I'm assuming that vrruiz added verification-needed accidentally.
Removing it again as the report reads like a success.

I verified that the package from -proposed enables installation of
snapd/systemd without any issues. Waiting for qa to give a vote, too,
before setting to verification-done.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1591935] Re: audio record works for call audio

2016-06-28 Thread Thomas Voß
On the trust-store aspect of this: pulseaudio should use the "feature"
field when asking trust-store to verify requests, and use different
enumeration values to distinguish ordinary microphone recording from
voicecall recording. The respective functionality is available from
trust-store today.

Taking the bigger picture into account, I would vote in favor of keeping
the voicecall recording feature enabled under the assumption that the
different recording types are clearly surfaced to the user.

Install the app 'Recorder' from the Ubuntu Store.

Confirm it works by opening and making a recording. Note that the app
requests permission to access the microphone, and you grant this with
  the usual trust store prompt.

Now move to the phone app, and place a regular phone call. With the
call active, open Recorder again, and start recording.

Stop recording after some time, and hang up the call.

return to the recorder app, and play the recording made during the
phone call. Audio from both the local microphone and the remote
handset (Which the user heard during the call) will be present on the
  track.

It was expected that no audio from the call could be captured by
  applications.

AVRCP is still not working. I've digged a bit into it and it seems the
reason is that mpris-proxy fails to introspect the MPRIS interface of
media-hub. The reason for that seems to be that dbus-cpp does not
correctly reply to GetAll property requests on D-Bus. I'm not entirely
sure if it's an issue in libdbus-cpp, or wrong usage of it in media-
  hub.

  Krillin, rc-proposed, r83

  DESCRIPTION:
I've been trying to track down the cause of the occasional UI freezes on my
Krillin device, and I noticed that whenever the UI freezes for 2-4 seconds, I
get a burst of "PropertiesChanged" signals in dbus-monitor

  Here's a log of what's shown in dbus-monitor:
  http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/11992322/

I'd guess the problem is in the code that actually catches the signals
  and acts accordingly.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
  1) Move to a place where many wifi hotspots are available
  2) Connect the device via USB and run "phablet-shell" and then "dbus-monitor"
  3) Use the device while keeping an eye on dbus-monitor output

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices

2015-12-08 Thread Thomas Voß
Thanks for the graphs. One thing that stands out is the time that the
system stays active when occasionally waking up from deep sleep (right
hand side of the graph).
Do you have the raw data producing those graphs handy?

Thanks,

  Thomas

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices

2015-11-23 Thread Thomas Voß
Quick update on silo 26: I'm rebuilding location-service to account
for a recent landing.
The one blocking issue is mediascanner2, which requires a rebuild,
too. It is however enabled for dual-landing
to both vivid and xenial, and we cannot easily do a vivid+o landing
with it right now. I'm working on the resolving that issue,
but it will likely take a day or two to complete.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487129] Re: camera-app mic permission item blank

2015-08-21 Thread Thomas Voß
Interestingly, the entry for the CameraService is correct and
constitutes a valid App id. However, the entry for the microphone is not
a valid app id but seems to come from a service that runs under an app-
armor profile qtubuntu-camera. I think we might need to patch the
respective service, too, to enable trust integration.

  please drop build-dependency on g++-4.9

Status in dbus-cpp package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The dbus-cpp package currently has a build-dependency on g++-4.9. This
build-dependency is present because of the recommendations on
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/cpp-11 about handling of C++11.

The C++11 ABI has now stabilized in gcc as of gcc 5; however, before
we can switch to gcc 5, we first need to be able to do rebuild tests
of the archive against this compiler.

To facilitate this, please drop the build-dependency on g++-4.9 from
the package in wily. 4.9 will remain the default until all transition
issues have been identified, so there is no risk of accidental ABI
  breakage here anymore.

I investigated into the Android approach, and it turns out that they
solely rely on the last scan results to populate the settings panel.
Please see

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Boot to system
  2. Scroll down the Network indicator
  3. It lists about 10 AP (In Taipei office)
  4. Go to another place and check network indicator again

  Expected Result:
It should not list non-exist AP and only show available AP

  Actual Result:
It shows about 12 AP on the screen but only two are real AP for connecting,
and others 10 are from last list.

This is reproducible on mako/krillin on both RTM and vivid.

The main issue is that the timeout for the AP to be removed from the
known AP list is too big when comparing with other phones.

Then view the result with massif-viewer. The image is attached and
shows that memory consumption keeps on increasing all the time and
never drops. Presumably because dbus-cpp is not properly releasing

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1394204] Re: dbus daemon spinning with NM AP properties change event

2015-01-06 Thread Thomas Voß
I tracked down the root cause to the location service reacting to
changes to the PrimaryConnection property of
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager by reaching out to all devices associated
with the primary connection, and querying their properties, both for
wifi devices and cross-referencing to Ofono for modem devices. This
behavior of not relying on cached values causes excessive traffic on the
bus. The branch attached to this bug mitigates the issue by:

(1.) Relying on the cached devices for querying device properties. This is
sufficient, as the cache is always consistent in this particular scenario.
(2.) Not explicitly reacting to modem state changes coming in via Ofono but
instead only reacting to changes to the PrimaryConnection property of
NetworkManager.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1390618] Re: Uniy8 crashed when creating a wireless connection with an access point

2014-11-10 Thread Thomas Voß
Thanks for the report. The issue arises when trying to communicate to
the dbus daemon in a dtor, and I can easily make that call exception
safe. However, that specific call failing is concerning, and we should
further investigate why removing a match rule apparently fails (probably
times out).

Bug description:
  STEPS:
  1. Install a new image (Apparently it works with just re-running the wizard)
  2. While the dash is empty drag down the network indicator
  3. Click on the first unlock sim button
  4. Type in the unlock code and hit the tick
  5. System locks up

  EXPECTED:
I expect the lock you unlock the sim and change back to the indicator

  ACTUAL:
The system hard locks nothing works. In the end you are forced to hard
shutdown the phone by pressing and holding the power button till the phone
powers down.

Booting the Phone back up after this and everthing works as expected.
Also waiting on the dash to fully load and fill with apps and then unlocking
works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1380848] Re: Apps and services use large amount of CPU after unity8 resets

2014-11-02 Thread Thomas Voß
We should assign this bug to an overarching component/project as
multiple independent services (media-hub, location-service, dbus-daemon)
are affected.

However, one idea that came to my mind: It might be that a spurious
posix signal is causing these issues, probably a SIGHUP somewhere,
arising on a thread that the respective signal is not blocked on. I will
keep on investigating into that direction.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1380848] Re: Apps and services use large amount of CPU after unity8 resets

2014-10-31 Thread Thomas Voß
I will try to come up with a distilled down test case illustrating that
libdbus-cpp is not the cause but a symptom of the issue. Point being
that it certainly shows up in the stack traces, but it sits waiting in
all of them (specifically for the system settings crash).

To clarify: The message router likely resolves to an already dead
object, and the access to the associated mutex is undefined behavior as
the member has been freed when the respective object died away before.
I'm proposing a change to dbus-cpp to robustify handling of such
situations. However, downstream projects should make sure that they
clean up correctly dynamically created objects.

  Hi,

while testing location-service in utopic-proposed on mako, I've reproduced
the exact same setup as in bug #1367835, but disabled the GPS provider to avoid
the error described in this bug:
  1) change:
  export HERE_IMEI_FRAGMENT=$Serial
  to:
  export HERE_IMEI_FRAGMENT=35513605
  in /etc/init/ubuntu-location-provider-here-posclientd.conf to help the
service come up on boot (see bug #1367244), not sure it helps though.

  2) change
exec /usr/bin/ubuntu-location-serviced --bus system --provider $provider
$poptions
  to:
  exec /usr/bin/ubuntu-location-serviced --bus system --provider
remote::Provider --remote::Provider::name=com.ubuntu.espoo.Service.Provider
--remote::Provider::path=/com/ubuntu/espoo/Service/Provider
  in /etc/init/ubuntu-location-service.override.

I also manually started the trust store with start ubuntu-location-
  service-trust-stored.

While accessing location from OSMTouch app, I've got this crash.

http://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/api/html/group__DBusBus.html#ga8a9024c78c4ea89b6271f19dbc7861b2

The function could return one of:

   * DBUS_REQUEST_NAME_REPLY_PRIMARY_OWNER
   * DBUS_REQUEST_NAME_REPLY_EXISTS
   * DBUS_REQUEST_NAME_REPLY_ALREADY_OWNER

The exists response should probably be treated as an error.

Title:
core::dbus::Fixture leaves stale dbus-daemon processes around if test
  suite terminates

Status in “dbus-cpp” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
If a test suite terminates without core::dbus::Fixture's destructor
running, two stale dbus-daemon subprocesses are left running. Among
other things, this can lead to apparent test suite hangs when running
under cmake/ctest: ctest doesn't consider a test to have completed
until stdout/stderr are closed, and the dbus-daemon subprocesses hold
those file descriptors open. The default timeout for tests seems to
be 2 hours, so this can introduce a long delay.

It is clear that cases where this happens are errors, but as this
class is intended to be used in test suites, it would be nice if it
was a bit more robust about making sure the subprocesses are cleaned
  up.

Bug description:
The core::dbus::Service constructor ignores the return value of
dbus_bus_request_name(). This means that a service might start but
never be able to handle any method calls because its well known name
  is owned by someone else.

When used with the core::dbus::Skeleton type, the name request flags
are do_not_queue and replace_existing. Looking at the libdbus API

This test suite does *not* fail if either dbus-cpp is rebuilt with
g++-4.9, or if location-service is built with g++-4.8.

This implies a binary compatibility problem for C++ libraries in g++
4.9, which is critical to resolve.
