[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1964120] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV at ?+a7c called from (Cannot access memory at address [in stack])

2022-04-13 Thread Rafal
Got directed here from bug (private due to coredump attachement) that
Daniel marked a duplicate of this one.

I can reliably reproduce my original issue following:

1. Fresh boot
2. Connect external monitors
3. Put laptop to sleep
4. Wake laptop from sleep (one of two external monitors is still black)
5. Go to Settings -> Display (Gnome thinks both monitors are enabled)
6. Disable the black monitor and enable it again.
7. Gnome enables the problematic monitor for a split second and then disables
it instantly.

Attaching prevboot.txt for the above.

I have so far two workarounds for my issue

Workaround 1:
- go to TTY3 with Ctrl+Alt+F3 (no need to log in, just wait for all monitors to
work)
- go to TTY1 with Ctrl+Alt+F1 (lands on GDM log in page, I log in)
- all monitors now work and applications are preserved (sometimes need to
enable it in settings)

Workaround 2:
- power cycle the black monitor (but without messing with Settings -> Display
first)

Happy to provide more information or test solutions. It was driving me crazy to
at least figure out reproducibility pattern and possible workarounds (stayed
until 3am one night experimenting...).

Not sure if useful but I also learned:
- happens also on kernel 5.17 from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.17.2/amd64/
- happens also on live usb session from Ubuntu 22.04 so not likely my local
changes
- does not happen on live usb of fedora 36 beta (tested as it also has gnome 42)

Just happened again. Disconnecting external monitors lead to crash in

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1968099] Re: gnome shell crashes after disconnecting external monitors

2022-04-12 Thread Rafal
So far so good, will keep an eye and report back in case I experience a
bad crash again.

I do sometimes get logged out after messing with monitors still but
after log in all applications are still there. Don't know if this is
expected, I'd say not, but as the work is not lost it does not seem
"critical".

2022-04-12 Thread Rafal
It just happened after booting with monitors disconnected and then connecting
the monitor.
Ubuntu offered to file a bug with more information
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1968712 collected on
its own so I will try to close this one and we can follow there.

Edit: apologies, it seems I don't know how to close the bug here, none of
options seems appropriate

One auto-reported itself to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/+bug/1968695 but seems unrelated to this specific issue. Second
one system suggest it may be
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1968478 so I am not
sure any are related to the issue I am trying to report.

Happy to provide any required information as this would potentially be blocking
from using this once it reach stable.

Last bit of information: it also happens on live usb of 22.04 beta (tested
yesterday) and does not happen on live usb of fedora 36 beta (wanted to check
as it also has gnome 42). All tested under wayland.

2022-04-12 Thread Rafal
This one seems not to happen any more after removing the said extensions
(system-monitor-next...) but I also disabled dash and icon desktop.

I am still experiencing another issue related to monitors but it is
probably separate so will follow in another report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1888928] [NEW] "getaddrinfo for local hostname failed: No address associated with hostname" for IPv4 to IPv6 converted address

2020-07-25 Thread Rafal Kupiec
Public bug reported:

I am trying to setup saned for remote scanning, but without luck. On
server side I have allowed 192.168.1.0/24 subnet, but remote host does
not find a scanner. During investigation I found the following in
server's logs:

Jul 25 11:40:42 X saned[4167]: bailing out, waiting for children...
Jul 25 11:40:42 X saned[4167]: bail_out: all children exited
Jul 25 11:40:42 X saned[4299]: saned (AF-indep+IPv6) from sane-backends 1.0.30
starting up
Jul 25 11:40:42 X saned[4299]: do_bindings: [0] bind failed: Address already in
use
Jul 25 11:40:42 X saned[4300]: Now daemonized
Jul 25 11:40:43 X saned[4314]: check_host: access by remote host:
:::192.168.1.2
Jul 25 11:40:43 X saned[4314]: check_host: getaddrinfo for local hostname
failed: No address associated with hostname
Jul 25 11:40:43 X saned[4314]: init: access by host :::192.168.1.2 denied
Jul 25 11:40:43 X saned[4314]: quit: exiting

It looks to me like it is treating the IPv4 to IPv6 converted address as a
hostname and trying to resolve it, what of course fails. This looks like a bug
for me. Adding ":::192.168.1.2" to access list does not resolve the problem.

# sysctl -a | grep "net.ipv6.bindv6only"
net.ipv6.bindv6only = 0

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1025388] Re: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones

2016-02-27 Thread Rafal Koterwa
The headphones I am using have no microphone. When I plug them in the
sound is switching for the headphones, and that is working fine - sound
is crystal clear - no problems.

The issue starts when I plug them in the built-in microphone starts to
work incorrectly (it makes some noises). So I am not able to use Skype
with my headphones without mic and built in microphone.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1025388] Re: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones

2016-02-26 Thread Rafal Koterwa
I have the same bug on 14.04 LTS (Lenovo T430).

When I plug the headphone the internal microphone starts to work
incorrectly.

In the mixer I have two controls (1. for the headphones, 2. for internal
mic) When the headphones are plugged in the mic starts to make some
noises.

Please let me know if you need anything from my end. Thanks for help.

Raf.

Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)
  5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

-- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
  destination is read ony --

If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the
destination is read only, when it is not.

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1154431] Re: Unity doesn't start up

2013-03-17 Thread Rafal Cieślak
I am affected by a bug which looks just as this one, and appeared in in
apparently the same version of unity package, yet I can't tell if it's
indeed the same - for I am using AMD graphics. If this is the same bug,
I might provide additional information.

Can you please share your output when running `unity`? In my case it
complains - among many warnings and other info - that plugin 'opengl'
failed to load. This seems to be a significant clue.
