This would indicate it is an upstream bug, after all. Is there anybody able to try the same with Vivid? I might be wrong, but I don't believe this is wpa-supplicant-related, because there were reports of being able to connect manually with wpa- supplicant, from CLI. So it is most likely NetworkManager's fault... again. But it could also be some change in wpa-supplicant that broke communication between the two. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1473088 Title: network manager peap mschapv2 authentication stopped working Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Probably in a recent update, the connection to our MSCHAPv2 / PEAP network with security set to WPA/WPA2 Enterprise. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1473088] Re: network manager peap mschapv2 authentication stopped working
You mean the ignore CA certificate checkbox? On my system it seems to work fine. If checked, it doesn't ever ask for a cert; in the edit connections window, under the wireless security tab, the No CA certificate is required checkbox remains checked; and there is no mention of CA certs in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connetcions/[NetworkName]. So this bit seems fine to me. What's bothering me, is that nonetheless it just doesn't connect anymore. I can't check if using a cert would make any difference, as my faculty doesn't provide one. But I assume Zacharias did test it both ways (CA and no-CA), getting same results. It could easily be related to a kernel update, though. Or to a NetworkManager one, since this is happening on at least three differently branded cards: your Intel, my Atheros and Sacharias' Broadcom. And all three brands are VERY common, btw...
I don't believe this is certificate-related this time. In the linked bug Zacharias Steinmetz says: Same on my PC running Vivid (3.19.0-22, BCM4313), both with certificate added and ignored. In my case, it is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N with Vivid 64, same kernel version as Zacharias, but a Qualcomm Atheros card (Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01), running with the ath9k module). Walter Garcia-Fontes suggested on the linked bug that this new one could be hardware-specific, but here we see that the issue comes up with at least two different brands of wifi cards, i.e. Atheros and Broadcom. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to WPA2/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 network without CA_Certificate
As I said before, on my Toshiba laptop with Qualcomm Atheros WiFi and Ubuntu Vivid 64 it worked brilliantly at first (and still it does on a non-updated live media), but it stopped working, probably after who-knows what update, which is why I don't believe it is a hardware issue. That said, I do agree with Walter, we should open a new bug report for this one. I would do it myself, but for now the only place where I can test this is my university, which, if everything goes well, I am finishing next week, when I'll be giving my MA thesis presentation. So, ATM I am kinda busy preparing for that, and once that's done, my access credentials for the uni network will soon be cancelled, and I won't be able to contribute any test reports. So I concluded it would be pretty useless for me to open it. And then about Steve... :-D I have worked in hotels and restaurants, and I know very well what special extra spices some customers get, including those who despise the free lunch. I was today at the faculty again, and I still couldn't connect to the network with my Ubuntu Vivid laptop, but my Android phone could. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1383690] Re: Brightness and lock [fn] hotkeys don't work until first suspend
Thank you for your answer! However, I must say I don't feel comfortable with flashing BIOS right now, because I don't really know how to do it, and I am in a mission critical situation ATM, so I would rather not risk ending up with an unbootable laptop. I see. And there is also a vague hope from the author himself to push the changes, but not before he has that last bug figured out. Whatever bug it is, and whatever goes on in his head... He obviously thinks it is fine to publish a buggy xpi file, but the source code has to be perfect before published. Like he doesn't want anybody else to eventually fix it... [Desktop-packages] [Bug 703250] Re: Tomboy doesn't remember window position size
So now it's the four of us. :-) I have been facing this bug since... I don't rember. :-D And I don't remember it being ever fixed, neither. I just guess nobody cares about this bug report at all... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to tomboy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/703250 Title: Tomboy doesn't remember window position size Status in “tomboy” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: tomboy Hello, I'm using Tomboy 1.5.2 both on Maverick (laptop) and Natty alpha (desktop computer) with Ubuntu One synchronization. It works very well except one thing : when I move a note on a precise part of the screen (example: on bottom right), after closing and restarting Tomboy, note comes back at top left corner of screen. Other problem regarding window size, sometimes length and width of note are not saved, and reopening it will place note in top left, size default little square. Also, when I want a note being always maximized, it is not remembered by Tomboy. If I just close the note and reopen it, it is well maximized, but if I close Tomboy, launch it and open note, it takes again the original size, it's not maximized. One way to bypass this is to enlarge the note to take all screen place (as if it was maximized), but it's not fully expected behavior. Thanks for your help. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer
Matthew, I have enabled trusty-proposed repository, updated repo lists and then did sudo apt-get install evolution-data-server to upgrade it, and I accepted to install all the necessary dependencies with it. When finished, I re-disabled that repo. aptitude show evolution-data-server lists the packages you mention as dependencies, so I assume I have them all up to date with the proposed repo now. Could I be wrong? Alberto, yes, the calendar service seems to still be the problematic one. Both before and after I upgraded to the proposed packages the bug appears only when calendar is enabled. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1029289] Re: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer
I am a long time Ubuntu user, and I am using Trusty since day one, but I started to experience this just recently, I guess after 14.04.1 was released I have a regular Google account, too. Firefox keeps me logged in, Online Accounts doesn't. I don't have to reboot, on my system the bug is reproducable by rurning off and on the Google account in the Online Accounts diolog. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to account-plugins in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1029289 Title: Need to authorize my google account each time I boot the computer Status in Online Accounts: Account plugins: In Progress Status in Online Accounts: OAuth2 plug-in: Unknown Status in Online Accounts: Sign-on UI: Fix Released Status in “account-plugins” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “signon-plugin-oauth2” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “account-plugins” source package in Quantal: Fix Released Status in “signon-plugin-oauth2” source package in Quantal: Fix Released Bug description: [Test Case] Sometimes after one day, sometimes after one week, the system indicator will turn red and the Google account will be marked as needing reauthentication. Time can vary, but any period shorter than one month is a symptom of the bug. [Regression Potential] Minimal: the change to the Google plugin (in account-plugins) simply changes the authentication method, in a way that is well-documented. The change in signon-plugin-oauth2 affects only those accounts/providers which use the OAuth refresh tokens -- which is only Google, at the moment -- and in a way that can't possibly break any existing functionality; if the new code had some mistake, the refresh token would be unusable and the system would automatically fall back to requesting a new access token (which is exactly what happens now, with this bug). I'll try to find why the account-plugins package was not uploaded; indeed, both are required in order to fix this bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to WPA2/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 network without CA_Certificate
You are not seeing this problem because you ARE using CA certificate. When you don't have one Network Manager should ignore it and connect anyway, if you tell him so, which doesn't happen without manually editig a config file to force it to do so. Now, it IS true that using a cert is safer, but my faculty doesn't even provide one. The network we use there is not Eduroam (though we have that too, for guests), but a local one. A year or so ago, I wrote them about this, they told me that it wasn't necessary, and that they don't have plans to provide it in the future. So I was thinking Oh, well, whatever. As long as I can connect. And from the comments above, I see that my faculty is not the only one. So this is still of high importance, if not critical. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1104476 Title: Network manager cannot connect to WPA2/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 network without CA_Certificate Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I can connect to Eduroam in 12.10 and any other previous release, but not in 13.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 856217] Re: Let you install only the translations (not the input methods, dictionnaries, etc)
Yep, I am ranting, too. It's a regression, not a benefit. As a slavistics and italianistics student, I need italian, slovenian and serbian cyrillic writing support (+ english is sometimes useful, too), because I read and write in all those languages for study and work, while my native (and default GUI) language is croatian. Am I supposed to have 4 (or even 5) different complete language packs installed on my system now? It would be crazy, I don't need all that. I want my GUI to be in croatian, while being able to use all the benefits of writing in other languages, without the need of installing all those translations. I want those checkboxes back. At least, make an Advanced button or something that would let us choose more in detail what language packages we exactly need, in case we don't need them all... The actual design is very bad for people working with various languages. The way it was before was just great. I was always promoting Ubuntu among my co-students for this feature, not anymore... :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to language-selector in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/856217 Title: Let you install only the translations (not the input methods, dictionnaries, etc) Status in “language-selector” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “language-selector” source package in Oneiric: Fix Released Bug description: The Oneiric beta2 version seems to only let you install langpacks but not the dictionnaries, input methods, etc * open language-selector * click on add, remove * select a language and look the boxes at the bottom, only the translation one can be ticked To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+bug/856217/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
