Touchpad started appearing both as a touchpad and as a mouse input

  Confirmed

Bug description:

2020-05-05 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
After removing xserver-xorg-input-libinput third input device appears, a
'PS/2 Generic Mouse' and both mice become evdev devices so it doesn't
look like a libinput problem.

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-input-libinput (Ubuntu) => xserver-
xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1801103] Re: Kubuntu driver manager fails to install nvidia-prime on hybrid systems and that makes system unusable for unexperienced users

2018-11-01 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
It's not needed for everyone, just for laptops with hybrid nvidia
graphics. With current behavior some perfectly reasonable user actions
render system unusable without CLI knowledge. IMO it's exactly driver
managers' problem and it should not just install a package but make sure
drivers are correctly installed for this system.

Bug description:
  SRU Request:

  [Impact]
Relying on the nouveau driver and on the vga switcheroo (to get around a
change in systemd LP: #1777099) caused increased power consumption, and slowed
down the switching process.

Furthermore, if the main X/Xwayland session was started by Gdm when
the nvidia driver was loaded, the session will keep the nvidia module
loaded, and prevent the system from switching off the dGPU. Also, the
nouveau driver will be loaded, if nvidia is not, and this can cause
  problems to unsupported NVIDIA GPUs.

The solution involves the following changes:

  1) Solving the problem in systemd (LP: #1777099)

  2) Adding code in gpu-manager and in nvidia-prime to unload the nvidia
modules, and to allow the PCI device to sleep.

  3) Making a slight change to the current patch in Gdm, used to call
the PRIME scripts before and after a Gdm session (so that gpu-manager
gets actually called on log out)

  4) Adding code in gpu-manager to kill the main X/Xwayland session on
log out, if the session is preventing us from unloading the nvidia
driver. A new X/Xwayland session will be created after unload the
  module.

  5) Removing the systemd service that loads nouveau from the nvidia
  packages.

  [Test Case]
  1) Enable the -proposed repository, and install the new
"ubuntu-drivers-common", nvidia drivers, nvidia-prime, and gdm3

  2) Make sure the nvidia packages are installed, and enable performance mode
(if it is already enabled, call "sudo prime-select intel" first):
  sudo prime-select nvidia

  3) Restart your computer and attach your /var/log/gpu-manager.log. see
if the system boots correctly. If unsure, please attach your /var/log
  /gpu-manager.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log

  4) Select power saving mode:
  sudo prime-select intel

  5) Log out and log back in

  6) Check if the nvidia driver is still loaded:
  lsmod | grep nvidia

  [Regression Potential]
Low, as hybrid graphics support does not work correctly, and the changes only
affect this use case.

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Firefox in its application .desktop file provides a couple of Desktop
Actions ("jump list actions"), for opening a new tab or a new
incognito tab. Since Plasma 5.6 those actions are also supported by
KDE Plasma and there's no reason these actions should be restricted to
  Unity (OnlyShowIn=Unity).

They are currently shown in Plasma and work just fine as I did not
implement support for OnlyShowIn/NotShowIn in Desktop Actions (which I
didn't see explicitly mentioned in the spec though). For Plasma 5.8
which will have MPRIS controls in the context menu I want to add
support for this to avoid double entries in media players (many abuse
static Desktop Actions for player controls).

However, I don't want to break users relying on the ability to open
new (incognito) tabs through the task bar in Plasma, hence I request
the OnlyShowIn for Firefox desktop actions to be dropped.
(Alternatively "KDE" could be added, but I don't see any reason for
  not enabling them globally).

Drop "Open a " from .desktop Actions

Status in Ubuntu Translations:
  New
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Right-click on Firefox in Unity's Dash (the strip on the left side of the
screen).
There are two custom Actions: "Open a New Window" and "Open a New Private
Window".

I propose that the "Open a " prefix be dropped.

This provides greater consistency with other apps which just use "New
Window" or "New Document" Actions. Examples include epiphany-browser,
  gedit, LibreOffice and Nautilus.

In GNOME Shell, Actions show in the Activities Overview. GNOME Shell
includes a default "New Window" action. So in GNOME Shell, the actions
shown include the duplicate "New Window" and "Open a New Window".
(Note that an explicit "New Window" shortcut does not duplicate the
default "New Window" in GNOME Shell as long as the action is named
  new-window.)

Also, you can drop the OnlyShowIn=Unity; from the Actions since
Actions are supported in other desktops (GNOME Shell currently ignores
  that anyway).

See bug 1668730 for chromium-browser and bug 1668699 for webbrowser-
  app.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1489220] [NEW] Dramatic increase in RAM usage when viewing several videos in a row

2015-08-26 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Public bug reported:

I guess the reason is that Firefox doesn't delete huge cached video
files from already closed pages/history and Linux is still keeping them
in cached-disk RAM which leads to quick plummeting into swap and
overwhelmingly reduced performance.

Steps to reproduce:
View several [long] videos on Vimeo/Youtube in a row.
System starts going into swap after several videos which is really
uncomfortable on a 5400-rpm HDD.
Restart Firefox.
The video that was playing before the restart will easily be played and
everything is okay unless you decide to watch more videos in a row.

The camera freezes while using skype. Also, it's definitely not the

2014-10-28 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
DO NOT INSTALL systemd-sysv unless you absolutely sure you know what you
are doing. It breaks too much on 14.10 at the moment. There is a bunch
of packages that need prerm/postinst script editing to not break dpkg
state without upstart.

Bug description:
After a new install of 64 bit Ubuntu 13.10 on my second partition, I
used dpkg to reinstall all the same packages I had on my 32 bit 13.04
partition. I copied all my home directory files over and updated all
the packages. I now find that I don't have permissions to change the
network settings; I can't mount my other hard drive or any USB stick
using nautilus, or (udisks without using sudo)' I can't run synaptic
  by clicking on the GUI (I have to go to a terminal and sudo synaptic);
etc. I can't find any documentation on the configuration of
policykit-desktop-privileges, so I'm filing this bug. For me it
appears to be totally broken. Maybe someone can help me out.

  Thanks,

  Rob

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 807861] Re: typo in ../src/widgets/toolbox.cpp:4685

2014-10-21 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
This bug is listed on http://harvest.ubuntu.com/opportunities/
But it could have been fixed years ago. Why wasn't the patch sent upstream?
Why wasn't it moved to Ubuntu dev version upon disapproval if current version
was already released?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1120915] Re: Inkscape shorcuts don't work at all in KDE

2013-02-11 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Okay, I've found how to reproduce it:
1. systemsettings -> Input Devices -> Layouts -> Configure layouts
2. Add Ukrainian and English layouts.
3. Place Ukrainian layout above English.
4. Now launch Inkscape. Keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+S) don't work.
5. Now Ukrainian layout below English and restart Inkscape - everything is fine.

** Summary changed:

- Inkscape shorcuts don't work at all in KDE
+ Inkscape keyboard shorcuts don't work in KDE when non-english layout is above
english in settings

** Changed in: inkscape (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

2012-12-18 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Personally, I don't mind Firefox using /tmp. It just shouldn't freeze.

Title:
Firefox hangs while moving already downloaded part of the file to
selected destination if it was just mounted on selection.

Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser:
  New
Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  0. Set
browser.download.useDownloadDir = false
browser.download.lastDir = /media/unmounted/partition
  1. Unmount the partition.
  2. Start downloading a big file (several GiBs) from a server that gives
several MiBs per second.
  3. Mount the partition in the file selection dialog and select a directory on
it as destination.

Then firefox freezes completely for some time. AFAIU it starts
downloading somewhere ( /tmp ?) and then moves already downloaded part
of the file to a new destination.
