[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705943] [NEW] No sound on 17.04 [System Product Name, Realtek ALC887-VD, Green Line Out, Rear]

2017-07-23 Thread Kyle Enger
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 16.10 to 17.04 using Software Updater on 2017-07-22. The
upgrade is working well except for almost complete lack of sound; the
only time I've heard sound is with the 1st set (but not 2nd set) of test
tones during the ubuntu-bug submission process for this bug. It is not a
hardware issue since my machine is a dual boot with Windows 10 and sound
works on Windows. pavucontrol says I have "Built-in Audio Digital Stereo
(IEC958)" and indicates the system is not muted and shows a visual
indicator of sound being played when I play a test sound. aplay -l gives
the following:

 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 0: ALC887-VD Analog [ALC887-VD

  Subdevices: 1/1

card 2: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 1: ALC887-VD Digital [ALC887-VD
Digital]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Thank you for your help, and I'll be happy to provide further info as
needed.
