[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1100568] [NEW] nm-applet doesn't appear to be connecting after resume

2013-01-16 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

After I resume, nm-applet seems to go from disconnected to connected, not
giving any feedback while it's connecting.
It's a bit uncomfortable because you can't tell if you should manually connect
or not.

2013-06-04 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

For the last few weeks, unity and/or compiz has been crazy slow on both my

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910257] Re: Update status: Can't go to another window to paste text, looses input

2012-01-09 Thread Martin Albisetti
I think either a window is the right thing to do. Or have it in always-
on-top mode, so I can copy and paste from the window in the background.

Bug description:
This has enraged me enough times to file it.
A common scenario for me is to want to tweet something and paste a URL. I
don't always have the URL pre-copied when I start writing, so I tend to alt+tab
to the browser to get it. When I do this, I loose the update status window
(can't alt+tab back) and all my input has been lost.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 802922] Re: about:startpage: Missing alt text on "Google" image

Is there anything else we can do for screen readers?

about:startpage: Missing alt text on "Google" image

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Noticed while using a screen-reader - using "1" to skip to the level 1
header - it reads "link heading level 1", and nothing else.

It's image that says Google, it's used as the level 1 heading, and it
acts as a link to google.com. It should probably have an alt text of
  "Google" :-).

That would also fix the appearance when "load images automatically" is
disabled (preferences -> content). A bit like the screen-reader, it
leaves you with less information that you should have - and also the
image is still there, as a link, so you get a mysterious patch of
white space that turns out to be a link if you move the cursor over
  it.

I think there are other possible improvements as well. There would
ideally be a label associated with the search text box, which the
screen reader would read to provide some context. You probably don't
want just "Google"; you want to say "Google search". (ARIA hint:
  aria-labelled-by="id-of-google-image id-of-search-button" sounds
  cool).

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Software Center shows "No network connection" warning when there are
  actually a network connection.

It probably relies on Network Manager for it. But I don't use Network
Manager. In the past six years, it never worked for me. Not when I was
on dial-up, not when I used DSL, not when I use wireless now.

Can Software Center take more smart approach, and actually try *using*
network. If that fails, it should properly handle errors.
Because when there is no network connection, but Network Manager tells it is
there, you should properly handle errors anyway.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 910257] [NEW] Update status: Can't go to another window to paste text, looses input

2011-12-30 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

This has enraged me enough times to file it.
A common scenario for me is to want to tweet something and paste a URL. I don't
always have the URL pre-copied when I start writing, so I tend to alt+tab to
the browser to get it. When I do this, I loose the update status window (can't
alt+tab back) and all my input has been lost.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 911982] [NEW] No more indicationswhen you get messages for open conversations

2012-01-04 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

Since the last empathy upgrade, I no longer get any indications that someone is
talking to me in a chat window.
In 11.04, the messaging menu would turn blue, which was great and obvious. In
11.10, it was replaced with the almost unnoticeable arrow next to the empathy
icon on the launcher turning blue, which felt like a big regression (missed
people replying a lot, I have sounds disabled), but now, I get nothing. Nothing
turns blue, replies go completely unnoticed.
