[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1757577] [NEW] Unclaimed AR5416 Wireless Network Adapter

2018-03-21 Thread Michael Heuberger
Public bug reported:

On my latest Ubuntu 17.10 I am unable to use my WiFi, only Ethernet.
Didn't happen before I upgraded from 16.10.

The `sudo lshw -C network` command tells me the AR5416 Wireless Network
Adapter is UNCLAIMED:

```
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB
2017-03-29 Thread Michael Heuberger
totally agree with mauro - it is very sad that nothing happens. if this
goes on, i ll have to consider another linux OS for my next machine :(
tried all the suggestions and none worked for me. too many parameters
involved, too complex, impossible to narrow down the issue.
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1524963] [NEW] Could not grab port (tty/ttyS4): 'Cannot add port 'tty/ttyS4', unhandled serial type'
2015-12-10 Thread Michael Heuberger
Public bug reported:
I see these warnings in the journalctl after every boot, on Ubuntu
15.10:
```

Dec 11 09:18:08 M2 ModemManager[816]:   Modem couldn't be initialized:

```
Any clues what this could be and why modem can't be initialized?
  I see these warnings in the journalctl after every boot, on Ubuntu
  15.10:
  ```

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1512973] [NEW] Activation of org.freedesktop.UDisks2 timed out

2015-11-04 Thread Michael Heuberger
Public bug reported:

I am unable to manage my disks. When I try so via command line I get
this timeout error

$ gnome-disks
(gnome-disks:4229): GNOME-Disks-ERROR **: Error getting udisks client: Error
calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.UDisks2:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Activation of
org.freedesktop.UDisks2 timed out
[1]4229 trace trap (core dumped) gnome-disks

Something is wrong on my Ubuntu 15.04 machine. Even when I slot in an
USB stick it won't always recognize it. Sometimes it does after a
reboot.

Any ideas what this could be?

** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1392600] Re: Unable to rename folders/files in Nautilus

2014-11-19 Thread Michael Heuberger
By the way, when I run nautilus from the terminal, I see errors:

$ nautilus
Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension
Initializing nautilus-image-converter extension
Initializing nautilus-ideviceinfo extension

** (nautilus:8360): CRITICAL **:
nautilus_menu_provider_get_background_items: assertion
'NAUTILUS_IS_MENU_PROVIDER (provider)' failed

** (nautilus:8360): CRITICAL **:
nautilus_menu_provider_get_background_items: assertion
'NAUTILUS_IS_MENU_PROVIDER (provider)' failed

Maybe this error message is the cause for this bug?

  Unable to rename folders/files in Nautilus

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  This is weird. After restarting my machine I can rename folders or
  files in Nautilus for the first few minutes. After that I cannot
  rename them anymore.

  When I hit F2 on a folder the whole folder name is highlighted and
  selected. Then, when I type, no changes become visible. It just does
  not react at all on my keyboard input.

  Really weird and bad. I have to go into the terminal to rename
  files/folders with the `mv` command :(

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1392600] Re: Unable to rename folders/files in Nautilus

2014-11-18 Thread Michael Heuberger
Yes but that's a bad workaround. Hope someone can nail down the bug and
fix it soon.

Otherwise I'll be forced to switch the OS. Renaming files from a file
manager is a very basic fundamental operation that should go smoothly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1389657] [NEW] Libpixman segfaults when searching

2014-11-05 Thread Michael Heuberger
Public bug reported:

[ 2810.133252] pool[8519]: segfault at bc ip 7f966bdabb71 sp
7f962bfed040 error 4 in libpixman-1.so.0.32.4[7f966bd55000+a3000]

Compiz crashed and I saw the above line in the dmesg output.

Happens EVERY time I pressed d on the ubuntu button for file search
(dash, icon on top in the sidebar).

Furthermore .xsession-errors has logged this as well:
upstart: unity7 main process (1925) killed by SEGV signal
upstart: unity7 main process ended, respawning

Pretty serious I'd say ...

  Unity randomly goes behind other windows, which should never happen.

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
  Unity's Dock disappears behind all other windows, as you can see from the
attached screenshot (making the dock just visible through the shortcut
Command+W).

  Once it has disappeared, the only workaround is to close all
  applications/restart the desktop to be able to access dock icons or
  launch any applications through text search, since everything has
  disappeared to an inaccessible layer.

I ran the do-release-upgrade process with sudo, so there shouldn't be
any permission issues. Weird.

Can you give me some hints?

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1183679] [NEW] Flickers most the time, even in BIOS

2013-05-24 Thread Michael Heuberger
Public bug reported:

This is very weird. My screen flickers most of the time. I'm using
NVIDIA's latest 313-updates drivers on Ubuntu 13.

Even when I go into BIOS, it flickers there. So this means the graphic
card must have buggy drivers that were installed by this NVIDIA's
package.

For even weirder reasons I cannot explain, the screen didn't flicker
yesterday evening. But is back flickering today all day until recently,
it stopped flickering again. It stopped flickering while I was upgrading
the linux kernel from 3.8.0.20 to 3.8.0.21 but I am not sure if this
really was the reason.

My graphic card is a GF116 [GeForce GTS Rev. 2]

I bet it will flicker again soon.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1152597] Re: Screen Flickers on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.10 - Intel GM45 Chipset

2013-05-22 Thread Michael Heuberger
I had a similar weird flicker today but on Ubuntu 13 + GeForce GTS 450.
Looked like on the above videos.

Even when I restarted and entered the BIOS screen the flicker was still
there. Weird.

Bug description:
  Version: 13.0.782.215~r97094-0ubuntu1
  Description:  Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
  Release:  11.10

  with chromium-codecs-ffmpeg installed(default, only ogg and webm
  support)

  chromium still reports it might be able to play back h264 video
  document.createElement('video').canPlayType('video/mp4; codecs*=avcl.42001E,
mp4a.40.2')
  should return  and not maybe

  this is used to detect which format works,

  example page using this: http://www.youtube.com/html5

  this will cause video playback to fail on pages that prefere h264 over webm
support,
  on those pages, videos will just not work.
  video.canPlayType was specifically added to the video tag api to prevent this
from happening.

Title:
  Strange error popup appears from time to time

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  From time to time I'm seeing strange error popups under Ubuntu's 12.10
  Unity. These always say:

  This problem report is damaged and cannot be processed.
  TypeError(Error('Incorrect padding',),)

  I have no idea what triggered these or where they are coming from.
  They are a nuisance. I always have to close the popup. Sometimes it's
  paranoid, happening like every 5 seconds then it won't happen for
  hours, then again.
