[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1717951] Re: UIFe: Drop imagemagick-display from the default install
while I agree with removing, imagemagick is used for printint and in several graphics applications, I would propose to get rid of a particular file from the imagemagick package: /usr/lib/mime/packages/imagemagick-6.q16 this should disassociate the display gui application as being default in for example firefox. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717951 Title: UIFe: Drop imagemagick-display from the default install Status in ubuntu-settings package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in imagemagick package in Debian: New Bug description: Impact == I'm proposing to drop the ImageMagick app from the default Ubuntu 17.10. It is visible in the Show Applications view of the Activities Overview so this could impact screenshots. Justification = imagemagick is a collection of commandline utilities for working with images, photos, etc. It is a required dependency for many things and will still be installed by default. Bundled with imagemagick is the "display" app, which is an app with an unusual, difficult-to-use UI. It was not intentionally included in the default Ubuntu install but was only there because it was packaged together. I am proposing splitting the display app to a separate binary package so that it is available for install for the few who do want to use the app. I tried proposing this to Debian. See comment #60 on the attached Debian bug but the Debian maintainer doesn't seem interested in accepting my proposal any time soon. (I emailed him directly a few months ago too.) [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740743] Re: Hide Imagemagick's Display app from GNOME software
it would also be nice to kill /usr/lib/mime/packages/imagemagick-6.q16 so this rather clumsy gui wont associated as default with stuff like pdf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740743 Title: Hide Imagemagick's Display app from GNOME software Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: In bug #1717951 Imagemagick was already removed from being displayed in GNOME-Shell. It is still listed in GNOME-Software which causes some (potential) usability issues: Users can still test the "imagemagick" app from within Ubuntu Software and decide to remove it from there. Because that app looks dated, ugly and out of place in a modern desktop environment. Removing Imagemagick has the bad side-effect of removing printing support while user won't even realize that Imagemagick was printing related at all. Thus I propose to remove the app from being listed as installed in Ubuntu Software at all. Or to be moved to the "System Apps" section to prevent users from removing it manually (and unvoluntarily CUPS with it). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 606365] Re: unable to import config with inlined ca, cert, key or tls-auth
funnily enough, the bug is actually fixed, all what is needed is actually network-manager-openvpn-gnome (I tested it on version 1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1 in 16.04.2) installed and then the network settings configuration gui restarted so the new VPN shows up as openvpn, after that importing the configuration from ovpn file works.. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-openvpn in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606365 Title: unable to import config with inlined ca, cert, key or tls-auth Status in NetworkManager-OpenVPN: Fix Released Status in network-manager-openvpn package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in network-manager-openvpn package in Fedora: New Bug description: Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn-gnome So a client of mine runs an OpenVPN setup. It exported a client.ovpn file but it fails to completely import this file using the network- manager (gnome) on Ubuntu 10.04. When I import the file, it gives me the name ("client") and gateway ("vpn.example.org") on the initial screen. No other fields are populated even though the client.ovpn file also includes a user certificate, server certifikate and a private key. When I go to advanced, some (most) of the settings obviously seem to import correct, others not at all. E.g. none of the TLS settings (key and key direction) are imported. From what I understand I should be able to use this without any additional settings. The following software is installed through aptitude: * openvpn (2.1.0) * openvpn-blacklist * network-manager-openvpn * network-manager-openvpn-gnome To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/606365/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
