[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574732] Re: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable
That is the goal. I'm surprised that you didn't get a dialog on upgrade that requested a decision on secure boot mode. You might if you remove and reinstall the nVidia driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574732 Title: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable Status in shim: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am running Ubuntu 16.04 since at least four months, always with the nvidia proprietary drivers (installed from the repository). I used nvidia-361 for a while with no issues (and i need it for steam gaming). However, an update installed on my machine yesterday breaks the nvidia drivers. I tried purging the driver, rebooting and reinstalling and i tried a newer version for the ubuntu-drivers ppa. Nothing helps: With the nvidia driver installed, i get a low- resolution login screen, but cannot login due to missing 3d acceleration. Running on nouveau works fine. This seems very strange to since everything worked until this afternoon. Yesterday, i was happily playing games on steam, installed some updates and now, my graphics are broken. $ lspci | grep NVIDIA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] (rev a2) 01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation Device 0fbc (rev a1) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-21.37-generic 4.4.6 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-21-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Mon Apr 25 17:45:12 2016 DistUpgraded: 2016-03-11 21:34:38,175 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: xenial DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bbswitch, 0.8, 4.4.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 5.0.18, 4.4.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 5.0.18, 4.4.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] [10de:1381] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Palit Microsystems Inc. On login, the desktop icons move back and forth several times, I believe this correlates with ~/.xesssion-errors 'unity main process ended' messages like: upstart: unity7 main process (7477) terminated with status 1 upstart: unity7 main process ended, respawning upstart: unity7 main process (7910) terminated with status 1 upstart: unity7 main process ended, respawning upstart: unity7 main process (7939) terminated with status 1 Further investigation showed that compiz was failing to start. Attempting to start it by hand shows: intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument Those same messages appear in ~/.cache/upstart/unity7.log. Having a linux-headers package dependency in Quantal/Raring/Saucy is benign since there will never be an official LTS kernel installed in those releases. Most bug reports on i855 are probably due to the CPU/GPU incoherency problem that is now consolidated upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187 (which was split off from a bug report for i845). For now, we mark all automatically reported GPU lockups on i855 as duplicates of this unless there is a reason not to. A kernel with the proposed fix is available at https://launchpad.net /~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes To use this fixed kernel, run the following commands: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-fixes sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-ppa21+v9patch-generic There is a similar master bug report for i845 at bug 541492. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 745836] Re: encrypted swap corrupts application stack/heap [was: soffice.bin SIGSEGV cppu::throwException()]
Tyler - this patch fixes the corruption caused by the reproducer in #86 using a 2.6.38 kernel. However, I'm not able to reproduce this using a 2.6.35 kernel. Do you have any advice as to whether this patch is really applicable on kernels older then 2.6.38 ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745836 Title: encrypted swap corrupts application stack/heap [was: soffice.bin SIGSEGV cppu::throwException()] Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Won't Fix Status in “ecryptfs-utils” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in “ecryptfs-utils” source package in Maverick: Invalid Status in “libreoffice” source package in Maverick: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Maverick: Confirmed Status in “openoffice.org” source package in Maverick: Won't Fix Status in “ecryptfs-utils” source package in Natty: Invalid Status in “libreoffice” source package in Natty: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Natty: In Progress Status in “openoffice.org” source package in Natty: Won't Fix Status in “ecryptfs-utils” source package in Oneiric: Invalid Status in “libreoffice” source package in Oneiric: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Oneiric: Fix Released Status in “openoffice.org” source package in Oneiric: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: libreoffice 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.04 Release: 11.04 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc libreoffice-calc: Installed: 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer libreoffice-writer: Installed: 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 3) What is expected to happen in a KDE Natty in a KDE session with the KDE integration active or GNOME is a Writer or Calc file untouched for a long period of time (ex. 1 hour+) is when one tries to edit it, the application does not crash. 4) What happens instead is it crashes.
