[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1195725] Re: Nautilus window jumping with dual monitors

2013-07-01 Thread Phil. V
Thanks for your bug report. I'll confirm this, as from the ask ubuntu
link there are two people experiencing this problem. Not sure how to fix
it though, sorry!

Could you please run apport-collect 1195725 in a terminal? That will
attach some relevant debugging information to this report.

Title:
Nautilus window jumping with dual monitors

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Not sure whether this is a Nautilus bug or window manager bug, but
  here goes ...

A bug report has already been filed at askubuntu :
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/279641/nautilus-dual-monitor-issue

I have a dual monitor setup (big desktop style where mouse goes from
one screen to the other) in Precise 12.04.2 with my laptop on the left
and external screen on the right. I have an ATI Radeon HD3635 card
using fglrx drivers and I'm always using the Gnome Classic (No
  effects) environment.

  What happens:

  1. Open Nautilus program on ext screen and maximize it
  2. Double click on a random folder
  3. The Nautilus window jumps to the laptop screen

  What should happen:

  1. Open Nautilus program on ext screen and maximize it
  2. Double click on a random folder
  3. The Nautilus window should stay where it is. On the ext screen.

  When it doesn't happen:

  1. Open Nautilus program on ext screen and make sure it's not maximized
  2. Double click on random folder
  3. The Nautilus window stays on the ext screen

I also have a startup script doing this:

  /usr/bin/xrandr --output CRT1 --right-of LVDS
  /usr/bin/xrandr --output CRT1 --primary

Where CRT1 is the ext screen and LVDS is laptop screen.

Any help is appreciated, even more because Precise stays supported
until 2017. And it's an annoying bug. ;)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 919871] Re: Empathy Keeps Crashing

2012-01-22 Thread Phil. V
Sure, no problem. It's likely that this isn't a problem with the Ubuntu
packaging of empathy, and will need to be addressed by the folks over at
GNOME. Could you possibly report this to the empathy developers at their
bug tracker? The URL is here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/

After you do that please post the link to your bug here so I can link
the bugs on launchpad. Also, they're likely to ask for a stack trace
since this is a program crash. Instructions for obtaining that can be
found here: http://live.gnome.org/Empathy/Debugging

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 919027] Re: headphone which works windows platform does not work in Linux partition having Ubuntu

2012-01-19 Thread Phil. V
Hi there,
Thanks for your bug report. You're running Ubuntu 10.10. It may be prudent to
upgrade to 11.04, or preferably 11.10, as it's possible that you're problem is
fixed in a newer version of Ubuntu. Also, 10.10 will no longer be supported
starting in April, so there's another reason to upgrade! In any case I'm
re-targeting this to alsa-driver for you, as that's the correct package for a
problem like this. If upgrading doesn't solve your problem, or isn't an option,
hopefully someone more familiar with debugging sound problems can help you out.

I click the play/pause, stop, next or previous button on my laptop (toshiba,

At some moment it worked, but I don't remember with wich update it stopped
working.
  Thanks
  Cheers

I'm using ubuntu 11.10. All packages updates to 25/dic/2011.

  rhythmbox:
Installed: 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1.1

When I click the buttons instead of playing next son, pause, etc. A
square with a circle and a cross (no) appears in my monitor. Also in
the sound icon (top bar) I see sound control and rythmbox, but when I

  ===
  Distribution: 12.04 Alpha
  Kernel: 3.2.0-2-generic #5-Ubuntu SMP
  Status: Vanilla installation
  Package: 0.9.1.90 (via NetworManager --version)

  Problem Description

The Huawei USB Broadband dongle which works perfectly in 10.10 fails to work
in 12.04 Alpha.
Although the problem was reported under bug #840082 and resolved via a
0.9.0-ubuntu3, it creeps back into 12.04 Alpha.
The system is able to detect the dongle, it reports logging into home network
However, trying to establish internet connection will result in failed
connection.

  Work around
  ==
  * this was accidentally found while trying to study the problem.
  1. Find the pid of NetworkManager (ps -aef | grep -i networkmanager)
  2. kill -9 PID; NetworkManager --no-daemon
  3. try to connect to internet, for my case it works. No guarantee though.

  Next Step

will be doing a complete upgrade of all packages (apt-get upgrade -y) and
test it again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 897533] Re: printer wont work

2011-11-29 Thread Phil. V
CUPS handles printing in Ubuntu, so I'll re-target this there. Could you please
run the following command in a terminal to attach debugging information related
to printing problems to this report:
apport-collect 897533

Also, I see now that you're running karmic. You should consider
upgrading to a supported release, as support for 9.10 ended in April.
It's quite possible that your printer works in a later version of
Ubuntu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 891811] Re: Yahoo account fails to login

2011-11-28 Thread Phil. V
Roger,
If it isn't too much trouble, could you comment upstream and attach your haze
log files? Hopefully your logs will be of more help in determining the problem.

I'll mark this as confirmed again on the Ubuntu side of things, as it
appears to be a valid issue that is not due to user error.

2011-11-24 Thread Phil. V
This is marked incomplete because the upstream folks marked the upstream
report as such, and the bug tracker automatically carries changes that
occur upstream over. They asked for haze's logs, if you'd like to
comment upstream and attach those logs. You can get them from the
helpdebug menu. Otherwise, we can just wait for the person who
forwarded the bug upstream to attach those logs.

Thanks for your bug report. I packaged this against CUPS, as it concerns a
printing problem. Could you please run the following command in a terminal:

That will add relevant debugging and system information regarding
printing problems to your report, as this was originally packaged
against gedit.

Also, I see that your bug report isn't in English. Could you possibly
translate it? Most developers and bug triagers speak English, so having
the report in English will make it easier to work on.

2011-11-07 Thread Phil V
I've made this bug report the master report for this problem. Bug 887349
is also duplicate of this bug, but it has a different package so I will
not mark it as such until someone more familiar with the empathy login
protocol for MSN can make an informed decision regarding the correct
package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 886667] Re: boot moves desktop icons

2011-11-06 Thread Phil V
Thanks for attaching the information. Unfortunately I was unable to
reproduce this on a virtualbox installation and on my laptop, but
hopefully someone else with a similar hardware and/or software
configuration to yourself can reproduce this. I wish I could help more,
but I'm actually not that familiar with nautilus. Now that the correct
package is targeted and the appropriate system information is attached,
though, someone more familiar with nautilus should be able to help you
further.

Title:
  boot moves desktop icons

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I arrange non-overlapping icons on my desktop for tasks that I am working on
or files I want to read later.
When I boot the next time the bottom 'row' of icons are moved upwards, on top
of icons above them, making it difficult to work with them.
This is a 'polish' bug - reducing the predictable usability of Unity. I can
'work around it' by moving files/folders off of the desktop but it isn't the
way I find 'natural' (for me) to treat a desktop - I expect the things on my
desk will remain where I left them the previous time I was working there ;-)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 886667] Re: boot moves desktop icons

2011-11-05 Thread Phil V
I re-targeted this to nautilus, as it is responsible for managing desktop
icons. Also, so we can get some more system information attached to this
report, could you please run the following command in a terminal and then
change the status of this report back to new:
apport-collect 886667

Thanks in advance!

2011-11-03 Thread Phil V
This sounds like a good idea to optimize search times, but this is more
of a feature request and I suspect we should avoid an Ubuntu delta for
it. Would you mind opening a bug/feature request against Thunderbird on
Bugzilla for this? That way the Thunderbird developers can determine if
this can be incorporated into their search algorithm, and if it would
benefit the majority of users, as it's possible the current behavior is
based on usage data showing that, on average, users search for old mail
more often than recent mail.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 885845] Re: NO SOUND since updating Ubuntu 10.04.3LTS recent.

2011-11-03 Thread Phil V
Thanks for your bug report. I believe the package to report this against is
alsa-driver, not gnome-media. Could you please run the following command in a
terminal to attach relevant system information regarding your problem:
apport-collect 885845

That information should enable someone more knowledgeable about the
alsa-driver to help you with your problem. In the meantime you may want
to check out sound troubleshooting:

OK without any problems then I did apt-get update apt-get upgrade and
apt-get dist-upgrade,and the sound has completely gone.I did this
fresh install because I had the exact same system and a recent upgrade
or dist-upgrade did the exact same thing. So,some thing went wrong with
this latest updates(since 10.04.3 Julay 2011),with the kernel itself
or sound related packages. It needs to be corrected by Ubuntu because
NO DOUBT it is factory made.

Network proxy setting does not set apt.conf from the second time

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879223

Title:
Network - Network Proxy - Apply System Wide does NOT update
  /etc/apt/apt.conf

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I bring my Ubuntu laptop to work, I must tell it to connect to
the proxy server. To do this, I go to the Network pane, then the
Network Proxy sub-pane. Under Method I select Automatic and
enter the correct Configuration URL. Then I press Apply System
wide. My web browser now can connect to the Internet. However,
applications like Update Manager, and Ubuntu Software Center, and
even apt-get in the command line fail to communicate with ANY
package repository servers. Checking /etc/apt/apt.conf, I see the
  file is empty.

  To reproduce this issue:
  1. With a computer that does not connect to the Internet via proxy, isolate
the computer behind a firewall which forwards all Web traffic (HTTP, HTTPS,
FTP) to a content-filtering proxy server.
  2. In gnome-control-center, go to Network - Network Proxy, and set the
method to Automatic, filling in the correct URL for the proxy configuration
file. The same problem seems to occur if you configure the proxy settings
manually.
  3. Press the Apply system wide button.
  4. Open Update Manager and press Check and/or Install Updates. FAILS --
package updates appear to begin to download, but eventually times-out and
reports an error.
  5. Check /etc/apt/apt.conf, it should be empty (or unchanged by
gnome-control-center).

  Work-around:
As a root user, modify /etc/apt/apt.conf by hand with content like:
Acquire::http::proxy http://proxy.serv.org:8080/;;
Acquire::https::proxy https://proxy.serv.org:8080/;;
Acquire::ftp::proxy ftp://proxy.serv.org:8080/;;
Acquire::socks::proxy socks://proxy.serv.org:8080/;

Since this bug affects a variety of programs, (Pidgin, Firefox, and

of system wide proxy settings, not the individual programs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

   *** 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6 0
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The new GUI doesn't correctly toggle
gconf/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy to true when only a socks
server is specified. Without this, neither Chrome nor Firefox will
attempt to tunnel through socks. As a workaround, set this value
  manually using gconf-editor.

Reproduce by setting up a socks server using the standard ssh -D
port user@remote_machine. Attempt to configure the system-wide
proxy by entering localhost and port into the new 11.10 proxy
configuration utility's socks server fields. Open Chrome or Firefox
and change the app's proxy settings to use system. Notice that no
HTTP traffic tunnels through the system socks proxy.

Somewhat related: the ignored hosts list is very useful for users on
corporate networks where they do need some internal resources. It
  should be included.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic

2011-10-18 Thread Phil V
This problem with firefox has also been documented in bug #875266, which
has been triaged and assigned to the folks at Mozilla, by the way.

Title:
Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Running Ubuntu 11.10.

  gnome-control-center:
    Installed: 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6
    Candidate: 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6
    Version table:
   *** 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6 0
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The new GUI doesn't correctly toggle
gconf/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy to true when only a socks
server is specified. Without this, neither Chrome nor Firefox will
attempt to tunnel through socks. As a workaround, set this value
  manually using gconf-editor.

Reproduce by setting up a socks server using the standard ssh -D
port user@remote_machine. Attempt to configure the system-wide
proxy by entering localhost and port into the new 11.10 proxy
configuration utility's socks server fields. Open Chrome or Firefox
and change the app's proxy settings to use system. Notice that no
HTTP traffic tunnels through the system socks proxy.

Somewhat related: the ignored hosts list is very useful for users on
corporate networks where they do need some internal resources. It
  should be included.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877088] Re: Network proxy setting does not set apt.conf from the second time

2011-10-18 Thread Phil V
I can't seem to reproduce this, my apt.conf changes as expected both
times. Disregard my previous comment by the way, I found that bug to be
a duplicate of one that has already been triaged.

Network proxy setting does not set apt.conf from the second time

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  How to reproduce:
1. open network settings in gnome-control-center
2. set proxy like the example below:
* method - manual
* HTTP Proxy - example.com:8080
* HTTPS Proxy - example.com:8090
3. press Apply system wide
- confirm proxy settings are written in /etc/environment and
/etc/apt/apt.conf
4. turn off proxy by set back the Method to None and press Apply system
wide again.
- confirm proxy settings are gone from /etc/environment and
/etc/apt/apt.conf
5. set proxy again as well as step. 2, then press Apply system wide again.

  Expected to happen:
6. proxy settings are written in /etc/environment and /etc/apt/apt.conf

  What happened instead:
6. proxy settings are written in only /etc/environment, then
/etc/apt/apt.conf remains as blank.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877610] Re: After regional formats are set to Dutch on an English system, Software Center asks permission using a mixture of Dutch and English

2011-10-18 Thread Phil V
Please include the version of Ubuntu that you are running in your
report. Under 11.10 64 bit I was unable to reproduce your exact problem;
the prompt requesting elevated privileges from the software center was
fully translated. A prompt requesting elevated privileges for changing
proxy settings was not fully translated, however, as the title was in
English System policy prevents setting proxy settings. It's possible
other prompts aren't fully translated as well, so this should certainly
be looked into. Did you ensure that you set not only regional formats to
dutch but also the system language to dutch? From your report that is
unclear.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 876466] Re: Libreoffice Formular: 5 characters in formular are invisible

2011-10-17 Thread Phil V
When I attempt to create a formula using those characters they show up
just fine for me. I'm running LibreOffice 3.4.3 and 11.10 64 bit.
Perhaps consider upgrading to the latest version of LibreOffice?

There is a bug in the formular editor when using little greek
  characters.

For example the code %phi effect only a distance in the result.

I have tested now many greek symbols and there are 5 little greek symbols
that don't work:
  %epsilon
  %vartheta
  %varpi
  %varsigma
  %phi

I don't know the chracters starting with var*, but the %epsilon and %phi has
to be fixed.

Attached there is my libreoffice writer file with the test-formular.

  Regards,
  Arthur
