[Desktop-packages] [Bug 746362] Re: No Input Sound On XPsound XP203 USB External Sound Card In Ubuntu 10.04

2020-05-05 Thread Glenn Moloney
Hi Marcus. So sorry for the delay. Yeah you might as well close this off
as I wrote this over 9 years ago & things have moved on since 2011.
Cheers.

Title:
No Input Sound On XPsound XP203 USB External Sound Card In Ubuntu
  10.04

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Please check the following Ubuntu forum link further info
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10620978#post10620978 . To
fix the fault run alsamixer via the terminal & changed the PCM capture
source from Mic to Line (See attached screen shot). A bit strange
because you can make the same change in Sound Preferences / Input tab
& the fault persists. If the PCM capture source by default was set to
Line in alsamixer this would probably fix the fault permanently.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2017-04-29 Thread Glenn Moloney
Just to confirm, for me the problem is fixed if you have downloaded the
latest ISO version 16.04.2, installed the operating system, then once
installed you MUST manually run the Software Updater & do all the
updates & reboot. Unfortunately ticking the box during the installation
to say do the updates during the install isn't enough!! You'll find then
that the Hidden Wireless Network isn't greyed out.

It's just a shame the update wasn't applied before the 16.04.2 ISO
release because at the moment if you install & don't do the full updates
you will have the problem. It's annoying too because during the
installation of the operating system if you've connected to your Wifi
then reboot, it will be greyed out because you haven't had the chance to
run the software updater ... When that happens to save time I click on
the network connections applet & select edit network connections, then
under Wifi delete my initial Wifi connection I made during the install,
close it & make a new connection to my Wifi & do all the updates via
Software Updater.

This will be fixed by the time 16.04.3 is released but that's a while
down track which is why I was hoping the patch was done before 16.04.2
ISO was released but it just missed out...

The only thing I don't know is what Christopher rightly mentioned on #43 is if
you installed Ubuntu from either ISO version 16.04 or 16.04.1 & you have done
all the updates if the problem is fixed.. For me I only install Ubuntu LTE
version from .2 onwards because it has the rolling kernel release for newer
hardware (HWE) which I prefer personally but if people choose to use the fixed
linux kernel version 4.4 which is under either ISO version 16.04 or 16.04.1
then thats fine but someone will need to test.
I've done at least half a dozen machines using the 16.04.2 ISO & using the
procedure above it's fine but as mentioned just annoying.. Sorry for the long
comment..

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2017-03-25 Thread Glenn Moloney
I've just done a fresh install today of 16.04.2 which has network
manager version 1.2.2. Once the updates are completed the network
manager has been upgraded to version 1.2.6. I can confirm that the
"Connect" button when trying to connect to a Hidden Wireless network so
no longer greyed out & the problem has been resolved! As Sebastien
mentioned in comment #24 up & coming updates have been passed through &
have resolved the issue.

Because of this I'd say the status of this bug will need to be changed
to Fix Released & close this bug.

Cheers.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2017-02-13 Thread Glenn Moloney
Hi Frédéric,

On the fresh install I've enabled the "Source code" repository,
installed the dependencies using the commands from #34 & followed the
instructions from #32 & after a reboot the "Connect" button is no longer
grayed out woo hoo!!

Mate thank you again for your help as for me it's an important bug for
me to have resolved!!

I was hoping this would make it into the release 16.04.2 but after
sending Aron a message with no response as yet it's not likely.

Hopefully if one of the developers has some time to apply this patch /
fix this bug once & for all in the very near future so no one has to
install the extra dependencies to make it work.

Cheers Frédéric.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2017-02-11 Thread Glenn Moloney
Hi Frédéric,

Thank you for the clear instructions as from my point of view it's much
appreciated!!

Unfortunately I've hit a hurdle with either an existing install or a
fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 with all the updates completed...

The first two commands in the terminal worked perfectly fine & saved the
file in the home directory.

$ wget -O 0001-wifi-dialog-fix-enabling-of-Connect-button.patch
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=328481
$ wget -O 0002-wifi-dialog-enable-Cancel-button-if-secrets-are-not-.patch
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=328482

However the third command came back with the below response.

$ apt source network-manager-applet
Reading package lists... Done
E: You must put some 'source' URIs in your sources.list

And the forth.

$ cd network-manager-applet-1.2.0/
bash: cd: network-manager-applet-1.2.0/: No such file or directory

If possible are you able to confirm the third & forth commands or
possible step that might have been missed.

If not or don't have any time to help I greatly appreciate your
assistance & patients to date!!

Cheers Frédéric

Hi Frédéric. Thank you for applying both patches to confirm that it's
fixed the issue! If possible are you able to assist on how you applied
Beniamino's patches as I'd like to confirm as well?

Aron: How do we go about getting these patches applied into 16.04? Is
more conformation required?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2017-01-17 Thread Glenn Moloney
Thank you Sebastien for assigning this to Aron to resolve!! Reading one
of the URL's you supplied about the issue
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597839 ) where Beniamino
Galvani has already created a patch / fix. Not being a developer is
there any way we can test this patch that Beniamino created which may
assist Aron if he can't look at the issue in the short term? Even
directing to instructions on how to apply the patch? Was hoping to have
the issue resolved before the 16.04.2 release scheduled this week. I
realise this won't happen now but I'm sure most of us that have
experienced the issue would like to have this issue fix this sooner
rather than later. Cheers.

2017-01-06 Thread Glenn Moloney
>From a layman's point of view, I don't understand if a newer network
manager has fixed the issue in 16.10 (network-manager_1.2.4-0) which is
short term release and the one that isn't working in 16.04 is a long
term release I would have thought they would pushed this fix ASAP
considering it's importance of the release??? Will mentioning this Gnome
bugzilla help the situation? Just seems a strange situation to me. I
myself are unsure how to go with this... I'm happy to create an account
in bugzilla & mention this if it's going to help fix the bug.

anyone tried installing the 16.10 network manager in 16.04? Can it be

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out

2016-12-30 Thread Glenn Moloney
I just noticed today that on my Ubuntu 16.10 machine the problem doesn't
exist... Might try installing the pre-release of 16.04.2 which has
kernel 4.8 to see if that makes any difference. Or maybe installing the
network manager from 16.10.

2016-09-05 Thread Glenn Moloney
My show Username under Accounts isn't enabled or whether I tick / untick
the fault still persists. It's when you try to connect to an existing
hidden Wi-Fi network, the connect is always grayed out & never
selectable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1035590] Re: Kernel update on 10 Aug 2012 affects nm-applet signal strength

2012-10-18 Thread Glenn Moloney
G'day Chris,

I just done a fresh installed of 12.04.1 on a Toshiba Tecra S2 which had
the same issue. I enabled the precise-proposed, updated & rebooted which
resolved the issue. Lucky me I came across this info at the right time
:). Cheers.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Impacts all users of ipw2x00-based hardware, for the ipw2200 and ipw2100
drivers: this is fairly common Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless hardware present
in at least quite a few Thinkpad laptops.

  [Test Case]
On a system with an Intel PRO/Wireless card:
  1) Click the network indicator/applet.
  2) Observe the detected signal level.
  3) Try to connect to a secured wireless network.

Connection should be successful and ask for the wifi network password
  (if it's not already entered)

  Alternatively:
  1) Run the command 'nmcli dev wifi'.

Signal level should be low (usually visible as simply '0').

  [Regression Potential]
This change will modify the detection behavior for the wireless framework to
use for wireless cards. It needs to be properly tested with the affected
devices to make sure the signal level and encryption capabilities are properly
detected; but should also be tested with other devices to make sure signal
levels and encryption capabilities remain properly detected. A possible
regression scenario would be if a device that works with nl80211 (without the
patch) would get detected as needing wext when it is not implemented. This
would likely cause such a device to not be able to see wireless networks and
connect to them.

With 3.2.0-29-generic the nm-applet no longer reports the wireless
signal strength. If I reboot into 3.2.0-27-generic this problem does
  not occur.

I am using a Toshiba Equium M70-339 laptop, and my wireless card is
listed on the manufacturer's webpage as being an Intel® PRO/Wireless
2200 LAN Mini PCI adaptor integrated in Intel® Centrino™ mobile
technology. I've purged and reinstalled network-manager to no effect.
The only way for me to get the signal strength reported by the nm-
applet is to use an earlier kernel. iwconfig reports the correct
  signal quality.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 787475] Re: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] & [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz

2012-05-26 Thread Glenn Moloney
My daughter is running 12.04 64 bit & it picks up CD info no worries.
Unless it's to do with installing 12.04 from beta 2? Maybe create a
bootable USB of release 12.04 64bit, boot off the USB then insert a CD &
see what Rhythmbox does as a suggestion??? Just wish correct the fault
for 10.04.

Bug description:
  May 24th, 2011

On my two Ubuntu machines Rhythmbox is not fetching album tagging
information from MusicBrainz even though the information exists on the
MusicBrainz database. I checked with the picard program I had on the
machines. The CD lookup revealed the tagging information in picard.

  Here are my machines:

  Pentium D
  Memory 2.9 GiB

  9.10 [kernel 2.6.31-23-generic]
  Rythmbox 0.12.5

  libdiscid0 [Version: 0.1.0-1]
  libmusicbrainz4c2a [Version: 2.1.5-2ubuntu1]
  picard [Version: 0.11-2ubuntu3]

  ||

  Core 2 Duo
  Memory: 2.0 GiB

  10.04 [kernel 2.6.32-31-generic]
  Rythmbox 0.12.8

  libdiscid0 [Version: 0.2.2-1]
  picard [Version: 0.12.1-0ubuntu1]
  libmusicbrainz4c2a [Version: 2.1.5-4]

I will check in over the next few weeks to provide more information if
  necessary.

  Hope this helps,
  Thanks,
  Mike

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 943936] [NEW] Save As File Window Size is Too Big Vertically

2012-03-01 Thread Glenn Moloney
Public bug reported:

When selecting the save as file option within an application such as
Libre Office Writer or downloading a file using Firefox, the save as
file window size is too big vertically. Because of this you can't select
the save or cancel buttons as there off the screen. The only way I can
access the buttons is to use the Super key + S key, trag the window up,
press Super key + S key again to return & then I have access to either
the save or cancel buttons. The netbook I'm using is a Toshiba NB200
which has a screen resolution of 1024 x 600.

As you can imagine this can be quite annoying. I've attached a video of
the fault.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 629646] Re: Locations using bom.gov.au for forecast data no longer can no longer retrieve forecast data

2011-12-14 Thread Glenn Moloney
Just tested the new package for Lucid & the Melbourne forecast is now
correctly displayed (Had remove & reinstall applet for forecast to be
displayed) :). Thank you to all concerned who worked on the issue.
Moving forward my only wish is for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Unity to have
the option of installing this applet as the weather forecast is far more
informative than what's currently available with Unity.

  Original bug description:
  ---
  Issue Description
  ---

In relation to "weather-applet" and "libgweather" - over the past
several months, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has updated
its website to deliver a HTML forecast page for a number of locations
  around Australia.

Currently - the tag from "Locations.xml" is used within the
"weather-bom.c" to retrieve information from the appropriate
bom.gov.au URL which if successful is then parsed in the "bom_parse"
  function.

With the new HTML forecast pages for various locations however, the
data can not be successfully parsed and instead the message "Forecast
not currently available for this location." shows up on the Forecast
  tab of weather-applet.

  ---
  Area of Interest
  ---

Within "weather-bom.c" - the following line of code points to URLs
(depending on location) that now have HTML forecast data rather than
  plain text...

  url = g_strdup_printf ("http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?%s.txt";,
    loc->zone + 1);

  ---
  Suggested Fix
  ---

I suggest/propose that the URL above be changed to point to plain text
documents on the BOM FTP server (ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/)
with the appropriate weather station zone.

e.g. for Sydney (Zone IDN10064) - currently the code would point to:

  http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10064.txt

However this is now a HTML forecast, which causes the issue noted
above... by pointing the code to:

  ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/IDN10064.txt

The plain text forecast can be used without any modification to the
  other functions/aspects of the code.

  ---
  Patches - Untested!
  ---

Please see the attached "weather-bom.c" which includes the suggested
fix (i.e. patched version). Note it will need to be/should be tested
by someone who knows how to recompile the libgweather source.

Would love to test but running Lucid. Are you preparing the package for

2011-10-22 Thread Glenn Moloney
Excuse my noobness but I didn't think you could use this because Ubuntu 11.10
uses the Unity panel which doesn't have / can't add the weather applet. I
thought you could only test it with the traditional gnome panel.
David could you please advise how you tested libgweather?
