In my case, if I use the 'Open With Other Application' option (also if I
select the same app of the 'Open With App' option), it works.

Still not working with the double-click or with 'Open With App' option.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1721704] [NEW] Printer settings stuck on loading drivers database

2017-10-06 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Public bug reported:

1) Description: Ubuntu Artful Aardvark (development branch)
   Release: 17.10
2) ubuntu-settings:
   Installed: 17.10.17
   Candidate: 17.10.17
3) The printer configuration goes fine and I can print
4) Printer settings stuck on loading drivers database and finally no drivers
list available. Only 'cancel' button active.

Note: I'm trying to configure a Brother HL-2030 connected to Network
through a FritzBox 7940 router. The printer works fine both on Fedora
and macOS X systems. I opened 'System Settings', then select 'Devices' >
'Printers' > 'Add a Printer'. I entered the router address and the
window shows me correctly a 'JetDirect-Printer' on 192.168.178.1. I
selected the printer and pressed the 'Add' button, a window 'Select
Printer Driver' appears and stuck with 'Loading drivers database...'.
After about 2 minutes, stopped loading and remains blank. No drivers
selection is available and I can only push the 'Cancel' button.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1234252] Re: [MacBookPro8, 1, CS4206] Left speaker low volume and absence of low freqs

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu 13.04 fresh install or fully updated - no difference.
While listening music through internal speakers I noticed that left speaker
sounds differently from the right one. I would describe left speaker's sound as
those from the headphones lying on the table: low volume level and mostly high
frequences are heard.
  1) Trying to check mixer levels in alsamixer, muting/unmuting, balance
channels etc didnt help.
  2) In alsamixer there is a mixer item called "Bass Speaker". If I mute it,
other playback items (including Master) are muted too. If I make its level to
0, then sound from both speakers become identical: low volume and without bass
frequences. Level of the Bass Speaker resets if I adjust volume level from
Unity volume control tool.
  3) Trying to set model parameter for intel_hda module to "mbp55" or "imac27"
didnt help.
  4) Sound from headphones is perfectly ok.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1648538] [NEW] Custom keyboard shortcuts not work

2016-12-08 Thread Luca Ciavatta
Public bug reported:

1) Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
   Release: 16.04

2) ubuntu-settings:
   Installed: 15.10.8
   Candidate: 15.10.8
   Version table:

   500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64
Packages
   500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main i386 Packages
   100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I made some custom keyboard shortcuts under All Settings > Keyboard >
Shortcuts
   In particular, I made these:
   CTRL+SHIFT+S - Custom screenshot - gnome-screenshot -f
"$HOME/Pictures/Screenshots/$(date +%F_%H:%M:%S).png"
   CTRL+SHIFT+A - Custom screenshot area - gnome-screenshot -a -f
"$HOME/Pictures/Screenshots/$(date +%F_%H:%M:%S).png"
   CTRL+SHIFT+W - Custom screenshot window - gnome-screenshot -w -f
"$HOME/Pictures/Screenshots/$(date +%F_%H:%M:%S).png"

I expected the shortcuts working when I press the right keys
combination.

4) Custom keyboard shortcuts not work.

The shortcuts worked only one time and after never worked. If I use
the commands directly in a terminal window, the commands work fine.

** Affects: ubuntu-settings (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

** Package changed: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-settings

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1517046] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 16.04 as a VMWare Fusion guest

2015-11-17 Thread Luca Ciavatta
I found a workaround.
In a terminal:
xrandr --newmode "1920x1080" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120
-hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode Virtual1 1920x1080
xrandr --output Virtual1 --mode 1920x1080

And the display is set to the correct resolution and all works fine.
The problem is when I restart the system, I have an error window with:

Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors
none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes:
CRTC 63: Trying modes for . with output at 1920x1080@60hz (pass 0)

CRTC 63: Trying modes for 800x600@60hz with output at 1920x1080@60hz (pass 1)

and the monitor starts with 800x600 resolution.

So, I did again the commands of above and the resolution go fine to
1920x1080.

On graphical login, Network Manager window gets in the way

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
New in 13.04, on a laptop with wifi (in addition to being wired), when
the login gui comes up on boot-up, I can no longer simply type in my
  password to log in.

This is because a wifi authentication window pops up, asking for a
password for my wifi connection. Worse, it does not let me get the
focus back to the log in screen or anywhere else: I have to explicitly
  click "cancel ".

After I log in, the wifi password is not needed, since the Manager has
stored it and connects automatically, using its stored password.

It may be nice to be able to access the network before logging in, but
that option should not interrupt my log-in process, and certainly not
  block it!

Moreover, given that my machine is also connected to wired ethernet
(by DHCP, no password), it is hardly a high priority to get wifi
  going.

This problem exists on both of my laptops (very different hardware).
