[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1855709] Re: [nvidia] Activities search menu won't show any icon

2019-12-12 Thread RiccardoLB
Finally! The issue was definitely in the graphic driver. I purged the
nvidia-440 (which, by the way, was the suggested open source driver) and
the issue was gone using the standard Nouveau driver. I reinstalled the
nvidia driver from terminal, and the funny thing is I wrote nvidia-
driver-435* but it installed nvidia-driver-440. The important thing is
that now the issue is gone and here is the output (or part of it) of
journalctl -b0:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1855709] Re: Activities search menu won't show any icon

2019-12-11 Thread RiccardoLB
I also uninstalled the following extensions:
drop down terminal
dynamic panel transparency
gsconnect
impatience
open weather
text translator

the only extensions left are (they all came preinstalled):
user themes (on)
ubuntu dock (off)
ubuntu appindicators (off)
desktop icons (off)

the problem persists after reboot

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1855709] [NEW] Activities search menu won't show any icon

2019-12-09 Thread RiccardoLB
Public bug reported:

since I upgraded from ubuntu 19.04 to ubuntu 19.10, the search function will
not show any software, file, etc. icon anymore. If I write in the search box
the exact name of the software, say for example "writer", and I hit the enter
key the program will start fine. So, the search itself is working, I just do
not see any icon. If I use Super + A, I can see all the icons there, but if I
start typing something in the search box, icons disappear.
All my Gnome Shell extensions work fine and don't show any sign of
incompatibility or error: Text translator, Drop down terminal, Dynamic panel
transparency, Gsconnect, Impatience, and Openweather.
I have already trued to reinstall gnome-session with no result.
I am running gnome-shell 3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1~19.10.1 in ubuntu 19.10

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
