[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015417] [NEW] Totem doesnt release memory when going to next file

2012-06-19 Thread Morlok8k
Public bug reported:

queue up some video files (I first noticed this on some large (800MB) .mkv
files: 1080p, H264, 24fps, AAC audio)
bring up the system monitor, and watch the memory usage for totem go up and up
as the video plays.
at the end of the first video, memory usage is around 600-900MB. when the
second video starts playing, it will not drop down, but continue going up and
up.

My computer gets glitchy when it starts getting into the 900MB-1GB range
of memory usage, but thats a symptom of just not enough RAM, and the
fact that totem just doesnt release its memory usage (or at least not
fast enough, if it does at all)

My only option on these large video files is to: watch one, close totem,
and then watch another, and repeat.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
Package: totem 3.0.1-0ubuntu21

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 988169] Re: Icon Resize on desktop - "Restore Size" is greyed out

2012-04-29 Thread Morlok8k
Yes, i can select it even though it is grey. I didn't think about
clicking it, as i just assumed that since it was grey it wouldn't work.

If you put an icon on the desktop (In Gnome Fallback mode) you can right
click and select "resize icon".
  This works fine.

However, once you again click on the now-resized icon, the text that
says "Restore Icon's Original Size" is greyed out - implying that it's
not selectable, when, in reality, it is.

The option should be greyed out when it hasn't been resized or is the
original size, but it shouldn't be greyed out after the size has been
  changed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 979545] Re: package lightdm 1.2.0-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2012-04-12 Thread Morlok8k
i finally was able to get a GUI login screen after i logged in via
ALT+F2.

i installed lightdm and gdm.
i set lightdm to be used ("dpkg-reconfigure lightdm")
i typed in "sudo lightdm"
it didnt work. no error message - just brought me back to the original
boot-text screen
ALT-F2
"sudo reboot now"
Still didnt work.
ALT-F2
i set gdm to be used
i typed "sudo gdm"
Login screen works!
rebooted
GDM showed up!

So, basically, lightdm did not work at all for me (its ok, i prefer gdm anyways)
But I need to have it installed for GDM to work (which was not the case for
11.10).

Without lightdm, i could not get GDM to work, even when configured to
use GDM.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 986898] Re: Icons "Privacy" and "Backup" are swapped in System Settings

2012-04-24 Thread Morlok8k
yes, i noticed this too.

You would think that privacy would be the icon of the safe, and that
privacy would be the arrow around around the clock.

I also think that the sound icon would make more sense if it was a
speaker or something, not a knob.

And Online Accounts - i dont know what should replace that.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 971665] Re: Full system backup hangs at 100% and makes the whole system very unresponsive

2012-04-24 Thread Morlok8k
i have a similar situation. deja-dup-monitor will suck up 630MB of
RAM, and i have backups disabled! (i forget how much CPU it uses, but
it's not the 100% like the above person.)

I just kill it whenever my system starts to get unresponsive, as i dont
use backups. I do my own manual backups when i want to.

I have 4GB of ram, core 2 duo, 64Bit ubuntu 12.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 988169] [NEW] Icon Resize on desktop - "Restore Size" is unselectable

2012-04-24 Thread Morlok8k
Public bug reported:

In 12.04:

If you put an icon on the desktop (In Gnome Fallback mode) you can right click
and select "resize icon".
This works fine.

However, once you again click on the now-resized icon, the text that
says "Restore Icon's Original Size" is not selectable.

You have to manually resize it by eye, and that may not be perfect.

Also, opening the desktop folder in a window, gives no options about

Title:
Icon Resize on desktop - "Restore Size" is unselectable

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  In 12.04:

If you put an icon on the desktop (In Gnome Fallback mode) you can right
click and select "resize icon".
  This works fine.

However, once you again click on the now-resized icon, the text that
says "Restore Icon's Original Size" is not selectable.

You have to manually resize it by eye, and that may not be perfect.

Also, opening the desktop folder in a window, gives no options about
resizing - Similar to bug #402642

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 988169] Re: Icon Resize on desktop - "Restore Size" is greyed out

2012-04-25 Thread Morlok8k
you are correct, the option does appear after a reboot. I had not tried
this when i first discovered the bug.

I just thought to myself - "huh? i can resize an icon? cool... lets try
it." then found out i couldn't revert it, except manually.

Title:
Icon Resize on desktop - "Restore Size" is greyed out

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

click and select "resize icon".
  This works fine.

However, once you again click on the now-resized icon, the text that
says "Restore Icon's Original Size" is greyed out - implying that it's
not selectable, when, in reality, it is.

The option should be greyed out when it hasn't been resized or is the
original size, but it shouldn't be greyed out after the size has been
  changed.
