[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1232711] Re: fc-cache crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__FcStrCmp()

2013-09-29 Thread Mark Bennison
After looking at /var/log/fontconfig.log I see the last entry is

/usr/share/fonts/truetype/google-fonts: Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Removing this folder then lets fontconfig complete.

Martin, yes, I had just updated to Saucy. This error occurred after re-
boot, so I would have expected it to have all the saucy packages
installed? In my message (#21) it states saucy as the package
repository.

Seems to be. I haven't had the error since so I guess there's something
awry on initial run that sorts itself out. I confirm when I looked in
the file you linked to and there's no reference to threads_init.

Bug description:
  In Ubuntu 12.04, I could right-click on my usb-external-harddrive's
Unity-Task-Bar icon (launcher icon) and select "Safely Remove". Upon
doing this, the icon would disappear and I would proceed in unplugging
  my external hard drive.

However, since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10, this option is no longer
available in the context menus (Quicklists) for external drives.

Instead, all I see is "Unmount", and after clicking "Unmount" the icon
remains on the task-bar (launcher) and no indication is given that
would imply that the unmount occurred successfully.

The intent of this report is to bring back the "Safely Remove" option
which (by making the icon disappear after selected) indicates that you
may now safely removal your USB external hard drive (by unplugging its
  usb connector).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1106283] Re: [13.04]nautilus crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() when trying to open file/folder's property dialog as root where file/folder belongs to user with Unic

2013-04-01 Thread Mark Bennison
I had a similar problem too. I was trying to browse to another users
home folder to check disk usage. I launched a root nautilus through gksu
nautilus. When I right clicked on the folder (in this case 'pictures')
and selected properties I got the crash. Aport pointed me to this bug
rather than reporting a new one, so I'm adding a little bit more
information.

Firstly, the user in question is just a simple ASCII name ('betty')
rather than from the extended character set (but, of course, it may not
matter which part of the character set the characters come from). The
dialogue as reported in the original bug appeared, but I wasn't trying
to change the user and as I was running from a terminal it reported the
following:

ERROR:nautilus-properties-window.c:1836:schedule_owner_change_timeout:
assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_FILE (file))

Title:
[13.04]nautilus crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() when
trying to open file/folder's property dialog as root where file/folder
belongs to user with Unicode CJK name.

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I tried to move a file(which is the lastpass installer tarball
lplinux.tar.bz2 from http://lastpass.com ) from another user's home directory
to mine download folder(Which as been converted to "~/下載" in Traditional
Chinese), then tried to change its UID & GID to me...as root
  UID changed successfully
When I clicked on the GID selection box...it hangs for a few second and
crashed:(

To move further, I tried to open the property dialog of my home
  directory(/home/Vdragon)... crashed too.

It seems that any of file/directory belongs to me is affected. 100%
  reproducible.

Before nautilus crashed, a error window showes instantly(than vanished).
I tried to capture it as the attachment.

I suspect this issue is related to I used UTF-8 Chinese characters("林博仁") as
my ... name
  $ getent passwd Vdragon
  Vdragon:x:1001:1001:林博仁,,,:/home/Vdragon:/bin/bash

then nautilus tried to grab my ...name for displaying UID, GID of my
  file/folder...then BANG

There will be no issue if I don't execute nautilus as root then see my
file's properties.(however nautilus won't try to show the UID refers
  to who in this case)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 871777] Re: (oneiric) missing scrollbars

2011-11-06 Thread Mark Bennison
Yes. I have the same problem. All other applications with overlay and/or
scroll wheel work as I would expect. This is on 11.10 64bit (up to
date) with Unity desktop.

With Gwibber, I see the top two messages and that's it - even though I
am told I have more messages. Resizing the window has done nothing.

Running in a terminal gives:

Title:
  libreoffice is not updating

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Invalid
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This is a bug with the packaging, I think.
For the past several days, update manager has not been able to install most
of the libreoffice packages.
The following packages have been kept back:
libreoffice-base-core libreoffice-calc libreoffice-core libreoffice-draw
libreoffice-gnome libreoffice-gtk libreoffice-impress libreoffice-math
libreoffice-writer python-uno

When I try to install one, I get the following message:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   python-uno : Depends: libreoffice-core (= 1:3.4.4~rc1-0ubuntu1~ppa1) but it
is not going to be installed
Depends: ure (>= 3.4.4) but 3.4.4~rc1-0ubuntu1~ppa1 is to be
installed

But then I go into synaptic and correct broken packages, and it still
  does not install.

Well as Flickr are stopping login via anything other than a yahoo account
this is now moot and perhaps the bug can be closed?
