[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1834318] Re: Warning from Google about Ubuntu

2019-06-26 Thread Mateo Salta
I believe it is a bug, because ubuntu would need to comply with updating
the plugin in order for it to continue to function.

Status in gnome-online-accounts package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I'm not sure if it is a correct place to report this problem.

  I use Ubuntu 18.04.
  Yesterday I've got an email from Google warning that "Ubuntu" will lose
access to my Google account if it will not comply with new Google policy
requirement.

  Screenshot attached and here's the full text of the email:

  Hi,

  Although you don’t need to do anything, we wanted to let you know that the
following apps may no longer be able to access some data in your Google
account, including your Gmail content. If these apps are unable to meet the
deadline to comply with our updated data policy requirements, they'll lose
access to your account from 15 July 2019.
  Ubuntu

  We are making this change as part of ongoing efforts to make sure that
  your data is protected and private.

  You can always view, manage and remove apps to which you’ve given
  access to your account by visiting your Google account.

  Thanks,
  The Google Accounts team

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579098] Re: [touch] Mobile data connection drops, and doesn't automatically reconnect

2016-06-16 Thread Mateo Salta
Happens at work all the time, I work in a fridge, while in my pocket it
should loose connection time to time because of the area. But then
comming outside at lunch it has stopped trying to connect - must toghle
airplane mode to get it to try again.

Can we have a retry connection triggered on unlocking the phone, if the
device gave up trying to connect?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1450436] Re: Configure Chromecast as monitor

2015-11-28 Thread Mateo Salta
it won't really detect it without major doing, but I see windows has a
trick for doing it forcing to extend to a nonexistant display then
mirroring all the content to the chromecast in which the content going
to the tv is first, and content going to the computer is able to be
managed- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miGe5u-LFYQ

maybe setting the virtural desktop to extend to the left so over flow
starts on the tv - would be a dirty hack - but would make it very nice
to throw anything you want up to a tv.

Title:
  Configure Chromecast as monitor

Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  THIS IS A KIND FEATURE REQUEST -- not a bug

  Under System "Settings > Displays" it would be really nice, if
  Chromecast devices were automatically detected and appeared like any
  normal monitor that is connected directly to the computer; ie. unity-
  control-center should transparently allow the Chromecast device to be
  used as a secondary or even a primary monitor, configure mirroring,
  launcher placement, scale and everything.

  Resolution of a chromecast is most likely fixed and the option should
  therefore be ghosted. But when configuring a screencast-to-Chromecast
  from the Chrome browser, an image-quality-vs-refresh-speed option is
  present, so a dropdown for this is necessary here too. Remember to
  state the Chromecast device name so one can tell multiple chromecasts
  from another.

  I've added a screenshot to demonstrate the idea.

  I'm currently running Ubuntu 14.04, so I don't know if this has
  actually been implemented in 15.04. But I haven't found any blogs
  describing it.

  After upgrading from Xubuntu 14.04 to 14.10, the mouse pointer became

  XFCE problem (although it might be another problem with Xorg or the
  graphics stack triggered by XFCE).

  The mouse works perfectly in the login page, and when logging in with
  an user, it works fine when the XFCE logo is shown while starting the
  session, but afterwards, a graphics mode seems to change (I can see
  some activity in Xorg.log) and after that I can't see the mouse
  pointer anymore. The mouse works, the pointer is just invisible. I can
  even use it through VNC, I can see the VNC client showing the pointer
  perfectly too.

  This is rendering my computer virtually unusable.

That demo was just using chrome on xmir.

But you can change user agents for webapps -
http://askubuntu.com/questions/578455/how-can-i-set-the-user-agent-
in-a-webapp so It could work if we get the same changes into the Ubuntu
broswer oxide which is based on chromium, so I imagine it could be added
somehow...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1492481] Re: Feature request bug - show files behavior

2015-09-14 Thread Mateo Salta
I'm not sure they would consider it upstream, as they have different
goals then when the program is closely integrated into Ubuntu, I would
say it is a ux papercut for using it in unity, or other Ubuntu desktops
when launching from a file manager.

  Feature request bug - show files behavior

Bug description:
  I don't see a reason that the main application should stay open after
  "show files" is clicked.

  Wouldn't a more intuitive behavior be to close the archive browser
  when you choose to show files?

  I'm not complaining, and it's certainly not a deal-breaker for using
  file-roller, but it does seem like a needless window after a
  particular option is clicked unless there is a delete archive option
  after you click through to browse contents.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1478125] Re: If Icons on Desktop is disabled, programs can still create files there, just they are not seen

2015-07-24 Thread Mateo Salta
I think this is only applicable only to gnome desktop - because in unity
I can turn off nautilus's desktop icons, and still have the link to the
desktop.

** Also affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)

Bug description:
  I have found that annoyingly programs create icons on the desktop, but
  because the setting Icons on Desktop is off, I have to then turn it
  on so that I am able to view the desktop icons and remove it, and the
  only reason I know that anything is there is because of the fact that
  when I upload a file somewhere, the default location to look in is the
  Desktop so I see what is there. But otherwise in Nautilus I don't
  even get a link to the Desktop.

  So I think that it would be good if programs weren't allowed to create
  files on the desktop if you have the option Icons on Desktop
  enabled, or at least for the user to be prompted if they want the icon
  to be created there and for the option to be disabled. As the way it
  currently works could be exploited by attackers, because they can
  store files there, and it is unlikely that anyone will ever realise
  that they are there because it is very hard to view the desktop.

  [Regression Potential]

  The patch for this was provided by Nvidia. There could be some corner

compiz-fusion-plugins-main_0.8.2-0ubuntu2.debdiff.

  == Original report ==
  Binary package hint: compiz

  I'm using latest compiz on intrepid.

  Since jockey-gtk does not work on my box (I already filed a bug), I
  manually installed nvidia-glx-177 and added the driver → nvidia line
  to xorg.conf.

  Now I seem to be having some screen refresh problems when using
  compiz: parts of the screen are refreshed, but others aren't. That
  means nautilus doesn't show files or folders until I move the cursor
  over them, firefox doesn't show webpages properly until I scroll down,
  and so on.

  Please, tell me if there is any additional info I can provide to find
  out the cause.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1371274] Re: Unable to use the widevine plugin with Chromium

2014-12-16 Thread Mateo Salta
I've bountied this question on Ask Ubuntu:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/1488/how-can-i-use-netflix-on-ubuntu for
a Chromium answer.

This is something people want, there are situations where you can't or
don't wish to use Chrome.

1. You wish to use Chromium not chrome for various reasons, but activly watch
Netflix - would be able to enable/disable plugin by user choice.
2. Chromium is avaible as a build for ARM - on a chromebook you could copy over
the plugin and be able to watch where Chromium is the only choice.
3. Chromium could be a canidate for Ubuntu's default browser if *certain*
things were worked out, and is in the Software Center, Chrome isn't in the
Software Center.

So considering we have a possible soultion a patch + install option
(like pepper-flash) whould be something we would want, even if chromium
developers aren't persuing things like this.

I tried the gentoo iso, and it seems they are on chromium 24, so while
those flags work on that version - do something like 'chromium browser
--register-pepper-plugins=usr/lib/chromium-
browser/Pepper/libwidevinecdmadapter.so;application;x-ppapi-widevine-
cdm' when you copy the .so files over to /usr/lib/chromium-
browser/Pepper/ it isn't useful for watching netflix, also it seems the
same flags to try to get the newer version of chromium on Ubuntu fail to
register the plugin.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1059486] Re: Unity Greeter - Panel should be centred vertically

2013-01-27 Thread Mateo Salta
How about making it float, i.e. click and drag or move the entire list on
touch/hold event, and on mouse wheel/scroll-gesture.
That would maintain the current design, and remove the need for making new
scroll bar graphics, as well as solve bugs where the list goes off screen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1068605] Re: List of session type does not fit on screen with many window managers installed

2012-11-13 Thread Mateo Salta
Yeah, I had so many I could not even switch sessions, the list went
clear off the screen, I had to use tab and count how many tabs it took
to get to the bottom then tab back to the button. This was even on a
high resolution 22 inch monitor, so what does this have to do with
vertically centering anything...

Bug description:
  Please see the attached screenshot. The system has many window
  managers installed because it is a public lab machine with a many
  users that have different preferences. In order to change the session,
  one is supposed to confirm his selection by pressing the button at the
  bottem. However, the button hardly fits on the screen, in fact, one
  has to guess the purpose of the lowest button.

  On option would be to have the list of managers in a scroll box.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070530] Re: lightdm desktop environment list too long for display

2012-11-12 Thread Mateo Salta
This also happened on my 22 inch LCD when I installed several various
desktops and window managers, the only workaround was to not use
LightDM.

  lightdm desktop environment list too long for display

Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Using a device with a small screen, the one I'm using is 1024x600, the
  desktop environment selection list disappears of the bottom of the
  screen and doesn't scroll.

  Steps:
  Install a few desktops, I have added LXDE, XFCE, Gnome and KDE.
  Goto the lightdm login screen
  Click the little Ubuntu icon

  Results:
  A list of desktops is produced but only about six options appear. Apart from
Fluxbox at the top the rest all appear to be various Gnome 3 options and one of
the KDE options. LXDE, XFCE and Unity are all off the bottom of the display.
There is no way to get to them.

  Expected Results:
  The list should be able to scroll

  Versions:
  Ubuntu 12.10 fully updated
  lightdm 1.4.0-0ubuntu2

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 36227] Re: gedit doesn't handle apostrophes correctly when spell-checking

2012-11-06 Thread Mateo Salta
Same 12.04 LTS, I looked over the source code and found that sections of
gedit-spell-checker reference that it was modified from gtkspell 2.0.2.
At gtkspell.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog references in a later version:

version 2.0.11 (2005-05-27):
* Re-enable apostrophe word-breaking workarounds (GNOME bug #97545).
* Additional translations (see po/ChangeLog).

This seems that they have found a fix for gtkspell and may help to solve
the problem in gedit-spell-checker

The relevent part of the code is:
code

static gboolean
gtkspell_text_iter_forward_word_end(GtkTextIter *i) {
GtkTextIter iter;

/* heuristic:
 * if we're on an singlequote/apostrophe and
 * if the next letter is alphanumeric,
 * this is an apostrophe. */

if (!gtk_text_iter_forward_word_end(i))
return FALSE;

if (gtk_text_iter_get_char(i) != '\'')
return TRUE;

iter = *i;
if (gtk_text_iter_forward_char(iter)) {
if (g_unichar_isalpha(gtk_text_iter_get_char(iter))) {
return (gtk_text_iter_forward_word_end(i));
}
}

return TRUE;
}

/code

Which it looks like someone has already adapted into a workaround here
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131576

Looks like It may have been abandoned, since the fix existed since 2004,
and the bug since around 2002,
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97545

10 years later...

Bug description:
  Open gedit, type in wouldn't without the quotes, and either enable Autocheck
  spelling (Tools menu) or use Check Spelling to open the dialogue. Gedit
suggests
  replacing the wouldn part with wouldn't, which is performed, would yield
  wouldn't't. Also works with doesn't, couldn't, shouldn't etc. and
  anything where the contracted form adds letters to the original word, i.e.
  should not becomes shouldn't. Obviously shouldn isn't a word... but you
  know what I'm getting at :) Apostrophes seem to be considered as the end of a
  word, like whitespace.
