[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1818749] Re: `ubuntu-drivers install --gpgpu` could have more informative error messages

2020-12-07 Thread Thiago Martins
I totally agree with this!

The Additional Drivers doesn't work if your Netplan uses rendered:
networked.

Then, the command line is useless too... How does it work?

2019-03-29 Thread Thiago Martins
I'll maintain the following repo:

...until Ubuntu fixes it in an LTS version, maybe 20.04? That's okay...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1817225] Re: 18.04.2 breaks xrdp

2019-03-29 Thread Thiago Martins
So, there is a need to rebuild xrdp against HWE 18.04.

Maybe Ubuntu should provide a new binary package, let's say "xrdp-
hwe-18.04"

For now, I've recompiled the same xrdp from Ubuntu 18.04, on Ubuntu
18.04.2 and uploaded to my "XRP PPA", here:

https://launchpad.net/~martinx/+archive/ubuntu/xrdp-hwe-18.04

To enjoy xrdp on Ubuntu 18.04 with HWE, just do:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:martinx/xrdp-hwe-18.04
sudo apt install xrdp xorgxrdp

;-)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617026] Re: E-Mail got stucked on outbox and it doesn't appear on that folder as well

2016-09-12 Thread Thiago Martins
Hey guys,

How can I workaround this situation?

Every time I click on "send & receive", I see the following yellow error
message on Evolution:

"Error while Sending message.
One or more recipients are invalid."

But there is not a single message in my Outbox folder to delete and get
rid of this.

I appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Thiago

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1617026] [NEW] E-Mail got stucked on outbox and it doesn't appear on that folder as well

2016-08-25 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Here is the problem...

There is an broken e-mail inside of Outbox but, first, it doesn't show
up on the list, second, it is impossible to get rid of it!

Steps to reproduce:

1- Try to write an e-mail to:

 John Doe <'j...@bla.com'>

NOTE: the single quotes is what triggers this bug! The correct would be
"John Doe ", which works.

 Write something on body...

2- Click on "Send", BOOM! Hit the bug.

This e-mail will get stuck forever somewhere inside of Evolution... I
can't find a way to remove it.

Cheers!
Thiago

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1557612] Re: evolution: e-data-server Error opening directory '/usr/lib/evolution-data-server/credential-modules'

2016-03-24 Thread Thiago Martins
I'm facing this problem too... But I am unable to install the package,
look:

---
$ sudo apt install evolution-data-server-online-accounts
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  mir-client-platform-mesa4 mir-graphics-drivers-desktop
mir-platform-graphics-mesa-kms8 mir-platform-graphics-mesa-x8
mir-platform-input-evdev5 qtubuntu-desktop
  ubuntu-application-api3-desktop
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  address-book-service address-book-updater buteo-sync-plugins-contacts-google
qtcontact5-galera qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-telephony0.1 unity8
unity8-desktop-session-mir
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  evolution-data-server-online-accounts
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 7 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
Need to get 33.6 kB of archives.
After this operation, 9,486 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] ^C
---

It tries to uninstall Unity8, which I'm experimenting / using now.

 So, what to do?

Thiago

Maybe you need to add "Depends: evolution-data-server-online-accounts (>=

  or remove the new depency.

IPv6 static default route added incorrectly by network-manager

Status in NetworkManager:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The relevant part of the IPv6 routing table looks like this:

  fe80::/64 dev wlan0  proto kernel  metric 256

default via fe80::5054:ff:fe9c:741e dev wlan0 proto kernel metric 1024
expires 8sec
default via fe80::5054:ff:fe64:aad0 dev wlan0 proto kernel metric 1024
expires 10sec

I believe the proto static metric 1 route is an error, since it
persists even when the router stops advertising. This breaks the IPv6
  architecture for router redundancy.

I am in control of this network and can alter router advertisement
  parameters if needed.

Bug description:
  Guys,

I just installed Ubuntu 15.04 on a brand new Dell E7440 Laptop and
Network Manager disable the Router Advertisement for my IPv6
  connection!

My connection settings for both wired and WiFi have:

  Edit Connection -> Edit Settings -> IPv6 Settings -> Method =
  Automatic

  But, take a look:

  ---
  root@ultra:~# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/accept_ra
  0
  root@ultra:~# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/eth0/accept_ra

So, my IPv6 connection doesn't work. I need to manually re-enable it,
  by running:

  ---
  echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/accept_ra
  ---

Then, my IPv6 works again! Everytime I reconnect to a network, I need
to "echo 1 > accept_ra" again... Very annoying.

  Please, help!

  Thanks in advance...

  Cheers!

2015-05-17 Thread Thiago Martins
Something is still weird...

I created the following NM hook:

---
root@ultra:~# cat /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/pre-up.d/01ipv6ra
#! /bin/sh

echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/accept_ra
echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/eth0/accept_ra
---

But, IPv6 still doesn't work, even after a few reboots...:-/

Other devices of this very same network, have IPv6 working like a
charm... But Ubuntu 15.04 doesn't... Sometimes, it works, it is
random...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1445263] Re: PPP based VPN doesn't work after today's (04/16) upgrade!

2015-04-16 Thread Thiago Martins
Guys,

I just download the following file:

http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/p/ppp/ppp_2.4.6-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb

And had installed it using `dpkg -i ppp_2.4.6-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb` but,
still doesn't work...

Where can I download the previous package?

The output from forticlientsslvpn_cli looks like this:

---
STATUS::Login succeed
STATUS::Starting PPPd
STATUS::Initializing tunnel
STATUS::Connecting to server
STATUS::Connected
Press Ctrl-C to quit
STATUS::Tunnel running
STATUS::Stopping tunnel
STATUS::Tunnel closed
---

Please, help!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1365752] Re: ubuntu-desktop depends on iBus, which is totally broken

2015-02-19 Thread Thiago Martins
I would like to know why, WHY, for God's sake, that Ubuntu depends on
this totally broken iBus?

Sabotage? I'm starting to believe on this conspiracy theory... :-/

What else can be?!

I'm glad that we still have a choice to remove iBus and use another
solution, like scim, for example...

Out of topic but, can you guys imagine when this systemd-thing starts to
break everything and we have no choice? Crazy times... ;-(

Status in unity-control-center package in Baltix:

Bug description:
Upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 the package iBus has been
installed in the system and activated by default. This has caused an
amount of pain because it has completely broken the input method
(symptoms: no en-uk keyboard available composite not working, backtick
  to be pressed twice). The problems are reported in a number of places;
I've read somewhere I can't remember that Unity has some form of
workaround against ibus but I don't use Unity (using Awesome on some
systems, lubuntu on another one) and other windows managers are
  affected.

Even disabling ibus (which has to be done via gnome-language-selector,
instead of the keyboard panel in gnome-control-center, which is an
usability problem that deserves its own bug report) the ibus processes
keep on running. Probably this has no consequence but still there is
no reason to have unwanted running processes. I have no idea where do
these processes start, but I clearly have the idea that they shouldn't
  be running where not necessary.

Uninstalling ibus is not straightforward because the ubuntu-desktop
package depends on it. The dependency the core package ubuntu-desktop
on ibus is excessive for a package that is 1) unneeded by many users
and 2) broken for many users.

The best solution to date is to:

  ibus exit
  sudo mv /usr/lib/ibus{,.bak}
  sudo mv /usr/bin/ibus{,.bak}

Please remove the dependency of ubuntu-desktop on ibus and avoid
  installing it for european languages.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1307648] Re: chromium-browser does not accept keyboard input with iBus

2015-02-18 Thread Thiago Martins
I'm trying to use Google Chrome 40.0.2214.111-1 in Ubuntu 15.04 (Unity),
two, three times in a week, out of nothing, it is impossible to type
within Chrome's window.

I need to close chrome and reopen it, until this problem appear again.

I still did not tried to restart ibus, I'll try it next time.

This problem does NOT appear when using Enlightenment DR19.

Problem NOT fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1101825] Re: IPv6 static default route added incorrectly by network-manager

2015-01-11 Thread Thiago Martins
Hey guys!

This problem still exists on Ubuntu Vivid!

Come on! Ubuntu Desktop is near useless on a network with IPv6 + SLAAC
with Routers in H.A. When the main router dies, the slave router becomes
active (radvd) but, all Ubuntu Desktops (Gnome / Unity) doesn't see the
new IPv6 router. While Windows, Mac, Ubuntu Servers (without NM) and
Enlightenment DE with Econnman are working as expected.

Please, fix this! Maybe it is time to bring Network Manager 1.0 to
Ubuntu.

Right now, on my personal machine, I removed network-manager packages
and I'm configuring my IPv6 network directly on /etc/network/interfaces,
since NM is useless on an IPv6 + SLAAC network with routers in H.A..

Also, my laptop have Econnman, from Enlightenment project. It works
like a charm! But it doesn't have support for proxy settings, then, I'm
stucked with manual config.:-/

Thanks,
Thiago

Title:
IPv6 static default route added incorrectly by network-manager

Status in NetworkManager:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The relevant part of the IPv6 routing table looks like this:

  fe80::/64 dev wlan0  proto kernel  metric 256
default via fe80::5054:ff:fe64:aad0 dev wlan0 proto static metric 1
default via fe80::5054:ff:fe9c:741e dev wlan0 proto kernel metric 1024
expires 8sec
default via fe80::5054:ff:fe64:aad0 dev wlan0 proto kernel metric 1024
expires 10sec

I believe the proto static metric 1 route is an error, since it
persists even when the router stops advertising. This breaks the IPv6
  architecture for router redundancy.

I am in control of this network and can alter router advertisement
  parameters if needed.

2014-12-29 Thread Thiago Martins
Hi dino99!

You was right, upgrading my kernel do 3.18 did not helped...

Nevertheless, I disabled the Chromium option couple days ago:

[ ] Use hardware acceleration when available

...and I'm running it for about two days without a single crash! Hope it
remains stable from now on...

Cheers!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1355588] Re: Failed to initialize command buffer

2014-12-23 Thread Thiago Martins
Hey guys!

It is impossible to use Google Chrome, Chromium or Opera Stable, with
Ubuntu 14.10 (64-bit). All the three browsers crashes 10 times per day,
same problems.

I just recorded a video while it is crashing, take a look:

http://youtu.be/M0f4CjCuCvg

It might be related to this:

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=381732

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=415928 - Merged
into 381732

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/42110

I'm about to manually backport Linux 3.18 from Vivid, into Utopic, to see if it
fixes the problem. If it doesn't, I'll try to downgrade it to Chromium 37.

Also, it doesn't matter if I'm running it within Unity, Gnome or
Enlightenment DR19, it ALWAYS crashes while browsing the Web.

This problem is very annoying! It is affecting my day job in a very bad
way.

Please, let me know if the problem I'm seeing is the same of #1355588,
otherwise, I'll fill another bug report.

Best,
Thiago

Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  ## Issue

  - mouse pointer doesn't move with two fingers pressed (although right-
  click is registered)

  - cannot right-click 'n' drag with two-finger mouse button 2 emulation

  - can't access context menus with right-click drag because mouse
  pointer doesn't move

  ## Environment

  - bcm5974-based touchpad

  - Unity, Window Maker, and Xfce are all affected

  ## Further information

Attached is the syslog after enabling debugging in the bcm5974 driver,
and two-finger pressing and moving the two fingers around on the
trackpad. Notice that the driver registered movement (Y: and X:
values change with n:2, or two fingers down), but the pointer was not
  moving on the screen.

  Steps used:

  sudo echo -n 9 /sys/module/bcm5974/parameters/debug
  sudo logger begin two-finger test
[move fingers around with two-fingers pressed]
  sudo logger end two-finger test

It is unbelievable that this problem was already fixed in `gnome-bugs

This is very, very annoying.

Please guys, do something about this.

Thanks in advance.

I believe the proto static metric 1 route is an error, since it
persists even when the router stops advertising. This breaks the IPv6
  architecture for router redundancy.

I am in control of this network and can alter router advertisement
  parameters if needed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1101825] Re: IPv6 static default route added incorrectly by network-manager

2014-08-21 Thread Thiago Martins
Guys,

This BUG is still present on Ubuntu 14.04.1, look:

---
user@desk-1:~$ ip -6 route
2001:129X:2bX:Xfff::/64 dev wlan0  proto kernel  metric 256  expires 85937sec
fe80::/64 dev wlan0  proto kernel  metric 256
default via fe80:::b3ff:fe4b:20f4 dev wlan0 proto static metric 1#
WRONG!!
default via fe80:::b3ff:fe4b:20f4 dev wlan0 proto ra metric 1024 expires
1337sec
---

The first default line is definitely wrong. It remains there even
after a disabled RA daemon (like in a H.A. for IPv6), which breaks the
IPv6 architecture for router redundancy - as OP said.

Trusty needs to be patched ASAP!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 936712] Re: NetworkManager should put IPv6 DNS servers before IPv4 DNS servers in dnsmasq configuration (and possibly resolv.conf)

2014-03-26 Thread Thiago Martins
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 and IPv4 nameservers have prevalence over IPv6
nameservers!

Workaround is to configure under:

1- click on WiFi Icon;
2- Edit Connections;
4- go to IPv4 Settings;
5- choose Automatic (DHCP) addresses only;

This way, my /etc/resolv.conf gets only the IPv6 nameservers, like this:

--
nameserver 2620:0:ccc::2
nameserver 2620:0:ccd::2
--

This works for my since I don;t care anymore about IPv4 networks.

But this is a big problem for dual-stacked environments!

Best,
Thiago

Title:
NetworkManager should put IPv6 DNS servers before IPv4 DNS servers in
  dnsmasq configuration (and possibly resolv.conf)

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
In cases where you are indeed on a dual-stack network and received DNS
information from either SLAAC or DHCPv6, these should be used before
any equivalent IPv4 data (usually a fallback/compatibility layer in
  such environment).

As an example, here's my generated /run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf on an up to date
12.04 system:
  server=172.17.20.30
  server=172.17.25.30
  server=172.16.20.32
  server=2001:470:c364:1020:e084:d1ff:fe38:c4f5
  server=2001:470:c364:1025:8837:98ff:fe43:90e6
  server=2001:470:b4e9:1020:218:51ff:fe5a:9949

The result is that dnsmasq will only use the IPv6 dns servers if all 3 IPv4
dns servers are marked as failed.

As dnsmasq is perfectly able to detect and avoid broken DNS servers,
favoritizing IPv6 servers shouldn't cause any damage even in
environment where the information received by NM is wrong.

BTW, I also disabled local dnsmasq entirely (Ubuntu Desktop 14.04), by
removing it from /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf configuration
file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1251873] Re: X crashes back to login screen when running firefox, chrome, etc.

2013-11-30 Thread Thiago Martins
I have the same error at intel_set_mode+0x25/0x30 [i915]. X won't always
come back to login screen, but screen turns black and every X client
dies.

I can reproduce it consistently by triggering resolution changes.
Important information: I am using kde with kwin as window manager (this
appears to be OP's case as well, since his InstallationMedia is listed
as Kubuntu 12.04).

password would be, I get the insertion icon for entering text. But I
still don't see the actual grey screen with the white bar to enter my
  password.

I tried entering my password upon getting the insertion cursor when
getting to the place where the white area would be to enter my
password. I enter it, but all I still see is black. Obviously this is
a bug, as I'm using a developmental version, 11.04, of Ubuntu, however
I thought I should let the problem be known in the hopes and prayers
that someone from the Ubuntu development team would see this post and
  fix the problem.

And there is one other thing that I've noticed...the menu bar is all
black at all times when I am logged into Ubuntu, except for the icons
on the upper right hand side of the Ubuntu screen, such as the mail
icon, wifi icon, etc. Those are slightly grey. The time however in
that location is black however and basically unreadable. The only time
I see the various drop downs from the menubar is when I hover over the
menubar and click on where would be the various File, Edit so forth
  items on the menubar.

Actually, as I'm writing this, for the first time I see the menubar
items, File, Edit, etc., in black on a grey area in the menubar area,
but they only appear when I hover over that area with the cursor,
where they actually reside. I like the feature that the menubar
itself, File, Edit, etc., only appears when you hover over it, but
black text (menubar titles) on a very grey area isn't very readable.

Lastly, occasionally when I rightclick with my mouse button to get a
dropdown area in various areas of the screen, where it would be
activated, such as to paste or cut text, it will appear for a second
but then disappear almost immediately. Not long enough to actually
click on what you want such as Paste. I pray that the Ubuntu Team
does in fact see this topic and implements the bug fixes soon, and in
a way that once the OS is updated to represent these fixes, I can just
update the Ubuntu Operating System through the Update Manager in the
OS from within the OS I already have installed, and not have to
reinstall Ubuntu all over again when the fixes come out. Thank you all
so very much, in advance, for reading and appropriately responding to
  my lengthy post.

May God Bless each and every one of you in The Mighty Name of The Lord Jesus
Christ! He saved me and He can save you too if you are willing.

  Blessings,

  Jason

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-11-07 Thread Thiago Martins
@Sezov: Well, 4.9.3 packages should be right around the corner (I'd give
it a week). It's supposed to be fixed in 4.9.3.

Bug description:
I have Kubuntu 12.10 set up on a ThinkPad T430.

I'm experiencing both desktop corruption and slow performance of
desktop effects. I've tried to downgrade mesa to 8.0.4 and that fixed
  the problem.

Attached is a video comparing the two. The video does not show the
desktop corruption I mention (vertical lines appearing) but I will
  attach a screenshot of that.

I originally thought this was related to bug 1042211 but they told me
to file another report since it seems to be different artifacts that
  I'm seeing.

Of course I can't say for sure whether the slow performance and the
artifacts are due to the same problem but the artifacts seem to appear
when the desktop effects are activated. As you can see in the video,
mesa 9.0 displays much jerkier effects and it seems that when the
artifacts come this jerking becomes really bad just before the
artifacts appear. Just now I did notice that the artifacts appeared at
the mouse pointer when I clicked in a window. The artifacts followed
the mouse pointer as I moved it but after clicking a few times they
  disappeared.

  WORKAROUND:
As described in bug 1042211 I downloaded the 8.0.4 version of mesa from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/8.0.4-1ubuntu1. This fixed the
problem for me.

Since it took a little while for me to figure out how to get the .deb
packages from that page, here is how for anyone who wants to try:
  1) Go to the above page.
  2) Under Builds select your architecture
  3) This will bring you to a page with all the .deb files for your
architecture. I only installed the libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx,
libglapi-mesa and libglu1-mesa packages.

Please let me know if you need more information.

p.s. I had some problems choosing the package for this bug. It
wouldn't let me put it on libgl1-mesa so I put it on libgl1-mesa-dri.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-29 Thread Thiago Martins
It seem to be an intel+mesa9 specific problem. And what about KDE? Can
anyone confirm the rendering problems on Unity? And what about other
distros? Who else is fielding mesa9 right now? It seems that both fedora
and opensuse remain on 8.0.4. Heck, even Debian friggin' unstable is on
8.0.4.! Gentoo perhaps?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1040873] Re: [N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all: Subwoofer not working

2012-10-28 Thread Thiago Martins
Bad news: I just found out the potential race condition is very much
real, I jus had a machine resumed with a failed reset on the pins. No
big deal, if one runs the script manually
(/etc/sleep.d/99_reconf_sndpins_pa resume) it succeeds.

BTW, I'm afraid the proposed user_pin_configs isn't perfect either. On
the n76 (but I suspect the same applies to the n56) there's a SPDIF out,
shared with the headphone jack. The proposed user_pin_configs don't
create any SPDIF output.

Where can one find a documentation of these pin configuration values?

BTW, I think it's time to bug upstream about this.

Bug description:
  Hi,

this bug is a fork of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
driver/+bug/871808 because #871808 stands for a different hardware
with a different solution, so people may get confused.

Here is a summary (see post #48 to #54 of #871808):
The subwoofer of Asus N56VZ laptop doesn't work out of the box.

  #sudo hda-jack-sense-test -a :
  *** Without subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = No
  *** With subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = Yes

-- There are two ways of making it work:

  #1
  a. Add to rc.local :
  echo 0x1e 0x99130112 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 1 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/reconfig
  b. Add options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode4 in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
  c. Reboot
  d. Set the mode to Analog Stereo Output and then to Analog Surround 5.1
output in the sound settings panel. You have to do this each time you reboot!!!

  #2
  a. Add to rc.local :
  echo 0x16 0x99130111 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 0x1e 0x99130112 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 1 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/reconfig
  b. Reboot
  c. Set the mode to Analog Stereo Output and then to Analog Surround 5.1
output in the sound settings panel. You have to do this each time you reboot!!!

Both give the same results and fix the bug.

-- Can you make it work out of the box?

There is still two other bugs on this laptop :
  - crackling audio when playing with sound volume: see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1040867
  - When I put the omputer in sleep mode, there is no way to get sound working
on resume: should I open a new bug to investigate this?

  Sam

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1040873] Re: [N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all: Subwoofer not working

2012-10-24 Thread Thiago Martins
I think I'm making some progress in a workaround for the sleep issue.

The issue (sound missing after wakeup) seems to manifest itself only
when the machine is suspended *after* a user pin reconfigure. Since the
reconfigure interface is still labeled as an experimental feature, I
wouldn't be surprised if there was a problem with it. We should probably
create a bug report for that as well.

Apparently, just by reissuing the reconfigure commands again you can
have a working sound. The problem is, of course, pulseaudio won't let
you touch the reconfigure interface. So, the solution I found was to
write an /etc/pm/sleep.d that temporarily kills pulseaudio, reload user
pin configs (surprisingly, the values are already present in
user_pin_configs, but must be rewritten) and then reloads pulseaudio.

A few issues:

- There's an audible loud click noise when the pins are reconfigured.
It probably is a good idea to mute the audio before performing the
reconfiguration, just like the old /usr/lib/pm-
utils/sleep.d/01PulseAudio (in fact I already borrowed heavily from that
script).

- There's a potential racing condition here. If pulseaudio ever reloads
before the pin reconfiguration (autospawn makes this a possibility), the
whole thing fails.

Anyway, here's my script. I hope it helps.

** Attachment added: Script to be placed in /etc/pm/sleep.d that will atempt
hda pin reconfiguration on a resume with pulseaudio running.

[N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all:
  Subwoofer not working

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

this bug is a fork of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
driver/+bug/871808 because #871808 stands for a different hardware
with a different solution, so people may get confused.

Here is a summary (see post #48 to #54 of #871808):
The subwoofer of Asus N56VZ laptop doesn't work out of the box.

  #sudo hda-jack-sense-test -a :
  *** Without subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = No
  *** With subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = Yes

  project.org/db/?f=2778e7f430aa95ae219d0b2bc3cb5e46abd0a33a

-- There are two ways of making it work:

  #1
  a. Add to rc.local :
  echo 0x1e 0x99130112 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 1 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/reconfig
  b. Add options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode4 in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
  c. Reboot
  d. Set the mode to Analog Stereo Output and then to Analog Surround 5.1
output in the sound settings panel. You have to do this each time you reboot!!!

  #2
  a. Add to rc.local :
  echo 0x16 0x99130111 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 0x1e 0x99130112 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 1 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/reconfig
  b. Reboot
  c. Set the mode to Analog Stereo Output and then to Analog Surround 5.1
output in the sound settings panel. You have to do this each time you reboot!!!

Both give the same results and fix the bug.

-- Can you make it work out of the box?

There is still two other bugs on this laptop :
  - crackling audio when playing with sound volume: see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1040867
  - When I put the omputer in sleep mode, there is no way to get sound working
on resume: should I open a new bug to investigate this?

  Sam

2012-10-23 Thread Thiago Martins
@Rob: Aw snap! Guess what I was just about to do? Well, that's a serious
no-go for me, but since I still want to give 12.10 a chance, I'll go on
installing bumblebee anyway... Most likely that's the last thing I'll do
on 12.10. I will report soon.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-23 Thread Thiago Martins
@Rob: Ok, so I'm back from rebooting after bumblebee install and I
report no corruption nor frame rate reduction. optirun glxspheres is
working flawlessly on my NVidia 650M at 220 fps (jpg transport)...

However...

I did install it through aptitude, which pointed that the recommended
virtualgl-libs-ia32 (i386) was incompatible with the available versions
of libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 (only version 9.0-0ubuntu1 is available here).
As such, aptitude (rightfully) ignored this recommendation. Muon, on the
other hand, *will* try to install virtualgl-libs-ia32, which I suppose
will break the downgrade to mesa 8.0.4.

Now, what do I make of this? Well, for start, I fear my bumblebee
install won't work with my wine games. I haven't tried it yet, but the
lack of a 32 bits virtualgl lib is not looking promising. I will report
on that soon.

Then, again, aptitude won't install the 32bits version of virtualgl for
the lack of a 32bits version of libgl1-mesa-glx. Well, there's one build
of such version on the very same repository pointed by the OP, under
i386 builds! My next steps are:

- Find out if the lack of virtualgl-libs-ia32 is really problematic (i.e. wine
gaming).
- Find out if I can install virtualgl-libs-32 using the i386 builds of mesa
8.0.4 from the repository of the OP.

-mesa-glx, libglapi-mesa and libglu1-mesa packages and installed them
with dpkg -i. Unsurprisingly, libgl1-mesa-* remained unconfigured due to
unsatisfied dependencies. I ten fired aptitude, who promptly suggested
the removal of the 3 libs. The very next suggestion was the installation
of the missing dependencies. I installed them and now I have a working
wine+bublebee combo. My packages are a bit of a mess now, though...

Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-22 Thread Thiago Martins
Same issues here, corruption and slowness on kwin with an Intel 3rd gen
gpu (HD4000?)l As suggested in the original post, I downgraded to mesa
8.0.4 and now kwin is again rendering at 60fps with no corruption.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1040873] Re: [N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all: Subwoofer not working

2012-10-21 Thread Thiago Martins
Well, I have an ASUS N76V here with exactly the same subwoofer problem.
The #2 fix proposed in the original post worked just fine under Precise.
Unfortunately, since the upgrade to Quantal (12.10), it somehow breaks
audio post-hibernate/sleep.

[N56VZ, Realtek ALC663, Black Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all:

Bug description:
  Hi,

this bug is a fork of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
driver/+bug/871808 because #871808 stands for a different hardware
with a different solution, so people may get confused.

Here is a summary (see post #48 to #54 of #871808):
The subwoofer of Asus N56VZ laptop doesn't work out of the box.

  #sudo hda-jack-sense-test -a :
  *** Without subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = No
  *** With subwoofer:
Pin 0x1e (Black SPDIF Out): present = Yes

  project.org/db/?f=2778e7f430aa95ae219d0b2bc3cb5e46abd0a33a

-- There are two ways of making it work:

  #1
  a. Add to rc.local :
  echo 0x1e 0x99130112 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 1 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/reconfig
  b. Add options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode4 in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
  c. Reboot
  d. Set the mode to Analog Stereo Output and then to Analog Surround 5.1
output in the sound settings panel. You have to do this each time you reboot!!!

  #2
  a. Add to rc.local :
  echo 0x16 0x99130111 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 0x1e 0x99130112 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/user_pin_configs
  echo 1 /sys/class/sound/hwC0D0/reconfig
  b. Reboot
  c. Set the mode to Analog Stereo Output and then to Analog Surround 5.1
output in the sound settings panel. You have to do this each time you reboot!!!

Both give the same results and fix the bug.

-- Can you make it work out of the box?

There is still two other bugs on this laptop :
  - crackling audio when playing with sound volume: see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1040867
  - When I put the omputer in sleep mode, there is no way to get sound working
on resume: should I open a new bug to investigate this?

  Regards
  Sam
