I have had some kind of success on this front. In order to get Lubuntu
to boot and install I added nomodeset and idle=nomwait in the linux
parameters in grub. I found here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2042773 that nomodeset is the
thing that is preventing the HDMI from working. I tried it (removing
nomodeset but keeping idle=nomwait) and the first time I managed to boot
and have the HDMI working perfectly. When I reboot though I had to reset
the nomodeset parameter in order for me to be able to boot into Lubuntu
again.
