[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1324572] Re: "Rotate Image?" dialog doesn't offer understandable options
This bugfix will be available in the next major release of GIMP, version 2.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324572 Title: "Rotate Image?" dialog doesn't offer understandable options Status in The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP): Fix Released Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: gimp 2.8.10-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 14.04 1. Open an image containing EXIF rotation data. 2. Try to decide whether to rotate the image. What happens: You aren't given the information necessary to make the decision. What should happen: You are given the information necessary. A dialog appears with a thumbnail and the question: "According to the EXIF data, this image is rotated. Would you like GIMP to rotate it into the standard orientation?" Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you what "EXIF data" is, or what the "standard orientation" means. Most importantly, it doesn't tell you whether the thumbnail represents the image before or after the rotation it is suggesting! One way of fixing this bug would be to redesign the dialog to be dominated by two thumbnails, one before rotation and one after, and let you click on the one you want. Another way would be to not put up the dialog at all, and instead rely on you to use Gimp's normal Rotate function if you need to. (for example TabletPC users, disabled users that can only use a pointer,...) These users are not able to input their password into the gksu authentication dialog, because the gksu dialog grabs the pointer. To resolve the same issue in policykit-gnome, they decided to simply not perform any pointer grabs on its authentication dialog; see comment 12 and 13 of the following bugthread: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=531609 (remove the pointer grabs and provide a gconf key for the keyboard grabs where there seems to be more security issues) There is a gconf key to disable grabbing for the gksu dialog. My wife is a professional photographer and relies on Gimp for the brunt of her editing. After the upgrade, the system would routinely slow to a crawl while she is working. This is on a modern system with 4GB of RAM. We started watching memory usage in Top while she edited to try to see what the problem was. Every time a new filter, plugin, tool, etc is used - the used memory goes up and the free memory goes down. When the tool/filter/plugin is finished, this memory is never freed back up. This continues all the way until we are using swap space and things then really slow to a crawl. Closing Gimp frees all of the memory, then it will work fine again for a while during use until all the free memory leaks over again, at which time she must save her work, close gimp and start again. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 256219] Re: Copy Link Location adds %20 where spaces should be in JAVASCRIPT links (messes up the js function when pasting somewhere else)
** Package changed: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) => firefox (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256219 Title: Copy Link Location adds %20 where spaces should be in JAVASCRIPT links (messes up the js function when pasting somewhere else) Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 on this page: http://www.streamingfaith.com/directory/network.aspx?nsn=ABLFC there is a link that reads "Click here to view now!" The HREF is javascript:OpenPopup('/faithpass/index.aspx?nsn=ABLFC', _sWindowName, _iWidth, _iHeight, _sScrollYesNo, _sResizableYesNo); When you right click the text link, however, and select Copy Link Location, Firefox (3.0+ only) converts the spaces between the JS variables into %20. This is fine for standard HTTP:// links, but it breaks the javascript link when I try to paste it elsewhere. It looks like this: javascript:OpenPopup('/faithpass/index.aspx?nsn=ABLFC',%20_sWindowName,%20_iWidth,%20_iHeight,%20_sScrollYesNo,%20_sResizableYesNo); Every time I copy a link this way, i have to paste it into a text editor and then replace all "%20" with a space. Then i have to recopy that if I want to paste the link somewhere else. This did NOT happen in Firefox 2.x browsers. This is something I use DAILY at work (I work for Streaming Faith) and it really makes things difficult, because when (not if) I forget to remove the %20s, the javascript function doesn't run. Could you please attach a screenshot please? Thank you! ** Changed in: gimp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/925371 Title: gimp menu font size is wrong, does not follow qtcurve settings Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This results from incorrectly assuming that everybody has a 96 dpi screen. In KDE settings you can configure gtk applications appearence to use the qtcurve style that makes gnome apps consistent in look with kde apps and - most important - allows their appearance to be controlled from the kde system settings. Furthermore in KDE settings you can configure the screen dpi. Whenever you have a laptop with a good screen resolution, the ubuntu default to ignore edid and assume that all screens are 96dpi makes everything unreadable. So you need using the kde settings to set the dpi to something better. For instance 120 dpi. It is unfortunate that this breaks everything. Sad. Even windows can be set to use 120dpi. Some gtk apps follow the qtcurve settings and work OK. Synaptics for instance. All gtk-3 apps do not have qtcurve customisation and need to have gtkrc-3.0 files manually created, otherwise menuy fonts get too big. Some gtk-2.0 applications want to do things their own way and need gtkrc files to be specially created. Emacs is among them. It needs a .gtkrc file with fonts settings in .emacs.d/ otherwise its menu fonts become to big. Some gtk-2.0 applications just seem to ignore anything and to be completely undocomented with regards to theming. Gimp is among them. Apparently there is no way to achieve a sane menu font size in gimp in kubuntu at 120dpi. Which one depends on the default desktop environment, but from the standpoint of the program that needs root privileges, they are fungible. However, most GUI programs guess, hardcode, or depend upon a particular sudo GUI. Sometimes they get the answer wrong, which causes needless breakage and aggravation. The various graphical interfaces to sudo should create a link to x-sudo in the /etc/alternatives directory. Then, other GUI programs can simply point to x-sudo instead of trying to [guess | parse | hardlink] which desktop environment happens to be in charge at the moment. Such a solution would also help OEMs who want to give their customers a choice in desktop environments but also install various desktop- agnostic configuration scripts or programs. In particular, oem-config would be able to point to x-sudo irrespective of whether GNOME, KDE3, KDE4, XFCE, fluxbox, or a private label desktop environment is installed. Create an .scm file with the following content: (gimp-message "test") 2. Run the newly created .scm file with Gimp. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 891828] Re: Gimp's path to selection/selection to path does not preserve absolute size
Are you still affected by this bug? Does it also happen with GIMP 2.8.x series? Thank you for telling us! ** Changed in: gimp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/891828 Title: Gimp's path to selection/selection to path does not preserve absolute size Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Very often, I'd like to have several images of same size. For that, I typically "select all" one image, to a "Selection to Path", then "Copy Path" (from Layers, Channels, Paths), then click the other image to bring it in focus, then "Paste Path" in its Layers, Channels, Paths - then click on the path in Layers, Channels, Paths and choose "Path to Selection", and finally crop. The thing is, if I do this in this version of Ubuntu's gimp -- the second image gets *again* selected in its entirety - regardless if it is of different (larger) size! So, I did a little test - made a 100x100 selection in one image (of size 941x455), make it a path, copy and paste the path in another image (of size 992x543) - when I turn it into selection, I can see in the Toolbox info for Rectangle Select that it has the size 107x120 !! Since 100*992/941 = 105.42 and 100*543/455 = 119.341, I'd say that the new selection size is likely scaled in proportion to the difference in the sizes of the images. Now, I file this as a bug, since I just worked under OpenSuse 11.2's Gimp - and there this process works as (I) expected: the absolute size of the selection is preserved (i.e. both the original and the final selection remain at size 100x100 pixels). Hope this is enough information - and if it turns out not to be a bug, I'd appreciate some guidance into what behavior in this case is actually expected. Thanks! The prompt was caused by network manager automatically connecting to a preferred wireless network. I have been able to reproduce this bug twice: the first time was accidentally and caused me to lose all my open windows - very frustrating. The second time was intentional. This should be fixed as it has a potentially catastrophic affect on wireless users (and maybe wired?): users can lose very important work if they have a blip in their internet connection - and possibly during other times when a admin password is asked for. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 926155] Re: Cannot move side bars when in window mode / barely moved when maximized
I'm sorry that nobody has cared about your bug yet. I would need more information about this bug. Can you please tell us your current Ubuntu version / GIMP version? If you are still affected, provide us with a new screenshot. Thank you very much! ** Changed in: gimp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926155 Title: Cannot move side bars when in window mode / barely moved when maximized Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 / Fresh install of Gimp. Loaded the first time, and could not move the side bars which hold all the later / icon information. The "Close / Move / Etc" bars are at the top of the windows, and that is being covered by the un-right clickable un-moveable un-hideable "Tool" bar. Had to maximize the whole program and then I was able to grab 3 pixels worth of side tool bars and move them around and re-size it so they are not covered any more. Overall Problem: Bring back quick access to hide / move that dumb tool bar up top. The side bar has the ability to slide away and we do not see it.
