Title:
Google Online Account Two Factor with hardware key fails immediately

Status in gnome-online-accounts:

Status in Webkit:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-online-accounts package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
The hardware key authentication two factor fails immediately with a
web based retry dialogue when connecting a Google account to the
online accounts in settings using a hardware key second factor.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Set Google Account to default to a hardware security key like a Yubikey or
other FIDO standard key after having two factor authentication enabled on your
Google Account.
  2. Open Online accounts
  3. Add a Google Account
  4. Enter google email address
  5. Enter google password
  6. (this is the login flow of two factor, if default is the hardware key the
error should appear).

  Work around:
Choose use another method to authenticate: enter the authentication code and
you will proceed.

  Expectations were:
The ability to use the hardware key to authenticate as the second factor.

2020-04-29 Thread Steven Jay Cohen
Please see the attached image. The 2 files immediately after the folder
were not created or edited today. Also, as I type this, it isn't even
10am, but you see that the archive's date of 5:46PM is incorrectly
sorted.

** Attachment added: "The two files immediately under the folder were NOT
created or opened for the past few days, but they still appear before other
more recent files."

Changing between DEFAULT, LEGACY, and EMPTY has no affect on attempts
to connect to accounts through Online Accounts.

Changing to LEGACY or EMPTY should at least change the following
  error:

Error performing TLS handshake: The Diffie-Hellman prime sent by the
server is not acceptable (not long enough).

Under either LEGACY or EMPTY the (not long enough) error is
nonsensical. The persistence of the incorrect error message could
imply that gnome-online-accounts is not respecting settings made by
  crypto-policies.

This could be fixed by a design choice in Yaru to style differently.
Yes, you're right, for other themes the decision can be made upstream.
But, the way CSS works, Yaru could have this fixed with a few lines of
CSS.

I'd like to suggest that you don't fix it by moving the dot but by
replacing the dot with a treatment of the text (bold, underline,
italics, color) because that fix would never break due to resolution.

  ~/.config/goa-1.0/accounts.conf has a field called
PresentationIdentity. When setting up a Google Account for example,
that field gets set to the email address. This field is used in places
like Nautilus to show which accounts something is connected to. If the
addresses are similar (and long) this can be a bit confusing.

  Example:

  johnjacobjingleheilmerschm...@gmail.com
  johnjacob...@school.edu

If there were an option in the GUI to set the name (to Gmail and
School in this example), there would be less confusion in places like
  Nautilus.

  Visual Example:

  __|
  johnjacobj|
  johnjacobj|
  __|

  Becomes:

  __|
  Gmail |
 School |

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873247] [NEW] snaps, flatpacks, and debs belong in a single entry

2020-04-16 Thread Steven Jay Cohen
Public bug reported:

Open gnome-software and search for darktable (or any package that exists
as a snap, a deb, and a flatpack).

You will find 2 entries for darktable in the list. One entry bundles the
deb and the flatpack, letting you choose one from a drop down menu. The
other entry lists the snap, alone.

If the functionality already exists to bundle menu entries, then snaps
should take advantage of it.

In cases where the list is long (search Zoom as an example), one entry
may be at the top and the other only visible if you scroll down quite a
way.

Not bundling all options into a single entry obfuscates choice and
reduces clarity/findability.

** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1872980] [NEW] Add field for PresentationIdentity in Online Accounts GUI

2020-04-15 Thread Steven Jay Cohen
Public bug reported:

Version: focal,now 3.36.0-1ubuntu1 amd64

~/.config/goa-1.0/accounts.conf has a field called PresentationIdentity.
When setting up a Google Account for example, that field gets set to the
email address. This field is used in places like Nautilus to show which
accounts something is connected to. If the addresses are similar (and
long) this can be a bit confusing.

Example:

johnjacobjingleheilmerschm...@gmail.com
johnjacob...@school.edu

If there were an option in the GUI to set the name (to Gmail and School
in this example), there would be less confusion in places like Nautilus.

Visual Example:

__|
johnjacobj|
johnjacobj|
__|

Becomes:

__|
Gmail |
   School |
__|

** Affects: gnome-online-accounts (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Showing my Nautilus after editing accounts.conf"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1872778] Re: update-crypto-policies not affecting Gnome Online Accounts

2020-04-14 Thread Steven Jay Cohen
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter
the problem.

a. Go to Gnome Online Accounts and add a Google Apps Account (in my case
nyu.edu)
b. After entering the email address see the following error:
Error performing TLS handshake: The Diffie-Hellman prime sent by the server is
not acceptable (not long enough).
c. Use update-crypto-policies to change setting to LEGACY and EMPTY then
repeating step A
d. Attempted the connection again.

2. The behavior you expected.

I would have expected to be able to connect under LEGACY or EMPTY. Or,
alternatively, I would have expected a different error message (since by
definition LEGACY would have accepted the shorter prime and EMPTY
wouldn't have needed it).

3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as
possible).

See that the error message still talks about "not long enough" in all 3
cases.

If you check the duplicate cases you will see that as of 20.04
connections are failing because of weak crypto. The only workaround is
to tell the local system to lower its standards (LEGACY or NONE) until
the people running the server get their act together.

But, since the error message remains constant, even when the setting has
been changed, it looks like the mechanism running Online Accounts might
not be referencing the setting like it should.

Now, it could just as likely be a poorly worded error message.

Sorry for pushing on this yet again, but since using the LEGACY setting
does not resolve the issue, could the real bug possibly be that Online
Accounts are not respecting that setting (which would be a big deal)?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1872684] [NEW] Orange Dot (running application) wrong location

2020-04-14 Thread Steven Jay Cohen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1872275 ***

Public bug reported:

gnome-shell/focal,now 3.36.1-4ubuntu1 amd64

If fixing the location is an issue, might I suggest re-styling the name
of the application instead of adding the dot? I do understand that you
are trying to have consistency with the dash/dock indicator, but it
doesn't really "read" that way in this view anyway. Bolding the text of
a running app would actually be easier on your end and do the job
better.

Thank you for the testing link.

https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=shibboleth.nyu.edu=on

This server supports weak Diffie-Hellman (DH) key exchange parameters.
This server does not support Forward Secrecy with the reference browsers.
This server supports TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1.

So, you are saying that unless the University upgrades on their end, I
cannot connect from 20.04, correct?

My University Account (NYU) uses Shibboleth. I was able to add that
account to Online Accounts in 19.10 but it fails with this error in

Are you saying that the minimal level of crypto changed between 19.10

Bug description:
After upgrade to 20.04 package libgnutls30 broke pulseUI VPN client
  with the following error:

"Error performing TLS handshake: The Diffie-Hellman prime sent by the

I had to revert the package to the 19.10 version (3.6.9-5ubuntu1) and
to install 19.10 dependency libhogweed4 3.4.1-1 to fix it.

Bug description:
I can no longer connect to my ISP mail server.
  Works in previous version 19.10

"The reported error was “Failed to get capabilities: Error performing
TLS handshake: The Diffie-Hellman prime sent by the server is not
  acceptable (not long enough).”."

I've tried finding a workaround but so far no luck.
