I can confirm that it happens with wine itself also. I can confirm this on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) from the cdimage.ubuntu.com/dvd/current site. I used the PC-amd64.iso to install, and installed all available updates prior to trying to install the ATI FGLRX (post Update release) drivers.
