  Fix Released

Bug description:

goes away.
  I encountered this issue on another system with the direct download from

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1160650] Re: cannot detect IPv6 scanner

2019-01-24 Thread Kevin Otte
At some point along the line this bug has been fixed:

kjotte@mystic:/tmp/sane-backends-1.0.27/backend$ grep -n gethostbyname pixma*
kjotte@mystic:/tmp/sane-backends-1.0.27/backend$ grep -n getaddrinfo pixma*
pixma_bjnp.c:849:  if (getaddrinfo(host , service, NULL, &results) == 0)
pixma_bjnp.c:1714:  result = getaddrinfo (host, port, &hints, &res );

Tested with same scanner in IPv6 only mode. Discovery and scanning are
working correctly.

Manual specification with pixma.conf of a device with record also appears
succesful:
$ scanimage -L
device `pixma:MX870_gonzo' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX870 multi-function
peripheral

Title:
  cannot detect IPv6 scanner

Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  A network scanner running only in IPv6 mode cannot be detected by
  SANE.

  $ avahi-browse -av
  Server version: avahi 0.6.31; Host name: scooter.local
  E Ifce Prot Name  Type
 Domain
  ...
  +  wlan0 IPv6 Canon MX870 series _3E420E3BFE0D  _scanner._tcp
   local

  $ scanimage -L
  scanimage: no SANE devices found

  However, if the device is configured for IPv4, it is visiable to SANE:

  $ avahi-browse -av
  Server version: avahi 0.6.31; Host name: scooter.local
  E Ifce Prot Name  Type
 Domain
  ...
  +  wlan0 IPv4 Canon MX870 series _3E420E3BFE0D  _scanner._tcp
   local

  $ scanimage -L
  device `pixma:MX870_gonzo' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX870 multi-function
peripheral

  The device in question can only operate in one mode or the other, not
  dual-stack. We would prefer to use IPv6 wherever possible in our
  environment, so this is a blocker.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1707966] [NEW] Inconsistent sample name used for x11-bell

2017-08-01 Thread Kevin Otte
Public bug reported:

A startup script is being patched to load module-x11-bell with a given
sample name:

debian/patches/0006-load-module-x11-bell.patch:+@PACTL_BINARY@ load-
module module-x11-bell "display=$DISPLAY" "sample=bell.ogg" > /dev/null

yet in the default example:
src/daemon/default.pa.in:#load-sample-lazy x11-bell
/usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/bell.oga

As this is an example, no such sample gets loaded, but the patched
script does not use either of the desired sample name or the matching
file extension.

I recommend updating the script to load the module using
"sample=x11-bell" to be consistent with upstream and the fact that the
sample name is not specific to a given format.

This was discovered while trying to figure out how to set the bell sound
on XFCE.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1547702] Re: iputils-ping does not support IPv6 in ping command

2017-01-30 Thread Kevin Otte
So it looks like this was merged into 16.10 (3:20150815-2ubuntu3 vs
3:20121221-4ubuntu1.1 per packages.ubuntu.com). Should this be closed
out as Fix Released?

Title:
  iputils-ping does not support IPv6 in ping command

Status in iputils package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in iputils package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  The iputils package included in Ubuntu is from 2012. There have been
  several releases since then and should be updated. Specifically, the
  iputils-ping package needs to be updated to support the unified ping
  binary.

  Specific commit:

https://github.com/iputils/iputils/commit/ebad35fee3de851b809c7b72ccc654a72b6af61d

  Last release:
  https://github.com/iputils/iputils/releases/tag/s20150815

  Given 16.04 is a LTS, it would be extremely bad for Ubuntu to miss this
updated.
  Competitively, Fedora 24 will be including it as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1002454] Re: IPv4 DNS preferred over IPv6 ones

2016-10-11 Thread Kevin Otte
There was a response to the upstream bug indicating the method I used in
my patch would be insufficient. I don't have the skill to whip it into
shape to get it accepted, sadly. If someone who is a developer could
look at the bug in the GNOME bugtracker and rework the patch a bit they
will probably take it.

  IPv4 DNS preferred over IPv6 ones

Status in NetworkManager:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  The Network Manager always prefers IPv4 DNS over IPv6 ones. The issue
  occurs both when DNSs are statically configured and when they're
  acquired via DHCPv4/DHCPv6.

  Network Manager puts IPv4 DNSs before IPv6 ones in the /var/run/nm-
  dns-dnsmasq.conf so Dnsmasq resolves names using IPv4 DNSs before
  using IPv6 ones.

  If I disable Dnsmasq, DNS servers are put in the wrong way in
  /etc/resolv.conf file.

  The system shoud prefer IPv6 DNSs in any case.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1160650] Re: cannot detect IPv6 scanner

2014-08-02 Thread Kevin Otte
I have located the problem of specifying the scanner directly in the
backend config.

kjotte@mystic:/tmp$ apt-get source sane-backends
...
kjotte@mystic:/tmp/sane-backends-1.0.23/backend$ grep -n gethostbyname pixma*
pixma_bjnp.c:1145:  result = gethostbyname (hostname);

This will need to be rewritten to use getaddrinfo().

  $ scanimage -L

  However, if the device is configured for IPv4, it is visiable to SANE:

  $ avahi-browse -av

  $ scanimage -L
  device `pixma:MX870_gonzo' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX870 multi-function

  The device in question can only operate in one mode or the other, not
  dual-stack. We would prefer to use IPv6 wherever possible in our
  environment, so this is a blocker.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1160650] Re: cannot detect IPv6 scanner

2014-08-02 Thread Kevin Otte
Note: Initial bug report was made under 12.10, but the following retest
performed under 14.04.1.

We seem to have a couple of different problems, both indicating a lack
of IPv6 support.

1) Scanner detection over the network is performed with BJNP, and the
specification seems to be tied to using IPv4 broadcast.
2) Manual specification of the scanner in the backend configuration is
unsuccessful:

kjotte@daedalus:~$ cat /etc/sane.d/pixma.conf
# pixma.conf configuration for the sane pixma backend
#
# define URI's of scanners (one per line)
# This is only used for network scanners.
# normally scanners will be detected by sending a broadcast
# if this does not work under your OS, or if the scanners
# are on a different subnet, configure your scanners URI here
#
# method must be bjnp
# port number can normally be left out, port 8612 is used as default
# Example:
# bjnp://myscanner.my.domain:8612
# bjnp://printer-1.pheasant.org
#
bjnp://gonzo.mibloving.net

kjotte@daedalus:~$ scanimage -L
[pixma] Cannot resolve hostname: gonzo.mibloving.net

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation

Title:
  cannot detect IPv6 scanner

Status in “sane-backends” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  A network scanner running only in IPv6 mode cannot be detected by
  SANE.

  $ avahi-browse -av
  Server version: avahi 0.6.31; Host name: scooter.local
  E Ifce Prot Name  Type
 Domain
  ...
  +  wlan0 IPv6 Canon MX870 series _3E420E3BFE0D  _scanner._tcp
   local

  $ scanimage -L
  scanimage: no SANE devices found

  However, if the device is configured for IPv4, it is visiable to SANE:

  $ avahi-browse -av
  Server version: avahi 0.6.31; Host name: scooter.local
  E Ifce Prot Name  Type
 Domain
  ...
  +  wlan0 IPv4 Canon MX870 series _3E420E3BFE0D  _scanner._tcp
   local

  $ scanimage -L
  device `pixma:MX870_gonzo' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX870 multi-function
peripheral

  The device in question can only operate in one mode or the other, not
  dual-stack. We would prefer to use IPv6 wherever possible in our
  environment, so this is a blocker.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1327477] [NEW] dnsmasq not using all DHCPv6 provided nameservers

2014-06-06 Thread Kevin Otte
Public bug reported:

When receiving nameservers from a DHCPv6 server, NetworkManager reports
receiving both my primary and secondary servers, but only advises
dnsmasq about the secondary.

not configured to recurse over IPv6, resulting in an inability to
resolve anything.
