[nvidia+amdgpu] System sometimes starts with a black screen with

Bug description:
I've recently installed Ubuntu on a laptop that has a Ryzen APU (with
Vega 8 integrated graphics) and a Nvidia dedicated GPU. The first
issue that this kind of setup gives on a fresh install is that that
PRIME render offloading doesn't work, I presume that Ubuntu currently
sets up hybrid graphics for laptop with Intel+Nvidia, not AMD+Nvidia
but that's another separate issue. As a workaround I created an Xorg
configuration (attached in this report) that sets up both GPUs (with
the appropiate BusIDs), after such configuration is applied the system
boots fine with AMD integrated graphics being used and the ability to
switch to Nvidia with PRIME render off-loading.

The problem comes when I try to use the computer the next day, then it
gives me a black screen without having the ability to switch to a tty,
the boot log doesn't throw any errors I just see a black screen after
Xorg tries to start. I can make it work again by entering in recovery
mode, logging into a root console and switching between "nvidia" and
"on-demand" modes using prime-select (I set it up to "on-demand"
  profile after installing Ubuntu).

For the moment I cannot provide any relevant logs since it's now
working fine (and I don't remember seeing any errors on Xorg logs),
also I don't really know where to look for this kind of issues.

  My system information:
-CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3550H with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx
-GPU: Nvidia GTX 1650 Mobile (TU117M) (Using Nvidia binary driver version
440.64 from https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa)
  -RAM: 8 GB
-Kubuntu 20.04 LTS (Using KDE Plasma 5.18.4)
  -Xorg 1.20.8-2ubuntu2

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1823793] Re: [regression] Font scaling not working on gnome startup

Version 3.32.0-1ubuntu2, released today, has fixed the issue for me.

Title:
[regression] Font scaling not working on gnome startup

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The font text scaling setting is not being loaded on gnome startup. I
have font text scaling set to 1.25. After updating mutter to package
version 3.32.0-1ubuntu1 the text scaling setting is not loaded any
more when starting gnome. Steps to reproduce the issue:

  1) Set your font scaling factor to something other than the default
'1'. This can be set, for example, either by using "Gnome tweaks" or
  with gsettings:

  settings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.25

  2) You'll see that the top bar text gets larger.
  3) Log out and log in. You'll see that the top bar text and text in general
has been reset to the default '1'. The setting is still set to '1.25', but
visually it's '1'.

If you set the value to something else, it gets applied correctly,
  until you log out.

This worked as expected on package version 3.32.0-1. I wonder if this patch
listed in the CHANGELOG could have somehow created this side effect:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1782498] [NEW] Se tilda pantalla

2018-07-18 Thread Juan Pablo Montiel
Public bug reported:

Hola amigos!

habitantes y uso Ubunto hace aproximadamente unos 10 años. Los quiero
mucho y aprecio mucho lo que hacen por nosotros como usuarios. GRACIAS

Title:
Backport for tab names being unreadable in gtk3 not working in 16.04

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm using Libreoffice 5.2.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial1 from the
libreoffice/libreoffice-5-2 PPA under Ubuntu 16.04. I'm suffering bug
#1527053 in which tab names are not readable in GTK3. The problem is
that ever though the fix has been backported [1] to the xenial ppa
package fix is not working for me.

I've built the latest master from GIT
(85101d2a4da95f6c8a8e51065985409b285d2ebd) and tab names are readable
in that version. I attach two screenshots: 1) Using the latest version
from master, where tabs are readable. 2) Using
5.2.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial1 where tabs are not readable.

  Thank you.

2014-05-23 Thread Juan Pablo Lauriente
** Description changed:

- Without opening Firefox, the computer works perfectly, but when you open
- and use Firefox starts the first freeze, and the whole system starts to

- says there is an open process that I must close. In "No Add-ons mode"
- the same problem happens.
+ Important Update: The problem is solved when I erased .mozilla folder
+ (locate in /home) and reopen firefox to recreate the folder '.mozilla'.
+ Maybe a corrupt file or bad writing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-05-16 Thread Juan Pablo Rinaldi
The issue is back. Ubuntu told me there were updates for my system, so I
installed them, and now the issue has returned.

I'm pretty sure what happened was that Ubuntu upgraded the old xserver-
xorg-video-intel package to the most recent version.

How can I prevent Ubuntu from trying to upgrade that package every time?

Install quantal: The system should boot fine
Install the proprietary fglrx package and reboot: The X server crashes on
startup

  [Regression Potential]

   * This solution does not need any change on the intel driver (as a previous
workaround needed).
   * No regressions have been reported so far using this most recent fglrx
upstream, by the people affected by this bug

  ==

After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10
(fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was
present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards
(such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my
intel Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the
  low graphics mode is activated.

WORKAROUND: Follow carefully the instructions here:
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND

As per Nick Andrik, this is a version regression of xserver-xorg-
video-intel from 2.20.2 (working and in below mentioned PPA) and
  2.20.3. The regression commit is
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-
  intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 .

Upstream fglrx has published a new version (> 13.1 ) of the driver
which seems to solve this issue. No need to revert the commit in the
  Intel driver any more.

  ATTENTION:
  1. If you choose the integrated GPU (via Catalyst or via amdconfig --px-igpu)
and your X server crashes on startup, then your are probably affected by this
bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1088220

  2. If your system includes an old ATI GPU card (Radeon HD 2x00 3x00 4x00)
which is not supported any more by fglrx drivers, then probably you suffer from
this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040
  Subscribe and comment there please.

If the X server loads (so you see no low graphics mode window) but you get no
menu bars, window decorations, etc, then press Ctrl+Shift+T to open a terminal,
write in there:
  unity --replace &
and post a comment with the result.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-05-13 Thread Juan Pablo Rinaldi
Alright, I can confirm the fix works. According to the battery
indicator, the battery life seems to have almost doubled now, but I'll
have to test that to be sure.

Great work guys! I'm really grateful.

Do I still have to install the package? If so, how?

@Sydoruk: I didn't quite understand the fix. Do I just have to install
the proprietary driver from ATI? What do you mean by "If install
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb X server crashes"?

  1. From the "Help" menu, choose "About".

  What you see:
  * "Firefox version 3.5.2"
  * "Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0"

  What's wrong with this:
  * "canonical" is not capitalized.
  * There's no such thing as "Ubuntu canonical".
  * It uses a hyphen for a non-hyphen role.
  * It's not clear what, exactly, "1.0" refers to in contrast with the "3.5.2",
"7.0.1", or whatever.

  What you should see:
  * "Firefox version 3.5.2", "Firefox version 7.0.1", etc
  * "Canonical customizations for Ubuntu v1.0" or similar.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

The Firefox 4 browser in 11.04 doesn't use Unitys scrollbars (the light ones
with the up/down button showing as soon as you move the mouse pointer over it).
  Instead, it uses standard scrollbars.

I believe this is an inconsistency in the UI, as other programs (e.g.
  Nautilus) show them correctly.

Searching for any text causes Firefox 13.0.1 to crash on Ubuntu 12.04

  Test case:

  1. Hit ALT to bring up the HUD search box
  2. Type one or more words into the textbox.

  Expected result:

  1. HUD appears ready to search
  2. Results appear depending on the search term.

  What actually happens:

  1. HUD appears ready to search

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 933550] Re: crashes after clicking on 'copy CD/DVD' again

2012-04-18 Thread Juan Pablo
Its seriously getting on my nerves. I've been copying a whole load of
old disks to my hard drive so i could get rid of them - they're taking
too much room.

It works for the first time, but it shuts down after clicking Copy
CD/DVD for the next CD, no messages shown as the bug description says.

Its very annoying, imagine restarting Brasero a million times, look for
the folder where the ISO should be changed AND change the image format.

On top of that, for some weird reason, Brasero changes the current
folder to my home folder when I choose a different format, which is very
annoying.

Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken

Status in Nautilus:
  New
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “nautilus” source package in Oneiric:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This bug is similar to: #857710 File selection by typing is buggy
  sometimes

  Description: Ubuntu 11.10
  Release: 11.10

  nautilus:
    Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1
    Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1

However the person that was assigned to that bug told me to file a new one
because supposedly it is a different bug.
I installed the nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 package from ubuntu proposed and
all packages related and I still experience the following behavior:

  Expected behavior:

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing name of folder/file.
  - Nautilus selects folders/file matching as you type (one file at a time
matching what is in the search/typeahead box).
  - Type backspace
  - Deletes the last character typed in search/typeahead box

  Actual Behavior

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing the name of a folder/file.
  - Sometimes the search box opens and sometimes it does not. (BUG)
  - If it does open, after a letter or two the search box disappears. (BUG)
  - If you change folders sometimes the box reappears as you start typing other
times it disappears. (BUG)
  - If the box re-appears typing in Back-space does not delete the text present
in the box, instead it navigates backwards (Unexpected behavior)
  - If it disappears It does not re-appear until you close and re-open
nautilus. (BUG)

This happens in ALL views (Icon, List, Compact) with or without status
bar enabled (Some suggested that the status bar fixes this, it does
  not).

The newly released packages (nautilus* 3.2.1) DO NOT fix this bug.

I am on Ubuntu 11.10 64Bit Using Gnome 3.2 and Gnome Shell.
Upgraded to this ubuntu since 10.04
