[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892348] [NEW] cups samba authetication dialog closes too early

2020-08-20 Thread Stefan Helmert
Public bug reported:

Using network printers with samba authentication on Ubuntu 20.04 the
authentication dialog is shown only a very short time and closes
unexpectedly. But authentication works with noninteractive
authentication using specifying username and password as part of the
samba address.

The interactive authentication dialog worked in Ubuntu 18.04 correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1840508] [NEW] eog crashes if new files are written to the directory it is reading from

2019-08-16 Thread Stefan Helmert
Public bug reported:

If eog is called to read a png file from a directory like:

eog mydirectory/picture.png

while new png images are frequently added to this directory, eog crashes
with random errors, e. g.:

(eog:4447): GLib-WARNING **: 00:00:37.123: Accessing a sequence while it is
being sorted or searched is not allowed

(eog:4447): GLib-WARNING **: 00:00:37.124: Accessing a sequence while it is
being sorted or searched is not allowed
malloc(): memory corruption
Aborted (core dumped)

This happens only if the files are written to the same directory. If the files
are written to different directories, it opens it without error.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768633] Re: desktop or window fallen over after standby

2018-05-27 Thread Stefan Helmert
tried now nvidia 396.24, got simmilar problems

I think it does not depend on nvidia drivers. The internal display ist
connected to intel graphics. Switching nvidia gpu off does not change
anything.

This happens also on newer versions: 52.4.0 (64-bit) There are a lot of
windows of this kind opening again and again.

Title:
thunderbird security exception is not permanently stored

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

I have an IMAP server with a TLS cert signed by cacert.org, but
thunderbird does not know about this CA by default, so it comes up
with a dialog box asking me to add a security exception. I check the
checkbox "Permanently store this exception", and click the "Confirm
Security Exception" button. Immediately after confirming the
exception, I am presented with the dialog box again. I have done this
cycle atleast 15 times already. There is no time for me to interact
with the rest of the GUI between "confirming" the exception and being
presented with the dialog again. I have tried not checking the
checkbox in case of inverted logic, but that doesn't solve the problem
  either.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1704600] [NEW] network-manager stucks if 127.0.1.1:53 is in use

2017-07-15 Thread Stefan Helmert
Public bug reported:

If a process binds 127.0.1.1:53 and the network-manager ist started, it
tries to use this port (dnsmasq). It waits until the port is available.
That means no interaction with the network-manager is possible. So
unity-control-center stucks if "Network" is clicked or the nm-applet
does not respond if the user tries to change connection settings.

I think there should be a message that explains the problem: "network-
manager tries to set up dnsmasq on 127.0.1.1:53, but this port is
already in use. Retrying ..." and the associated GUI components should
stay responsive, but only the blocked options should be shown as blocked
by the problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1704559] Re: often no wifi connections shown

2017-07-15 Thread Stefan Helmert
This may be a security problem, because also the currently running
connection is also not shown/named. It looks like wifi is inactive, but
the computer may be connected to an insecure, unencrypted or fishy
network without user knowledge.

** Summary changed:

- often now wifi connections shown
+ often no wifi connections shown

** Information type changed from Public to Public Security

Title:
nm-applet shows no connections (cannot control Network Manager)

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
From the 2/19/06 upgrade of the network-manager and nm-applet
packages, nm-applet no longer shows any network connections. It only
shows the "wired network disconnected" icon and left-clicking it shows
the grayed out "Wired Network" option and nothing else. The wireless
network still seems to be initialized by Network Manager, I just have
no control over it via nm-applet. I have tried removing nm-applet and
network-manager and reinstalling them, but the same thing happens.

Open up a Nautilus window, right-click on any file, and select "Open

item for Brasero will be shown five times among other applications, in

It should be only one item, I suppose.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1688931] [NEW] color calibration implemented wrong for Lenovo W520, 428449G

2017-05-06 Thread Stefan Helmert
Public bug reported:

In my Lenovo W520 detected as 428449G on Ubuntu 16.04.2 (x86_64) the
color calibration is implemented wrong. It shows a little colored field
in the center of the screen, where the calibrator should be hold on.
This is not applicable for this correctly detected notebook. It has an
integrated calibrator.

The correct behavior should be: The calibration program should say:
"Close the notebook lid, please." After closing the lid, the hole screen
should show the same color for calibration, applying all the calibration
colors. While the calibration process is in progress, the calibrate led
on the outer side of the lid should blink. When the calibration process
is ready, it should stop blinking and be illuminated until the lid is
opened.

(This is like the original Windows Pantone color calibrator works.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687502] [NEW] "Show all application" requires multiple double clicks if list is empty

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687478] [NEW] "properties" -> "open with" - defective statemachine

2017-05-01 Thread Stefan Helmert
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.04.2: The statemachine of the "Open With" dialogue in is
defective. To open this dialogue reightclick a file, click "properties"
and select "Open With" tab.

The behaviour of the button "Set as default" is correct. After clicking
that button, the behaviour of the "Add" button is also correct.

But clicking only the button "Add" after opening the dialogue without
click "Set as default", it shows the wrong behavior. Clicking "add" does
always the same like clicking "Set as Default". Clicking "Set as
default" one time repairs that behavior.

Why that? There are two problems.

Clicking "Add" does have the behaviour like clicking "Set as default" to
have one "Default Application" set, if no "Default Application" is set.
That is correct.

1st problem: This dialogue starts in state believing no default
application is set. But the already set default application is listed as
"Default Application". That means, clicking "Add" does the same like
"Set as default", when it should not.

2nd related problem: Clicking "Add" to set the "Default Application" the
first time, does not set the state that the "Default Application" is set
like clicking "Set as default" does. So the 1st problem is repeated.
