[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1747527] Re: High CPU Usage under Plasma
Can confirm the same on Firefox 78.0.2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1747527 Title: High CPU Usage under Plasma Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since Firefox was updated to version 58.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (xenial-updates), I noticed a consistent high CPU usage while Firefox was running under plasma (both by firefox and plasmashell processes). After a little inquiry, I tend to believe this is due to a global menu protocol compatibility issue (I use Plasma 5.12/Neon with global menu bar enabled). Facts that led me to that conclusion: 1 - Since Firefox 58 (xenial-updates, obviously patched for Unity global menu), Plasma's menu bar now displays a (surprisingly working) menu for Firefox. Previous implementations did not work at all (menus would show but not open when clicked). 2 - With current Firefox (xenial-updates), either disabling the global menu in Plasma, or disabling it in Firefox (setting ui.use_unity_menubar=false in about:config), makes CPU usage go down to normal levels. 3 - Before, I had been using Firefox 58beta (from webupd8 repository), which did not have this CPU issue... but no global menu either. Also, FYI: - A few months ago (until it was fixed), similar behaviour was exhibited by other pieces of software such as visual-studio-code and atom editor (both based on electron framework). They would hog a full CPU core, as long as they attempted to work with Plasma's global menu, but behave normally when global menu was disabled (either in plasma or in the incriminated editor). This latter fact proves it is possible for a piece of software to be compatible with both global menu implementations. Current status of Firefox in Ubuntu is actually very encouraging, as the global menu is now fully working even in Plasma. There only remains this CPU issue. Although Canonical does not officially endorse any KDE flavor of Ubuntu anymore, it would be much appreciated by Kubuntu and Neon users if this remaining little issue could be fixed! When I had 13.10, my wifi worked without a problem, but once I erased it and installed 14.04, wifi will not connect after suspend. Ethernet works fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1164953] [NEW] Pop-up menus stop working after a while
Public bug reported: After surfing for a while, the pop-up menus from clicking on extension icons in the icon bar and right-click menus do not open anymore. When I click on such an icon or want to open the right-click context menu, only an empty frame is briefly drawn on screen but immediatly disappears, again. I could NOT reproduce with identical upstream Aurora builds, so I presume it is something special to the Ubuntu Aurora builds, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=840378 Uninstalling the globalmenu extension (and also running with all extensions disabled) still causes the issue to happen. but also has the menu of firefox still integrated into my KDE menu (behind a button in the title bar). I am experiencing a similar issue on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS with KDE 4.10 installed and Firefox 20.0a2 (2013-02-10) (Aurora). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 995715] Re: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution if a Logitech Unifying Receiver is plugged in
Is the underlzing issue, namely relying on HAL the same as #995380? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995715 Title: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution if a Logitech Unifying Receiver is plugged in Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading Kubuntu Oneiric to Precise, X locale is defaulted to en_US regardless of system-wide and user-specific options. I found out about this issue when I tried to login via the KDM greeter and it was not recognizing my password. I got pam authentication failures in the auth.log, but authorizations files were just fine. In fact, I could login from the console and within KDE itself. When I tried typing into the KDM username box, I found out that special characters were not corresponding to my it_IT layout. My password was including the special character @ that was typed as ; thus not accepting my password. I worked this around by changing password to not include any special character. I installed LightDM and the problem persisted, so I thought about an evdev bug. I posted this issue on the Kubuntu Forums at first, where you can find more information and logs [ http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?58623-Can-t-login-via-KDM- after-upgrading-to-Precise ]. Recently, German users were experiencing the same problem [ http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/kein-login-in-kdm-nach-upgrade/ ] where I found out that the only thing in common is a wireless keyboard. I bought a Logitech K800 (which uses a Unifying Receiver) when I was running Oneiric, making this the first time I upgraded a distribution while a wireless keyboard is connected. If that happens to be the problem, it could mean that my keyboard locale was not recognized during the upgrade process. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 995380] Re: X keyboard layout behavior changed after upgrade to Precise Pangolin
For me the issue was lightdm / unity-greeter not respecting /etc/default/keyboard, but using ~/.dmrc instead. That contained a wrong (old) keyboard layout. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995380 Title: X keyboard layout behavior changed after upgrade to Precise Pangolin Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04, X keyboard layout behavior has changed for systems that use an Xorg config file. I have one system where I need to have such a config file (due to an odd display that needs a modeline), and in 11.10 the X keyboard layout was defined by /etc/default/keyboard. After upgrade, the layout set there (no) seems to be ignored, and a US keymap is used instead. As a workaround, setxkbmap does work. Behavior is correct on system that don't use an Xorg config file. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 578012] Re: NetworkManager fails to manage eth0 even though iface eth0 is not defined in /e/n/i -- r8169
Thanks for looking into this! This is two years back, but I believe I filed the bug report after an upgrade. In the meantime, I have updated the box to 12.04 LTS. Will see if the problem persits (and how if so) and send updates, here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578012 Title: NetworkManager fails to manage eth0 even though iface eth0 is not defined in /e/n/i -- r8169 Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: network-manager Since 2010-05-09, my wired ethernet is suddenly unmanaged with the KDE network manager applet hover text is Unmanaged (Unverwaltet in German) and clicking on it shows only grey text Network management disabled (Netzwerkverwaltung deaktiviert.). I can still get an IP manually through sudo dhclient eth0. Strange thing is that Auto eth0 was gone already 2010-05-08, and I had to manually re-add a DHCP wired connection. But as of now, even this does not help. I have attached a recent copy of the daemon.log.
