[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2048696] [NEW] Desktop occasionally starts in overview if hotcorner enabled
Public bug reported: With the hot corner enabled via the gnome settings multitasking menu, occasionally the desktop on login will start in the overview rather than directly on the desktop. There will be times when after login I end up on the desktop so I cant reproduce the bug consistently but it happens regularly enough going through the login process. Double checked dconf and the dock has the "disable-overview-on-startup" property set to true (default). Seeing the same thing with text in notifications when the higher scaled monitor is above the top panel. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2037143] [NEW] Autohide enabled Dock scaling breaks on multi monitor with different scale factors (low to high scale)
Public bug reported: The dock with autohide enabled breaks scaling on multi monitor setups when revealed from a hidden state if it is on the edge of the monitor adjacent to the other monitor where the next monitor has a higher scale factor. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034722] Re: High CPU usage causing slowdown
Yep I somehow had that set in my /etc/environment (don't ever remember setting it though). I removed it and rebooted and performance has gotten slightly better but now the logs are being spammed with "Meta.Rectangle is deprecated, use Mtk.Rectangle instead" from the bug you linked. Gnome-shell's CPU usage doesn't get as high as previously, it now ends up getting to around 50±% but is accompanied by a spike in systemd- journald so I guess that points to the log spam causing the slowdown on my machine. The spikes mainly occur when going into the overview and switching workspaces. I expect lower end/older systems would feel this the most, with newer systems not noticing any significant slowdown on the desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2034722 Title: High CPU usage causing slowdown Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have been experiencing high CPU usage from gnome-shell since upgrading to Mantic. htop shows gnome-shell consuming around 120% of the CPU. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969220]
(In reply to Olivier Tilloy from comment #4) > It looks like the difference might be in using the Wayland backend (default > in the beta and edge channels), versus being an XWayland client (default in > the stable channel). > > Can you switch back to the stable channel, and test again with > `MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1` ? The snap was previously failing to recognise the gesture with the Wayland backend on the beta channel a few weeks back (switched to beta roughly around the time stable was made to default to XWayland). Running `MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 firefox` when using the stable channel version now recognises the gesture. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969220 Title: Pinch to zoom not working on Wayland on Jammy Status in Mozilla Firefox: New Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Firefox running within snap confinement is unable to use the pinch to zoom gesture on 22.04. This is a regression as it does work on 21.10. I had been following https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964541 as it was suspected that these two issues were linked, however I am using the updated mutter released as a fix for the drag and drop bug but this didn't result in a fix for pinch to zoom. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1968425] Re: Workspace switching interruptible with trackpad overview gesture
I think it's similar to a degree, the other bug starts in the overview and similarly attempting to interrupt the transition, I can confirm the behaviour of seeing "a part of the previous workspace for a second or two" on GNOME 42. My issue is slightly different as it starts from the desktop and interrupts the transition by going to the overview (as demonstrated in the screen recording). I think both bugs speak to additional polish needed for the workspace transitions namely preventing an in progress transition from being interrupted regardless of being on the desktop or the overview. Fixing this may help to improve some of the unintended transitions I see when using rapid trackpad gestures, and the transitions sometimes feeling like they go somewhere different than intended (3 swipe down to desktop sometimes lands me on an adjacent desktop, but don't know how to reliably reproduce hence haven't created a bug for this). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968425 Title: Workspace switching interruptible with trackpad overview gesture Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Description: Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch) Release: 22.04 gnome-shell: Installed: 42.0-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 42.0-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 42.0-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What happened: On the desktop when using a trackpad 3 finger swipe to switch to an adjacent workspace, if a 3 finger swipe up gesture to go to the activities overview is invoked during the transition animation it will abruptly cancel the transition and go to the overview at the original workspace. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969220] [NEW] Pinch to zoom not working on Wayland on Jammy
Public bug reported: Firefox running within snap confinement is unable to use the pinch to zoom gesture on 22.04. This is a regression as it does work on 21.10. I had been following https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964541 as it was suspected that these two issues were linked, however I am using the updated mutter released as a fix for the drag and drop bug but this didn't result in a fix for pinch to zoom. Pinch to zoom does work when using Firefox from the official tarball with the variable MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 set. I can bring the output back as a choice if I run `pulseaudio -k`, but I will lose the choice to select this output if I put the computer to sleep, leaving me only with the S/PDIF output from my motherboard. I didnt see this issue prior to what I suspect was an `apt upgrade`. I can bring the output back as a choice if I run `pulseaudio -k`, but I will lose the choice to select this output if I put the computer to sleep, leaving me only with the S/PDIF output from my motherboard. I didnt see this issue prior to what I suspect was an `apt upgrade`.
