[Desktop-packages] [Bug 873678] [NEW] File highlight by typing in Nautilus does not work like before.

2011-10-13 Thread SAURABH GUPTA
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.04 which had Gnome 2.x it was easy to find a file/folder in
a nautilus window by just typing it's name in the window and Nautilus
would highlight the file. If while typing a mistake was done then
BACKSPACE would erase one character and after that typing can resumed
for Nautilus to highlight the correct file/folder as we keep typing it's
name. Also while typing if ESC key is pressed then all the typed letters
were erased and new file could be located by just typing it's name in
the window.

The above functionality is broken in the following manner in Ubuntu 11.10.
1) Typing the name of the file will locate it but if backspace is pressed to
correct any typing error it will take you previous folder which is not supposed
to happen while typing in the Nautilus window.
2) If the user somehow successfully locates the required file by typing it's
name but later wants to locate another file in the same window then ESC key
will not clear the previously typed file/folder name and hence
searching/locating a new file/folder in the same nautilus window cannot be done
unless it's opened again.

This was one of the good features of Nautilus which wasn't available in
many other file browsers on OSes like windows.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Bug description:
When I type in Nautilus to select files by name, often the wrong file

partway through. A screencast is attached.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
  Package: nautilus 1:3.1.92-0ubuntu2
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-11.18-generic 3.0.4
  Uname: Linux 3.0.0-11-generic x86_64
  ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu1
  Architecture: amd64
  Date: Fri Sep 23 12:50:09 2011
  ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus
  InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Beta amd64 (20110413)
  SourcePackage: nautilus
UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-09-23 (0 days ago)

  (from duplicate bug #872090)---
  To reproduce:
On a previous version of ubuntu (Natty, Maverick) open nautilus.
Click in the file and folder area.
Press backspace until you are in the root of the file system.
Type 'e'. 'etc' should be selected. Press enter to open /etc/
Notice the search box disappears and /etc opens.
Type 'uf' 'ufw' should be selected. Notice you did not have to clear out the
'e' you typed into the search last time. Press backspace to clear the character
'f' from the current search, 'uf'. Notice the character 'f' is deleted and that
you are still in /etc/.
Type 'd' and press enter to open /etc/udev.

Now, try the same test on Oneiric:
  On a Oneiric, open nautilus.
Click in the file and folder area.
Press backspace until you are in the root of the file system.
Type 'et'. Notice that the search box disappears after typing the second
letter (Not expected, a bug).
Press enter to open the currently selected /etc.
Type 'ud' and notice that no search comes up (this is a bug).
  Close nautilus and reopen.
Type 'docu' to select documents, press backspace to delete 'u' and press
enter. Notice the search works as expected.
Press backspace to navigate up (this is working normal)
Type 'Public'. Notice search still works as expected. Press enter.
Press backspace until you are in the root of the filesystem.

Apparently, search works properly in the home folder, but not in other
folders!
On my machine, I'm using btrfs with (the installer set up) subvolumes for /
and /home. However, this bug is still the same for root's home folder, which is
only on the / subvolume!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1358770] Re: ubuntu utopic: missing dependency to libvncclient.so.0

2016-02-22 Thread Saurabh Gupta
I have this problem on trusty as well. It happened sometime in last two
weeks because until then Remmina+VNC was working fine. Now Remmina
cannot load plugin remmina-plugin-vnc.so because it cannot find
libvncclient.so

I found that libvncclient was a part of libvncserver0. When I tried to
install libvncserver0 , it was already installed on my PC. Following
some forums, I tried to reinstall libvncserver0 and I got an error
saying that "Reinstallation of libvncserver0 is not possible, it cannot
be downloaded."

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1353353] Re: remmina-plugin-vnc should include libvncclient0 as dependency

2016-02-22 Thread Saurabh Gupta
Removing and reinstalling libvncserver0 fixed this issue for me.

sudo apt-get remove libvncserver0
sudo apt-get install libvncserver0

Also for some reason "sudo apt-get install --reinstall libvncserver0"
did not work for me because it said the package wasn't found. On
removing libvncserver0 first, and then reloading the synaptic I realized
that synaptic showed a slight version difference .

(now showed version libvncserver0_0.9.9+dfsg-1ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb
instead of previously installed version libvncserver0_0.9.9+dfsg-
6ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb ) .

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1358770] Re: ubuntu utopic: missing dependency to libvncclient.so.0

2016-02-22 Thread Saurabh Gupta
Removing and reinstalling libvncserver0 fixed this issue for me.

sudo apt-get remove libvncserver0
sudo apt-get install libvncserver0

Also for some reason "sudo apt-get install --reinstall libvncserver0"
did not work for me because it said the package wasn't found. On
removing libvncserver0 first, and then reloading the synaptic I realized
that synaptic showed a slight version difference .

(now showed version libvncserver0_0.9.9+dfsg-1ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb
instead of previously installed version libvncserver0_0.9.9+dfsg-
6ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb ) .

Title:
ubuntu utopic: missing dependency to libvncclient.so.0

Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  remmina-plugin-vnc is compiled against libvncclient.so.0

there is no package dependency, so I had to install libvncclient0
  manually to solve this problem...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1439478] Re: Copy and Paste not Working in 15.04, 15.10, 16.04

2016-08-25 Thread Saurabh Gupta
I did a quick check. Seems like if text is copied from the remote
computer to the local computer by using a mouse to select the required
text, then the copy-paste functionality does not work.

I tried selecting text on the remote computer using just the keyboard,
and then I was able to successfully copy text from the remote computer
to the local computer.

I tried this around 10-15 of times and it worked each time, whereas
using mouse is very unreliable. Until a fix is released I am going to
use this as a workaround.

I am using Ubuntu 16.04, and I did not install/upgrade Remmina through
any PPAs.

Hope it works for others as well. Thanks !

Title:
Copy and Paste not Working in 15.04, 15.10, 16.04

Status in remmina:
  New
Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Remmina is probably one of the top 3 Linux applications "I need
working right" to efficiently complete my work day.

So, I consider it a critical bug that "copy and pasting" between
"local and remote desktops" is not working in the 15.04 beta 2.

This is one of those things, where if this is not fixed, I will have
to return to Ubuntu 14.04, or figure out a way to install a version of
Remmina that actually works correctly in 15.04.

This bug has reared its ugly head before:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/remmina/+bug/937522

However, the status of that bug seems to be practically closed, so
that's the reason for this new posting. I want to do all I can to get
this bug the attention it needs. Remmina is crucial for my work.

I'm currently dealing with the fact that it crashes a few times a day,
but this "copy and paste not working" is a real deal-breaker for me to
  stay on 15.04.
