[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1762726] Re: Context menu does not show on passwords fields

2019-01-07 Thread Jawtheshark
Hello, I confirm that my current 18.04 installation, with Firefox 64.0,
the issue is gone.

Title:
Context menu does not show on passwords fields

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
As many people I use a password manager in order to manage my logins.
For that I simply copy/paste the username and password in the
respective fields from another application. Given some webpages block
this by JavaScript, I have the following about:config preference:

  dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled=false

This mostly as an information, because it doesn't seem to affect the
  problem.

Take a login page (I tried AliExpress - https://login.aliexpress.com/), and
right click in the username field. A context menu is shown, containing
-amongst others- "Paste".
Click right in the password field, and the context menu is not shown. I
would expect it to be shown.

  Using Ctrl-V does work.

I tried a recreated profile in order to exclude profile-based issues.
  The same happens.

This does not happen on Ubuntu 16.04LTS
  (59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.3) with equivalent version Firefox
  (59.0.2)

I am not 100% sure this is a firefox issue. Perhaps this is Gnome
related, because I use the default interface on each installation:
  Unity on 16.04LTS and Gnome3 on 18.04LTS.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768448] Re: Don't use snaps for default system packages

2018-05-02 Thread Jawtheshark
I see. Well, then I will have to look for another distribution.

I would strongly suggest that normal packages be managed system wide
with a normal package manager.

Don't use snaps for default system packages

Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
In a fresh install, standard applications like gnome-calculator and
gnome-system-monitor are installed as snaps. This results in a plethora of
mounted loopback devices for basically nothing. Never mind the slow
application startup times (seconds for gnome-system-monitor on a Ryzen 1700
with 32GB RAM and a Samsung EVO 960 on an M.2 interface).
Removing the snaps and going back to deb packages, the performance issues go
away.

I can understand using snaps for third-party commercial software, but
for the base system, the default debian package manager has served us
well. I consider pushing snaps for default gnome applications a bug,
  and mismanagement of the system.

This does not happen on an upgraded Ubuntu (from 16.04LTS). Snap is
there, with no applications installed. That's how the default should
  be.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 878198] Re: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d

2012-03-18 Thread Jawtheshark
I agree with Philip-hoflack... Same thing with Unity 3D (checked, I have
compiz running not metacity). It's next to impossible to resize
windows. Workarounds are fine and dandy, but if I give 12.04 LTS to my
mother this isn't going to fly. (She's running 10.04 LTS, and I'm
really really reluctant to move her to the new LTS)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 937937] Re: rhythmbox-metadata crashed with SIGSEGV in _start()

2012-03-17 Thread Jawtheshark
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 820601 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820601

The original poster described two problems here. The crash (which may,
or may not be a duplicate of #820601), which I will not judge. However,
he also reported another poblem, namely that Rhythmbox duplicates
entries in .local/share/ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One and
~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu. One is a symbolic link to the
other.

I never had a Rhythmbox crash, and I have these duplicates. I installed
a 12.04 machine from scratch, activated my Ubuntu One account and got my
purchased songs. Result: all purchased songs are duplicated in the
database.
