[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1771757] [NEW] Ubuntu doesn't detect device on USB 3.1 Gen 2 port

2018-05-17 Thread Hairong Zhu
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu does't detect the device when I plug a USB Flash drive onto the USB 3.1
Gen 2 port on my motherboard. I can't find the device in lsusb output. If I
reboot the system with the drive plugged, I can mount the drive in file
manager. If I unplug and plug it again, Ubuntu doesn't detect the device.
My motherboard is ASUS ROG STRIX B360-G. Tried stock bionic and latest
v4.16/v4.17 mainline kernels.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752938] Re: Upgrading Ubuntu 18.04 disables GPU hardware acceleration

2018-04-28 Thread Hairong Zhu
The original bug I reported was a duplicate of bug #1751414. It has been
fixed. Lately I've upgraded from 17.10 to 18.08 for my laptop. I don't have
this issue. My laptop has Intel GPU though.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1583801] Re: No sound via headphones (headset) when Ubuntu boots with them plugged in

2018-01-16 Thread Hairong Zhu
It turns out I run into another problem. Pluseaudio doesn't prefer
headphone in some cases, have to select headphone manually for once to
fix it. Anyway the bug doesn't affect kernel v4.15.

uhh, well. I don't have this problem with kernel v4.14. After I upgrade

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1583801] Re: No sound via headphones (headset) when Ubuntu boots with them plugged in

2017-12-19 Thread Hairong Zhu
I have this problem on Dell Inspiron 7370(Realtek ALC3254) when using
Xubuntu 17.10(4.13 kernel). After upgrading to Ubuntu mainline kernel
4.14, the problem seems gone.

No sound via headphones (headset) when Ubuntu boots with them plugged
  in

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The bug is twofold, first when computer boots if the headset
(headphones with built-in mic, one audio jack) is plugged in, then
there is no sound (via headphones or otherwise). If you plug
headphones out and back in, then it usually works as expected.

The second scenario is the same, except that plugging out and back in
again doesn't help. In that case, I just restart the laptop, then plug
them back in again and it works.

  In all cases, microphone works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1492208] Re: No notification sound in thunderbird and lightning

2015-12-22 Thread Hairong Zhu
I'm using Xubuntu 14.04. I solves the problem by setting
/Net/EnableInputFeedbackSounds and /Net/EnableInputFeedbackSounds to true. By
default their values are false. You can do this in setting manager or in
terminal.
xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Net/EnableEventSounds -s true
xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Net/EnableInputFeedbackSounds -s true
I'm not sure if this applies to other Ubuntu flavours.
