[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1064962] Re: [SRU] Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-12-01 Thread Scott Severance
@SRoesgen: The reason this bug has been closed is that the bug described
in the initial report *has* been fixed. What you're describing is a
different bug, as has been pointed out several times already. It makes
no sense to conflate multiple bug reports. Not every problem with the
menus in LibreOffice is due to the same bug or the same cause.

  [IMPACT]

   * there is no menu available in some scenarios of opening LibreOffice
   * makes LibreOffice essentially unusable when opening a docuemnt directly

  [TESTCASE]

   * open a existing file from nautilus - no menu in a unity session

  [Regression Potential]

   * changes are to the menu code integration, possible regressions will be
there
   * package has been available for user testing
https://launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/+archive/libreoffice-quantaltest-20120601
since 2012-10-26 without any reported regressions
   * see comment 74 for realworld enduser testing

  pre-SRU description details:

  1) Have no instance of LibreOffice running
  2) open a document by double-clicking it in nautilus
  3) new window has no menu
  4) unfocusing/refocusing (e.g. by pressing F7 to bring up the spelling
dialog) makes the menu appear

WORKAROUND: minimize and restore the LibreOffice window
(more permanent workaround, disable the global menu by removing the package
libreoffice-gtk).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1082297] [NEW] Wrong permissions when using Save As

2012-11-23 Thread Scott Severance
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
===

1. Download a PDF from the internet.
2. When Firefox asks what to do with the file, choose the option to open it in
Evince.
3. Once the PDF is open in Evince, do a File Save as.
4. Observe that the file is created with the permissions 0400.

Correct behavior:
=

Evince should follow the same permissions model as other programs, using
the umask to determine the default permissions, which would be 0644 on a
default Ubuntu machine.

Impact of the bug:
==

Because of the incorrect permissions, it's impossible to directly
overwrite an affected PDF without manually fixing the permissions. It
makes no sense not to give the owner write permission by default, as any
situations where 0400 permissions were desirable would surely be corner
cases.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045353] Re: Commands are not displayed in the HUD

2012-11-06 Thread Scott Severance
The combination of this and bug 1074528 is deadly. This bug appeared
before the other, but I don't know whether there's any causal
relationship between the two.

At any rate, I currently have no way of accessing the menus in
LibreOffice (via the HUD or otherwise), so I hope this will get fixed
soon.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1074528] Re: Global Menu Disappears When Using LibreOffice Calc

2012-11-06 Thread Scott Severance
I found a workaround: Clear the environment variable UBUNTU_MENUPROXY
using a command similar to the following:

UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= libreoffice

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 734428]

2012-04-18 Thread Scott Severance
Someone commented in the downstream bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/734428/comments/27)
that this is independent of GTK. He reported this bug in KDE with the
GTK packages uninstalled.

Is there anything holding up work on this bug?

Testing shows that removal of only libreoffice-gnome is sufficient to
fix the text color issue. However, removal of that package results in
lost functionality in other areas.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 936618] [NEW] eog crashes on launch

2012-02-19 Thread Scott Severance
Public bug reported:

Every time I try to run eog, it crashes. The type of file I'm trying to
open doesn't matter.

The main window flashes briefly on the screen (for well less than 1s),
then there's a crash.

Normally, the crash is a segmentation fault. I do however have one
instance where the following was printed to the console:

Title:
  eog crashes on launch

Status in “eog” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Every time I try to run eog, it crashes. The type of file I'm trying
  to open doesn't matter.

The main window flashes briefly on the screen (for well less than 1s),
  then there's a crash.

Normally, the crash is a segmentation fault. I do however have one
instance where the following was printed to the console:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923568] Re: Presenter Console extension does nothing

2012-01-31 Thread Scott Severance
I can't test the reboot hypothesis at the moment since I'm traveling and
don't have access to a second monitor. If that's the case, however, I
don't think that setting the reboot flag is the proper solution, though
it's better than nothing. A reboot shouldn't be necessary; the best
thing is to figure out why the installation isn't happening correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 734428] Re: [Upstream] Wrong automatic text color dark grey with black background

2011-12-23 Thread Scott Severance
The proper solution here is to decouple the default text colors from the
GTK theme. As pointed out earlier, an LibO document should look the same
on any computer, provided the requisite fonts are installed.

Since this bug is getting ignored upstream, and since it's particularly
apparent on Ubuntu due to the Ambiance theme, can we go ahead and fix it
here? Upstream users who aren't on Ubuntu likely don't even notice this
bug.

PS: I've given a more detailed explanation here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35365#c15

Title:
File Roller temp files and directories are created in non-optimal
  place

Status in File Roller:
  Unknown
Status in “file-roller” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
File Roller (including the latest version, 3.2.1) uses the ~/.cache directory
for its temporary files directories, e. g.:
  ~/.cache/.fr-a12bc3

It creates these temporary folders with files when a user looks
through the archive and double-clicks on any file inside to view it.

If File Roller exits unexpectedly, these temp files can only be
  removed manually.

As it can be learned from bug #245716, some times ago File Roller was
even more ugly and created its temp directories directly in user home
  directory.

It would be much more effective to use /tmp directory for ALL the temp files
and folders for two reasons:
  1) /tmp directory gets cleaned on every reboot;
  2) some people use tmpfs for /tmp directory, so it can be much faster.
