2017-10-29 Thread Ivan Frederiks
This bug seems to be fixed in Xenial proposed package. My system
reported about saned crashes (caused by assertion failure described in
this bug) on every boot. Then I installed updated package and I do not
observe any sane related crashes anymore.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
A bug in the SANE Kodak driver can cause a SANE device scan to crash the
client that is using it (e.g. colord, simple-scan).

  [Test Case]
  1. Run a SANE client on a system that is failing Avahi scans (exact cause not
determined).

  Expected result:
  Client works without crashing.

  Observed result:
  Client crashes.

  [Regression Potential]
Code fix could cause a change in behaviour of successful Avahi scans for
Kodak devices, though the fix matches the Avahi documentation for correct usage.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
As of Firefox version 36, the -remote commandline parameter was dropped.
This parameter is used in versions of exo prior to 0.10.3. Because of this,
opening any URLs via exo-open will cause a new firefox window to launch at the
home screen.

As reported, this affects the terminal, ubuntu-bug, xchat, and
  numerous other applications.

  [Test Case]
  1. Set Firefox as the default web browser in "Preferred Applications".
  2. From a terminal, type the following:

  exo-open "http://www.xfce.org";

  Expected: Firefox opens at http://www.xfce.org
Actual: Firefox opens at the home page.

  [Regression Potential]
No regressions by this change. This fixes the application call to correctly
open URLs.

  [Original Report]
When I click a link from an email it does not work any more.

Instead of opening the link in a new tab, Firefox opens a new empty
window and does not follow the link.

If I change the default browser for my desktop from Firefox to Chrome,
then Chrome can open the link fine.

I have started seeing this today since firefox was upgraded from v35
  to 36.

My email client is Mozilla thunderbird at the latest stable version.

2012-05-04 Thread Ivan Frederiks
That's ... nice.
xscreensaver's author once said that he won't ever implement features I listed
in bug description. Gnome developers decided to destroy their implementation.
Sometimes innovation is a thing to hate.
I can suggest Ubuntu developers to ship old version of gnome-screensaver with
different name, but it's way to nowhere.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 994612] Re: gnome-screensaver-preferences missing

2012-05-04 Thread Ivan Frederiks
@Marc Deslauriers
There was a tool called gnome-screensaver-preferences that allowed to configure
several gnome-screensaver parameters:
* choose screensaver
* tune screensaver
* set screensaver timeout
* choose whether to lock system or not
Screenshot:
http://www.insidesocal.com/click/2009_1209_gnome_screensaver_preferences.png

This tool was part of gnome-screensaver package and it was there at
least untill Natty. Now it's missing. I think that it's wrong.

Title:
TERM unconditionally set to "xterm", regardless of config

Status in Gnome Virtual Terminal Emulator:
  New
Status in XFCE4 Terminal Emulator:
  Unknown
Status in “vte” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “xfce4-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xfce4-terminal

  Xubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal

  xfce4-terminal 0.4.7-0ubuntu1
  libvte9 0.27.90

I wish to enable 256-color support in apps running under
xfce4-terminal; but even though I've set TERM to this value in the
config (and verified it in .config/Terminal/terminalrc), the TERM
variable winds up having the value "xterm".

Upon digging a little further, xfce4-terminal correctly sets the TERM
variable in the environment vector that it then passes through to vte
via vte_terminal_command_full (this takes place within the
  terminal_screen_launch_child function found in terminal/terminal-
  screen.c). However, vte_terminal_fork_command_full copies everything
from that vector _except_ the TERM variable, unconditionally replacing
that with a value that should be set by calling vte_pty_set_term (this
happens in src/pty.c:__vte_pty_merge_environ(), which is called by
(and gets the TERM value from) src/pty.c:__vte_pty_spawn, which in
turn is called by src/vte.c:vte_terminal_fork_command_full() ).
xfce4-terminal doesn't appear to ever call that function anywhere, and
thus vte defaults to "xterm". So the appropriate fix would seem to be
to make xfce4-terminal call that function to register the correct TERM
  value.

[SecurityRoadmap] Locked screen shows the desktop

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 9.04

When I lock the screen and arrives the next day, when I touch the
keyboard and wakes the screen to enter my password an image of the
desktop is shown under a very short period of time before the password
  prompt is shown.

If someone has a camera it's possible to take a photo of the screen of
how it looked just before it was locked.

I'm using dual screen and a Nvidia built in driver. The image is shown
in the laptop monitor, maybe on the extra screen that's cloned (hard
to see because it's syncing to long to see).

Please let me know if you need more information.
