[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579098] Re: [touch] Mobile data connection drops, and doesn't automatically reconnect

2016-12-27 Thread Tomas Öqvist
You are not the only one. I have no idea what was actually fixed and
released regarding this bug, because nothing has changed for me. My Pro
5 has serious issues with both mobile data and wifi. It seems it can't
reconnect properly once a signal is lost. I probably toggle airplane
mode 5-10 times a day to reconnect. Indicator comes and goes and doesn't
seem to have much to do with the actual data connection of my phone.

One thing I wonder though is if this problem is more common on the Pro 5
than on other devices and if it is related to which operator or cellular
network you are on. I did a quick poll on G+
(https://plus.google.com/107122765209471240742/posts/9ESqWr35RSs?sfc=true)
to see how many users had frequent connection problems. It turned out
that about 50% of users have no issues whatsoever with mobile data or
wifi. Only 5% had frequent mobile data connection issues, so that can
explain the low priority to this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1588533] Re: Mobile Data Network not working after screen is off for more then 2 min

2016-10-14 Thread Tomas Öqvist
Confirmed on my Pro 5 with rc-proposed. I can never count on having a
data connection on my Pro 5 (rc-proposed) when I need it. Even if I do
get a mobile data connection, I can never count on it to last for long.
I find myself constantly toggling airplane mode off and on, sometimes it
helps, sometimes not. If anything, the connection problems are getting
worse...

There are numerous bug reports about similar connection issues and most
likely many of them are related. Maybe it is time to synchronize all
these and try to figure out what is really going on. By spreading the
connection issues over several different bug reports doesn't seem to put
enough focus on the fact that using an Ubuntu Phone for connectivity
(mobile in particular, but also wifi) has become a horrible experience
(I am not kidding!). This kind of defeats the purpose of the whole
project in my view.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1407928] Re: [phone] Does not auto-switch to available, known WiFi

2016-10-14 Thread Tomas Öqvist
I experience this issue quite often with my Pro 5 (rc-proposed). It is
not unusual that I have to pull down the network indicator and actually
tap on my home wifi in order to reconnect. Frequently at other times,
when I wake the phone from suspend (i.e. turn it on), I am being
prompted for the wifi password. Tapping cancel sends the connection to
mobile (if it all works, but that's another story with separate bug
reports). After that I have to go through the above procedure tapping on
my home wifi to reconnect.

  What we are asking the customer for:

  1º Forget the network through the UI Settings>Wi-Fi and connect to it again
as if was the first time.
  2º Try to connect another Wi-Fi AP not saved previously
  3º Factory data reset(but we haven't recommend it yet)

  Please let us know which logs do you need and we'll try to reproduce

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1318360] Re: Poor microphone quality (mako)

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Öqvist
I guess that Android applies some kind of filter to prevent the
distortion somehow picked up by the mic. Sound gets worse if I speak in
a louder voice and the output at the other end is apparantly very loud
also. As Nexus 4 is still the main phone used for Ubuntu Touch, I
believe the platform would benefit greatly if this issue could be solved
sooner than later.

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Öqvist
After looking into the apns-conf.xml on the device, I previously noted
that settings for Tele2 Sweden did not quite match the APN settings for
Nexus 4 recommended by the carrier. Strangely enough, sending MMS still
works. See settings comparison below, the most notable differences being
MNC and APN type. I did try changing the APN settings and putting an
edited copy of apns-conf.xml in /custom/etc/ earlier, but that didn't
make any difference for receiving MMS.

Ubuntu Touch RTM:
apn carrier=Tele2 MMS
  mcc=240
  mnc=05
  apn=4g.tele2.se
  mmsc=http://mmsc.tele2.se;
  mmsproxy=130.244.202.30
  mmsport=8080
  type=mms
  mvno_match_data=Tele2
  mvno_type=spn
  /

Tele2 Sweden MMS suggested settings for Nexus 4:
Name - Tele2
APN - 4g.tele2.se
Proxy - TBD (not determined)
Port - TBD
Username - TBD
Password - TBD
MMSC - http://mmsc.tele2.se
MMS proxy - 130.244.202.30
MMS port - 8080
MCC - 240
MNC - 07
Authentication type - TBD
APN type - default, supl, mms
APN protocol - IPv4
APN roaming protocol - IPv4

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1318360] Re: Poor microphone quality (mako)

2014-09-24 Thread Tomas Öqvist
That would be nice. Problem persists despite flashing my Nexus 4 to
newest android (4.4.4) and then flashing to Ubuntu RTM channel.

Title:
  Poor microphone quality (mako)

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After months of complaints from people talking to me on the phone
  (mako ubuntu touch), I finally got around to use multiROM to dual boot
  Ubuntu Touch and Android. Several people can confirm that there is a
  noticable difference in terms of sound/microphone quality between
  Android and UT in phone calls. With UT, my voice gets distorted to an
  extent that person at the other end have real difficulties to hear
  what I am saying, while with Android call quality is much better with
  no distortion.

  I have had a suspicion for a long time that this might be a software
  and not a hardware issue. After trying Android and Ubuntu on the same
  hardware I believe this suspicion is proved correct. This issue has
  persisted in all the builds I have tried since at least the beginning
  of the year, but probably longer. I am now at r17 of Utopic.

2014-09-01 Thread Tomas Öqvist
There seem to be a slight improvement, but most people I talk to still
believe that the voice quality is really poor.
