[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876863] Re: touchpad stops generating mouse motion after a while (focal, lenovo yoga c930)
I am also affected, touchpad stops registering motion now and then. Like every 5 seconds or so. Worked like a charm before -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876863 Title: touchpad stops generating mouse motion after a while (focal, lenovo yoga c930) Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Ever since upgrading to focal from eoan, my trackpad stops tracking motion after a while. I'm just mousin' along switching apps and tabs; selecting, cutting, pasting; doing all that usual stuff and suddenly the cursor doesn't move. Tapping on the touchpad generates the expected left- or right-click events. My external mouse still works. This has happened with kernel 5.4.0-28 and 5.4.0-29; 5.3.0-46 was working just fine. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Release: 20.04 $ uname -a Linux thorium 5.4.0-29-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 29 14:32:27 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Messing around with the touchpad settings doesn't restore the touchpad to operation, though it can enable/disable the mouse clicks. Suspend and resume doesn't restore the touchpad. A reboot fixes the touchpad. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1881421] [NEW] Thinkpad T440s trackpad and trackpoint stop working after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Hi, this is a sporadic issue that sometimes appears, sometimes not. Usually once it starts happening it occurs on every suspend/resume cycle until the system is rebooted. If I wake up the computer after it spending some time in the suspend state, the cursor will be invisible. The courser still works (I can click on stuff and hover the invisible cursor over stuff), but the little arrow is not visible. This bug showed up a few days ago after an update. Putting the computer back in suspend state and immediately waking it back up resolves the issue until the next time the computer is put in suspend state for an extended period of time. It is possible that this bug has something to do with Whisker Menu. Sometimes when the courser is invisible it will still show up over Whisker Menu. Most of the time it is invisible there too. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1516913] [NEW] can't install arping due to conflicts with iputils-arping
Public bug reported: This bug needs to be raised against the arping and iputils-arping packages. arping and iputils-arping both provide a binary called arping. It is impossible to install arping as iputils-arping conflicts with arping (and many other packages do as well) arping provides capabilities that iputils-arping does not including pinging a mac address among other things. As the 2 versions of arping use conflicting options and offer different functionality they should not both have the same name. Even worse ifupdown-extra depends on arping while the iputils-* requires iputils-arping. This results in ifupdown-exta being uninstallable on a standard desktop system (network manager depends on iputils-arping) There are a number of bugs around regarding this, some dating back over 10 years. eg: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/arping/+bug/833546 Perhaps it is time for the two maintainers to merge their projects to solve this for ever, or at least rename one of them. simple solution would be rename arping package and binary to arp-ping This system is Mint17 but this issue exits on all debian based systems and probably other distros as well. ** Affects: linuxmint Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: iputils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: iputils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to iputils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1516913 Title: can't install arping due to conflicts with iputils-arping Status in Linux Mint: New Status in iputils package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This bug needs to be raised against the arping and iputils-arping packages. arping and iputils-arping both provide a binary called arping. Wow, nice catch. This makes Unity 7 work 100 times better for me now, and it solves some additional bugs in addition to the ones mentioned above: - Nautilus copy progress window doesn't hide or get lost altogether - Apps that were hidden into the system tray (Clementine, SpiderOak, Pidgin, etc.) used to restore to the dock, but not actually appear if another app was maximized. This required restoring and then clicking on the dock icon to actually make it visible. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1463169] [NEW] NetworkManager should disable IPv6 by default with private IP addresses
Public bug reported: Where I live the only ISP is giving DSL customers a cheap Huawei DSL modem/WiFI router combo device. Except that their customers know absolutely nothing about configuring it, and when the rare customer does ask to configure it they refuse to give them the username and password, claiming that the device belongs to the ISP and only being "loaned" to the customer. Unfortunately they provide it out of the box with IPv6 support enabled over the LAN. The connected WiFI devices still receive an IPv4 address in the 192.168.1.x range, but some kind of IPv6 support is enable for devices that support it. This does not pose a problem for Windows, Android, and iOS devices, apparently because they don't support IPv6. But unfortunately Ubuntu devices don't work with this configuration. The device connects to WiFI and receives a 192.168.1.x address with DNS and default gateway correct, but it can't access the Internet. The way to fix it is: 1. Open NetworkManager "Edit Connections" for the connection 2. In the "IPv6 Settings" tab, set "Method" dropdown to "Ignore" 3. Disconnect and re-connect to WiFI, and it can access the Internet. These steps are unnecessary. It seems like NetworkManager should always disable IPv6 whenever it receives and address in the private IP space, because nobody will use IPv6 on a LAN. This issue is becoming increasingly common around the world, and it makes Ubuntu look "complicated" to new users in comparison with the antiquated proprietary systems that don't support IPv6 and therefore work great out of the box. Thanks for considering this improvement. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1463169 Title: NetworkManager should disable IPv6 by default with private IP addresses Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Where I live the only ISP is giving DSL customers a cheap Huawei DSL modem/WiFI router combo device. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1061069]
I just wanted to chime in and say that the "home:jsmeix" repository for Cups 1.75 is absolutely essential to connect to my wireless printer work with Avahi on openSUSE. Many thanks! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
Just got bit by this bug. I have two laptops running 13.04. The faster one with an Intel Core I5 is running x86, and the slower one is running amd64. (I prefer x86, but the slower laptop had a different bug that prevented me from using x86.) The fast laptop doesn't have any Nautilus / Samba / GVFS problems, but the slow laptop is completely broken for file transfers. I don't know if this has to do with the speed or if 32bit vs 64bit makes the difference. With regards to the workaround proposed in comment #171, thanks a lot for the tip, that version of GVFS solved the problem. However, the best way to implement the workaround is with APT pinning. To do this: 0. Add the Precise repos mentioned in comment #171 1. Create a file called "gvfs-pin" or whatever you want in /etc/apt/preferences.d 2. Edit /etc/apt/preferences/gvfs-pin as follows: Package: gvfs* Pin: release a=precise Pin-Priority: 999 3. sudo apt-get upgrade -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share Status in GVFS: Confirmed Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Problem === Copying files to and from samba shares (this includes Windows shares) is unreliable in Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 13.04 when using nautilus' integrated samba client (gvfs-smb): The copy randomly hangs after a few files or a few GB. Thanks, I figured as much. I'll definitely contact ricotz, but I'd be very happy if anybody had an idea and could point me in the right direction as to where the problem might be. BTW, I've been wondering this a lot lately: is there a possibility to mark bugs directly to packages coming from a ppa? Neither does accessing any of the virtual drives like trash://, computer:// network:// or any smb shares. The graphical error message simply says "action not supported" (although all gvfs-related packages are installed). I'm figuring this has to have something to do with a gvfs error, but purging and reinstalling all gvfs- and nautilus-related packages didn't remedy the situation. Unfortunately, I can't find any gvfs- related logs to provide any error messages (where should I look?). Using nautilus via gdb doesn't show any errors. This is especially a pain in the ass because some programs like Deja Dup seem to rely on gvfs information, so even if I mount my external USB drive manually, Deja Dup will not recognize it and not start the backup. I think this bug started appearing after a recent update from ricotz' testing ppa, but I'm not sure and I'd rather not go through the arduous process of rolling back to the stock packages if there's any other way to fix this. (Interestingly, mounting an external drive manually leads to it showing up in nautilus under the "Computer" category and not under "Devices" as before.) This is especially a pain in the ass because some programs like Deja Dup seem to rely on gvfs information, so even if I mount my external USB drive manually, Deja Dup will not recognize it and not start the backup. I think this bug started appearing after a recent update from ricotz' testing ppa, but I'm not sure and I'd rather not go through the arduous process of rolling back to the stock packages if there's any other way to fix this. Sorry I can't provide any more information right now. If you hint me in the right direction I can probably provide more details.
