[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1433165] Re: evince fails to run due to a gdk_mir_display_open

2015-03-21 Thread Swarnendu Biswas
Hi Seth,

I have my home under /home/, it is just on a different partition. I face
the same issue with evince.

Executing sudo dpkg-reconfigure apparmor does not solve the problem for
me. I passed /home/ and /home/user/ but it doesn't work. Any
suggestions?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1433165] Re: evince fails to run due to a gdk_mir_display_open

2015-03-21 Thread Swarnendu Biswas
A very crude workaround that I tried is to disable the apparmor profile
evnice, similar to firefox and issuing

sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince.

Obviously evince works now, but this is far from satisfactory.

Bug description:
When I use the Adwaita theme, some widgets end up being drawn with a
black background after particular interactions. Here are two examples:

If I open gedit, by default I see a new black document. The notebook
widget is visible, and rendered correctly. As soon as I open another
document (no matter if I close the existing one first), the entire
widget starts being drawn with a black background.

If I open System Settings, then click the (Ubuntu) Online Accounts
panel, the box with the Remove account button has a solid black
background. If, instead, I open Online Accounts directly from its
launcher (run gnome-control-center credentials), everything is
rendered correctly: there are no solid black backgrounds until I click
All Settings and select the Online Accounts panel again.

This has been happening consistently on two very different machines,
both updated to Quantal from 12.04 using the upgrade tool.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1250532] Re: Very Slow to Show Properties of a File (window dims out)

2013-12-01 Thread Swarnendu Biswas
Hi Lonnie and Rob,

I am also facing the same issue. Interestingly, this issue is not
reproducible with other file managers such as nemo. The lag for me is
even more, of the order of a couple of minutes.

On a separate note, I have found that nautilus freezes randomly and
crashes, it takes time to recover.

I am using Ubuntu 13.10, and Gnome 3.10.x.

When I right lick on a file, in Nautilus, and then click properties,

It doesn't matter if the file is small or large; it takes about 10
seconds before the properties are displayed, and the Nautilus window
  becomes dim during the wait.

I've noticed this behavior since upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10,
and have never experienced it prior (using the exact same hardware).

dbench says my solid state hard drive's speed is over 400 MB/sec
