[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727050] [NEW] gvfsd-mtp crashed with SIGSEGV (connecting Android?)
Public bug reported: I USB-connected my Android phone to my notebook computer just to recharge it, then I received a bug report message from gvfsd. I have no idea what happened. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1592382] Re: Updates are notified even when they are installed automatically
As far as I understand the fix is no longer "proposed" but released; but I still experience this phenomenon (bubble with “software updates available” but no reaction on clicks). On my system (Ubuntu 16.04, daily updates) it happened an hour ago. gnome-software/about says 3.20.1. Looking through open windows I discovered an update manager, hidden behind other windows. So maybe it just was a wrong expectation of mine that clicking on the bubble would pop up update manager? Is the bubble just a sign to “look for update manager”? Sorry if this sounds more like a question than a bug comment – at the moment I cannot tell the difference. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592382 Title: Updates are notified even when they are installed automatically Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Fix Released Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gnome-software source package in Xenial: Fix Released Bug description: HOW TO REPRODUCE: 1. RESULT: In a day there will be a bubble notification telling you there are important updates ready to be installed, but those are set to be installed automatically and the Update Manager won't show up. RELEVANT DETAILS: - The bubble can show up multiple times during the same user session. - The bubble seems to belong to gnome-software, where the Software Updater should be the only application asking the user to upgrade. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1231588] Re: Running unclutter without "-noevent" causes focus problems for Firefox and Thunderbird
I am experiencing this problem with both Firefox and Thunderbird (and have lost many e-mail messages because my typing suddenly went to the index window and was interpreted there as a "delete"). Contrary to the original poster, I have the problem only with keyboard events, never with mouse events. Klicking, dragging, marking all works fine on the foreground window. Key strokes suddenly start going to the background window. Switching the foreground between windows does not help. Closing and restarting the whole application usually helps. My workaround in Thunderbird is to create an empty folder and switch the index window to it before typing a message, so the stray keystrokes cannot do much damage. In Firefox I use tabs instead of windows. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unclutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1231588 Title: Running unclutter without "-noevent" causes focus problems for Firefox and Thunderbird Status in Mozilla Firefox: Won't Fix Status in unclutter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have found in the last day or so that Firefox windows do not accept focus when they are clicked upon. The focus (and key and mouse events) are still sent to a different window even after it has been selected for the foreground by click or ALT+TAB,ALT+`. Initially I experienced this on a dual-head display, but even when the window is moved from the external monitor to the built-in laptop monitor, events are routed to the wrong firefox window. This issue has survived an apt-get upgrade and a reboot, and is still occurring. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1553561] [NEW] question mark in window titles
Public bug reported: I asked support question 287448 about this issue and Actionparsnip suggested I file a bug about it. I am running Ubuntu 15.10 with daily updates. When the title of a window contains non-ASCII characters they often (not always) are displayed as "replacement characters" (question mark in diamond, ). I can reproduce this with Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, and LibreOffice. By going to a directory with a non-ASCII sign in its name I can also reproduce it in gnome-terminal. When I override Compiz (0.9.12.2) with Metacity the characters are displayed correctly. I see no exact pattern in the affected texts; for instance, the titles of these two URLs both contain an "ö" (U+00F6) but only the first one exhibits the behavior in Firefox, the second displays the "ö" correctly: * https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%B6r * https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%B6ldner When I run compiz in a terminal I see the following messages when the problem occurs: * unityreak_table (break_type) :0 Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text() * unity.windowmanager.x XWindowManager.cpp:107 Impossible to get the property WM_NAMEfor window ... properly: impossible to convert to current locale My locale ($LANG) is eo.utf8, so there should not be a problem converting any Unicode string. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553561 Title: question mark in window titles Status in software-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I asked support question 287448 about this issue and Actionparsnip suggested I file a bug about it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1535620] Re: software-center crashes on locale without underscore
I just corrected Ubuntu 5.10 to 15.10 in my description. Sorry. I could not find where the LOGging of software-center goes so I put in a couple of print statements and found the following: * On the first call of software-center after system boot I get an "org.freedesktop.Geoclue.Error.notAvailable: Geoclue master client has no usable Address providers". The script falls back to _get_region_dumb(), which fails for lack of an underscore in the locale. * On the second call, client.GetAddress() returns rather detailed location information, of which the country code is used. So, the first problem is, why does the Geoclue call fail on first try and succeed on second. The second problem is, what can my system use as a fallback, given there is no country information in my locale. For this I need to know what the country is used for. Since nobody here seems to know the answer I dug through a bit of code and found the following comment (in categories.py): """ this build the dict used to substitute menu entries dynamically, currently used for the CURRENT_REGION The country code is put into a dictionary (_template_dict) under the key CURRENT_REGION. It is then used to make substitutions in many strings ("Utility", "Accessibility", "Settings", etc), none of which, however, seems at present to contain the CURRENT_REGION key. I conclude that it is safe for me to use an empty country code as fallback, by putting the following check into _get_region_dumb(): if not '_' in loc: return res I still suggest that this is a bug and should be fixed. ** Attachment added: "check for locale without underscore in region.py" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/1535620/+attachment/4580715/+files/patch_region.py -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1535620 Title: software-center crashes on locale without underscore Status in software-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I am running Ubuntu 15.10.
