[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615734] Re: Multiple monitors broken
Version of my drivers is 430, it did the same on 390, using the prorietary Nvidia drivers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-361 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615734 Title: Multiple monitors broken Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-361 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-367 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-384 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a Lenovo P50 with Nvidia Optimus (Quadro M1000M), installed with Ubuntu 16.04 and the recommended Nvidia drivers (361.42). I added two external monitors connected to DP sockets in the docking station. I would like to have display shift to those two monitors when the laptop is docked. One monitor has native resolution of 1680x1050 and the other is 1920x1080. The laptop native resolution is 1920x1080. Expected result: laptop monitor shut off, two external monitors running in native resolution, display shared on both monitors (not mirrored). Process: I configured the display using the "Displays" applet in the unity control center. However, pressing "Apply" when changing a specific display setting (such as resolution, location of screen relative to others, turning on/off), results in a long period of darkness, usually followed by display falling back to mirroring of all 3 monitors, using a similar-size screen (either low on all or high on all with the low-res monitor using panning). The applet remains frozen for some time, with the dialog "Is the display ok" open but unresponsive. Later I realized this is because there is another dialog of "Cannot set screen CRTCXXX" hidden under the two above windows, which needs to by ok-ed first. Extra: I also tried setting the display manually with 'xrandr', which lead to a similar result as above - with the "cannot set screen" dialog, and falling back to mirroring. This convinced me that the problem is probably with the nvidia driver and not the higher plumbing. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615734] Re: Multiple monitors broken
Hm, I am on 18.04 on Thinkpad 530 and Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with three monitors and I have a very mild version of this problem. Only after suspend, the two monitors that are connected via the dock flicker (either show screen corruption or repeatedly blank in and blank out). The one connected to laptop's miniDP port works fine. However, I only need to issue xset dpms force standby to make them turn off and then move a mouse to make them turn on again. Another alternative is pressing alt+ctrl+F6 to go to tty6 and then alt+ctrl+F7 to go back to graphical interface. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 903997] Re: Held jobs should release automatically if selected printer is connected after attempting to print from an application
Hello, well, it is fixed and it is not fixed. When I plug in the printer (or turn it on when it is connected via wifi), it gets printed after five minutes (I think). So it seems the printer queue checkes every five minutes if a printer is available and then prints held jobs. I do not see why it is not immediate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to system-config-printer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903997 Title: Held jobs should release automatically if selected printer is connected after attempting to print from an application Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: How to reproduce: 1. Often, that means the printer is connected only if the user wants to print something. Often, the user remembers to connect the printer only after sending something to print. If I opened a new report, I would have to make it a duplicate of this one. I could copy the original report to the new one. What would it help? Christopher: what don't you understand about this bug not being hardware specific? This is a wishlist item, because the code needed to solve this (automatic rotation of touchpad when laptop is rotated in the physical world) is just not present in xorg? Nobody in Ubuntu is going to solve this, this is an upstream bug and upstream is not keen to implement this as far as I know so I guess it will go unfixed until xorg is obsolete, but why don't we just set it to confirmed, set importance to wishlist and let it be? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/800064 Title: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: when the monitor is rotated to a portrait orientation using gnome- display-properties (changing the rotation dropdown), and then i physically rotate my laptop, any connected usb mice then move correctly across the portrait screen- there are no issues with rotation for external mice. however, ubuntu (maverick at least) does not account for the fact that if you physically rotate your monitor, then you're obviously going to need to physically rotate a laptop's touchpad as well and thus the internal touchpad does not properly work when the laptop's monitor is in a portrait mode- up on the rotated touchpad = left, etc not sure of what package the bug is in - probably x.org ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: ubuntu-desktop 1.207 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.50-generic 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Jun 21 08:52:53 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: ubuntu-meta To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/800064/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1362368] Re: Enable compilation of Unity messaging menu integration
Well, I tried to include changelog but apparently I run dch -i at the wrong moment. Anyway, it should be fixed now. As for notify.so, it is provided by pidgin_2.10.9-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb: $ apt-file search /usr/lib/pidgin/notify.so pidgin: /usr/lib/pidgin/notify.so pidgin-dbg: /usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/pidgin/notify.so Also, it was there originally, I did not touch that line. True, it was meant to be turned on by default but it was not (that is what the line pref name='loaded' type='pathlist' does). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1359436] [NEW] Remapping PrintScreen key to Menu makes it impossible to use the renamed key to take screenshots
Public bug reported: I do not have a menu key on my keyboard, instead I have prinsceen where Menu key normally is. (An obvious workaround is running a script on login that sets the desired shortcuts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359436 Title: Remapping PrintScreen key to Menu makes it impossible to use the renamed key to take screenshots Status in “unity-control-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I do not have a menu key on my keyboard, instead I have prinsceen where Menu key normally is. So I remmaped it via xmodmap with the line: keycode 107 = Menu NoSymbol Menu I run xmodmap on a file with this line on every login. In xev, PrtScr correctly reports as Menu. When I try to reassign the Prinscreen command in settingskeyboardshortcuts, to ctrlMenu, it seems to work and it works right away, but after I log out and log in, it no longer works even though the ctrlMenu still shows in settingskeyboardshortcuts. This is on 14.04, gnome-control-centre works flawlessly in this regard (I tried it under gnome-shell). Short steps to reproduce: 1. Find out which keykode printcreen on your keyboard is using xev (I assume here it is 107) 2. xmodmap -e keycode 107 = Menu NoSymbol Menu 3.gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys screenshot SuperMenu 4. Verify it works by pressing Super+Menu=PrtScr 5. Log out an in. 6. It no longer works. Developers have a tough time to find anything if you post redundant stuff. I understand why the global menu was used for the netbook edition (it saves space and most windows are maximized), but since Unity is intended to be for the desktop edition there should be an option to switch to the traditional position of the app menu. It would be welcomed by many desktop users. Please try to find a solution for it that works. I tried other desktip environemnts (xfce and gnome-fallback) but nautils uses the gear menu there, so I cannot tell if this has something to do with app-indicator, but scripts from the script menu are definitely missing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1333599 Title: Nautilus doesn't show templates and scripts in the file menu Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The right-click context menu allows one to create new documents - either an empty file, or one of the files in the Templates XDG folder. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 800064] Re: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated
Have you read the original report and subsequent comments? This is a feature request, the specifications of anyone's machine are irelevant, this does not work for anybody with synaptics (or any other if I am not mistaken) touchpad. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 800064] Re: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated
(In other words - set it to wishlist and confirmed and let it be. Unless somebody from xorg is going to develop this feature, this is not going ot happen. There exists a patch (see here: http://cc.oulu.fi/~rantalai/synaptics/ ) that enables manual (but scriptable) way to rotate touchpad's axis, but upstream developers want something more general that would automatically work for all touchpads, not just synaptics. Now Unity is working properly, but I still have the Gnome Terminal in my startup applications (select system settings and it is Startup Applications under the Personal category. When I log in, the terminal starts as expected, but it has its own menu bar (i.e. not integrated with the unity panel) and it is placed flush with the top of the screen (i.e. with the window's title bar behind the top panel). Everything is fully functional, and I can use the ALT-click-drag combo to move it out of the way. If I close the terminal and start a new one, the menu is integrated into the unity panel and it opens in the right place (just below, not behind, the top panel). I will reopen this bug ince it gets released and I can verify. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/800064 Title: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: when the monitor is rotated to a portrait orientation using gnome- display-properties (changing the rotation dropdown), and then i physically rotate my laptop, any connected usb mice then move correctly across the portrait screen- there are no issues with rotation for external mice. however, ubuntu (maverick at least) does not account for the fact that if you physically rotate your monitor, then you're obviously going to need to physically rotate a laptop's touchpad as well and thus the internal touchpad does not properly work when the laptop's monitor is in a portrait mode- up on the rotated touchpad = left, etc not sure of what package the bug is in - probably x.org ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: ubuntu-desktop 1.207 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.50-generic 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Jun 21 08:52:53 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: ubuntu-meta To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/800064/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1206760] Re: Zenity text windows too tall with long text
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1087520 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1087520 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1087520 Zenity windows get TOO HIGH when text contains many words -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to zenity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1206760 Title: Zenity text windows too tall with long text Status in “zenity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: It seems that with many versions of zenity 3.60 and below, 3 of the text type dialogs ( --info --warning --error ) have significant sizing issues with text wrapping enabled. Long strings of text seem to cause extreemly tall dialogs such as this first example zenity --info --text Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas dfas dfas df a adsfasfas one workaround might be to turn off wrapping zenity --info --text Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas dfas dfas df a adsfasfas --no-wrap but this can cause dialogs to be too large vertically I noticed that by forcing the minimal width as so, (I pass 1, but it seems that zenity uses a hardcoded minimum) zenity --info --text Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas dfas dfas df a adsfasfas --width=1 the height of the dialog seems to be the same as the first example. However, with the skinny dialog, the full dialog is used, and the text is wrapped much better. Therefore, my guess is that when text wrapping is enabled (which it is by default) for --info --warning and --error Zenity is wrapping the text with the hardcoded minimal width, and calculating the needed height for wrapping the text with the minimal width. However, zenity usually later on uses a different much wider width when the dialog is displayed, which therefore causes the text wrapping to use less height. However zenity still ends up setting the height of the window to what it would need to be to fit the text if the window was the minimal width, in cases causing excessivly large and tall zenity windows. This is just my guess from what I can see. dialogs with --question seem to be sized a bit more sanely. This is similar from the dash (rhythmbox open - dash plays a file, otherwise it just opens rhythmbox).
