[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1883516] Re: display is freezing randomly

2020-06-18 Thread Hermann Gregor
Dear Daniel,

thank you for your assistance, unfortunately I cannot run anything when the
display freezes. The system seems to run, since sound is playing, but the
display does not update at all. I have to make a hard reset by pushing the
power button for a while to get the system running again.
However, it did not happen for a while now. I try to keep my system up to date,
so maybe a kernel patch has fixed the issue. I will let you know if it happens
again and try to disable shell extensions then.

Best Regards,
Gregor

Bug description:
  [Impact]
When entering the lock-screen mode, gnome-shell disables all the extensions.
It can happen that under certain conditions ubuntu-dock re-enables itself,
causing the ubuntu-dock to appear in the lock-screen, exposing sensitive
information. One possible way to reproduce this is to enable dash-to-dock and
ubuntu-dock at the same time.

  [Test Case]
  1. Make sure ubuntu-dock is enabled
  2. Enable dash-to-dock too
  3. Lock the screen
  4. Make sure the dock does not appear on the lock screen
  5. Make sure there is no warning is the journal

  [Possible Regressions]
Even if it's something we don't really support please make sure that you can
use dash-to-dock without uninstalling ubuntu-dock.

  [Original Bug]

After an update from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 the dock is aviable on the
lockscreen after user login.
I did not configure this knowingly. Also i can start every application which
is available on the dock.
Settings, virtual box, visualstudio code and so on.

After the update to 18.04 i just configure the screen frequency to
144Hz and the night mode on. And attach the dock on bottom.

I later undid these customizations back to configuration before, but
the dock is stil aviable on lockscreen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573959] Re: On-screen text disappears after suspend

2018-04-15 Thread Mike Hermann
I have the same issue.
$ uname -a
Linux mh-lt-asus 4.4.0-116-generic #140-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 12 21:23:04 UTC 2018

Title:
  On-screen text disappears after suspend

Status in linux-lts-xenial package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After resuming from a suspend, almost all text on screen is not
visible. This includes menu items, text in all three boxes (list of
folders, list of e-mails, e-mail body) in Thunderbird (with the
curious exception of "ffl" in the File menu), top menu in Chromium
(but not the menu obtained by pressing the hamburger button), and the
menus produced by clicking items in the system tray. Also, the apport
dialog had no text except for a few capital letters.

WORKAROUND / 'FIX' (added on March 9, 2017)
Several people have mentioned upgrading to kernel 4.8 or higher solves the
issue. As per #81, you can easily install kernel 4.8 (if you're on Ubuntu
16.04, that is) by running

  sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-16.04

If you are still experiencing this issue after upgrading to kernel
4.8, please share your system details in the comments.

  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  * initctl restart unity-panel-service restarts the panel, but the text is
still missing
  * suspend and resume does not fix the issue
  * Logging out fixes the issue
  * Other affected applications:
  ** Chromium file select dialog
  ** Terminal (entire window)
  ** ttys 1-6 (Ctrl+Alt+F1, etc.)
  ** Document viewer (menus)
  ** Software Updater
  ** Rhythmbox
** The dialog that appears when you take a screenshot with Ctrl+Alt+PrtSc
  ** ubuntu-bug
  ** Nautilus
** LibreOffice Calc (spreadsheet text contents)
  ** Firefox
  * Unity dash is not affected.
  * Skype is not affected.
  * Mousing over a button in a dialog correctly shows the text.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1540157] Re: Xenial: Mouse pointer disappears after release upgrade

2016-05-09 Thread Hermann Kleier
I have observed the same issue after upgrading from Xubuntu 15.10 to
Xubuntu 16.04. Just as fabiomarconi described the cursor reappeared
after clicking the logout-button. I use real hardware, no
virtualization.

Title:
Xenial: Mouse pointer disappears after release upgrade

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After release upgrade from Wily to Xenial, the mouse pointer is
  invisible.

  Reproduce:
  – Install Ubuntu Wily Werewolf desktop from the official Live CD.
  – Upgrade to Xenial Xerus with „do-release-upgrade -d”.

Only had a chance to test it on KVM virtual machine, but it happened every
time I upgraded a virtual machine to Xenial.
Also, only tested via Wily -> Xenial upgrade, haven't tried Trusty -> Xenial.

Nature Xenial install from the Xenial Live CD daily build right away
doesn't have this issue, so I assume something goes wrong during the
  upgrade process.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1503159] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT

2015-11-16 Thread Nikolas Hermann
This ssems to be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/1510970 (see XorgLogOld.txt).

If so, disabling sna should be a workaround for now:

sudo bash -c 'cat < /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
 Identifier "Card0"
 Driver "Intel"
 Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection
EOF'

Reboot afterwards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1505756] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT

2015-11-16 Thread Nikolas Hermann
This ssems to be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/1510970 (see XorgLogOld.txt).

If so, disabling sna should be a workaround for now:

sudo bash -c 'cat < /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
 Identifier "Card0"
 Driver "Intel"
 Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection
EOF'

Reboot afterwards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 457060] Re: Network-manager ignores CA-certificates

2012-07-02 Thread Hermann Lorenz
Although the bug is marked as "fixed", I still have an similar problem
with Ubuntu 12.04.

I connect to a WPA/WPA2 network via EAP-TTLS and PAP. Like Albert
Darenberg I can choose none, the correct or an wrong certificate.
Independ of the chosen certificate I can connect and can't find any
hints in "cat /var/log/syslog | grep etwork" that the certificate is
accepted or invalid.

Is it ok, that I continue this bug or shoudl I create a new one?

  Network-manager ignores CA-certificates

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

When connecting to a WPA2-Enterprise wifi network (MSCHAPv2 & PEAP)
you can choose a wrong CA-certificate and network-manager will still
connect. I've tried this with several WPA2 networks and it was always
possible to choose a wrong certificate, making man-in-the-middle
  attacks an option.
