[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1577724] Re: NM doesn't sets the DNS properly, forces local dnsmasq as a resolver

2016-05-29 Thread Uqbar
I choose to get just the IP address and set my own DNS servers.
I expect to see those addresses appear somewhere, usually /etc/resolve.conf,
the standard resolver configuration file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1577724] Re: NM doesn't sets the DNS properly, forces local dnsmasq as a resolver

2016-05-29 Thread Uqbar
What about when I choose to only get the address from DHCP and not the DNS?
Is tcpdump (and the likes) the only way to know which DNSes have been
configured?

Sorry I haven't fully got your question.
Yes, I think I have dnsmasq running, but that's default by installation.
What do you mean with "can contact the service"?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: Network Manager asks for the PIN even if it is memorized

2015-10-26 Thread Uqbar
Please, mark this bug as "won't fix" and disallow further comments to be added.
After almost 5 years it's clear there either is no will to solve the bog or no
capability.
This will make the bug team more serious at least.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Plug the USB modem into a port.

  2. When you are asked to enter the modem's PIN, do along with the
  "automatically unlock this device" option.

  3. Unplug the modem, and plug it again.

  **
  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - The modem to be automatically unlocked.

  **
  REAL BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - You are asked to enter the PIN again.

  WORK-AROUNDS

  - Changing the SIM's PIN to empty.

  - Renaming the "/usr/share/nm-applet/gsm-unlock.ui" file.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - The same behaviour when configuring the PIN from the "Network
  Connections" menu.

  - Even if the PIN is stored in "/etc/NetworkManager/system-
connections/", Network Manager cannot retrieve it.

  - The bug makes the device to become locked as soon as network
connectivity is lost for a while.

  - This bug forces administrators to tell the PIN to other users, while
they will rather want to keep it in secret and just allow themselves
to be able to configure the connectivity in specific devices.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 574342] Re: GIMP set as default pdf viewer

2015-10-07 Thread Uqbar
This is a bug with GIMP, obviously.
The solution is to avoid GIMP setting itself as a PDF viewer: GIMP is not a
viewer.
If the user wants so, then it'd be up to her to change settings.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1491128] [NEW] Doesn't allow to file a bug for mtr

2015-09-01 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

When I install mtr I get this error:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

So I tried to file a bug against mtr. But I got an error from apport:

The problem cannot be reported:

This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party

Description-en: Full screen ncurses and X11 traceroute tool
mtr combines the functionality of the 'traceroute' and 'ping' programs
in a single network diagnostic tool.
 .
As mtr starts, it investigates the network connection between the host
mtr runs on and a user-specified destination host. After it
determines the address of each network hop between the machines,
it sends a sequence ICMP ECHO requests to each one to determine the
quality of the link to each machine. As it does this, it prints
 running statistics about each machine.

Bug description:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1294689] Re: Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

2015-02-02 Thread Uqbar
On top of this, depiste I have (obviously) Okular installed, Firefox is
insisting in using GIMP to open PDFs!!!
I fixed this by editing /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache.
It looks like once I installed GIMP, it got as the preferred way to read PDFs!
This thing is becoming more and more annoying.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 133133] Re: Open containing folder is only working if nautilus is present

2015-01-29 Thread Uqbar
I think more about stupidity that malice.
Firefox is not a Qt/KDE application but rather a GTK+ one. Some packager thinks
that if you use Firefox you obviously are willing not only to install the full
GNOME bag of stuff, but also ditching KDE in favor of it.
When I install Firefox, I am not asking for anything but Firefox. If I have
program X to browse directories, I wish I keep it as it is.
Firefox package(r) instead thinkis he knows more than I do.

2015-01-29 Thread Uqbar
Forget about bugs filed at Mozilla.
The notorious bug no.915 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=915) was
filed along with HTMLv4.01 standard.
They just sat down and wait until HTML5 became a standard and that bug went out
of meaning.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: Network Manager asks for the PIN even if it is memorized

2015-01-21 Thread Uqbar
@themroc, your workaround has no general applicability.
The GSM/3G modem PIN is a sensitive information and would get different
security level whether stored under /etc or in $HOME.
In the former case only root would know it and be bale to change or disable it.
In the latter case all users should know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1294689] Re: Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

2015-01-14 Thread Uqbar
It's clear that either none is paying attention to this or none is able to
apply an existing fix.
The fix is to edit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache (as root) and to make
it like this:

inode/directory=kde4-dolphin.desktop;

That's it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1381596] [NEW] Firefox misbehaves to open mailto URIs

2014-10-15 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

 How to reproduce.
1. Define firefox as default email client (I uninstalled kmail, so now I have
firefox %u) in Settings--Preferred applications--Email)

2. Open a webpage with a mailto link. I used
http://software.schmorp.de/pkg/libeio.html (see at the bottom).

3. Click on a mailto link.

 Current behaviour.
Firefox quickly opens tens of new empty tabs. I needed to open a local VTY
(CTRL-ALT-F1) to run killall -9 firefox as killing the application on the X
button was not working.

 Expected behaviour.
I have no idea. But the above behaviour is not the one we need.
I would like to have my GMail webpage opened to compose a message to the
intended recipient.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1312135] Re: Under KDE firefox uses nautilus instead of dolphin to handle directories

2014-07-10 Thread Uqbar
Jorge, I have another workaround that really works.
apt get purge nautilus
It worked for me with a KDE native environment.

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  1. Run firefox under kde
  2. Download a file with it
  3. Click the download icon
  4. Right click on the download object
  5. Ask to open the containing folder

I would expect the KDE file browser dolphin to open.

What instead happens the GNOME file browser nautilus is opened
without the needed icons. (see screenshot).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: NM asks non-administrative user for the PIN even though it's in the system-connections file

Then waht?

Title:
NM asks non-administrative user for the PIN even though it's in the
  system-connections file

Status in NetworkManager:
  Unknown
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

  I've configured a system-wide 3g broadband connection.
In fact it's there a file with all the provided details in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ .
  If I switch (log-out + log-in) to a non-administrative user, as soon as I
plug the USB 3G modem I get asked the modem PIN.
This is included into the mentioned file.
The objective is to allow a normal user to connect with the modem with out
the knowledge of username, password and PIN.
  The defails follow.

  $ lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description: Ubuntu 10.10
  Release: 10.10
  Codename: maverick

  How to reproduce the bug:
  1. Log in as an administrative user (the first one you create at installation
time)
  2. Plug the USB 3G modem into a port
  3. Go to System--Preferences--Newtwork Connections--Mobile Broadband
  4. Fill all the needed details (as well as the PIN)
  5. Check Automatically connect and Available to all users
  6. Test the connection is working.
  7. Check the file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/
  8. Reboot (maybe just logout and long is enough)
  9. Log in as the administrative user
  10. Plug the USB modem

  What happens
The system asks for the PIN. You can ignore this request. Then you can go to
the
netowrk icon and select the broadband connection and click it. This time the
PIN
is not required and the connection fires up.

  What is expected to happen
No PIN is required at the modem insertion and the connection fires up
automatically.

  Extra steps.
  11. Create another non administrative user which is capable to connect
through modems (groups dialout and dip).
  12. Switch to this new user
  13. Plug the USB modem.

  What happens
The system asks for aìthe PIN. You cannot ignore this request.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1312135] Re: Under KDE firefox uses nautilus instead of dolphin to handle directories

2014-05-17 Thread Uqbar
If you run KDE you should be using kubuntu-desktop instead of
ubuntu-desktop, while furiusisomount should require dolphin instead of
nautilus under KDE...
I think the problem here is about dependencies more than other stuff.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1312135] Re: Under KDE firefox uses nautilus instead of dolphin to handle directories

2014-05-14 Thread Uqbar
Temporary fix:

sudo apt-get purge nautilus

Be warned, the above command will purge (thus remove completely) the nautilus
file browser from your system.
If you, like me, are running KDE, then dolphin will do.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1294689] Re: Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

2014-03-20 Thread Uqbar
I have found this:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/219119/how-can-i-get-firefox-to-use-dolphin-instead-of-nautilus-by-defalut
Which fixes the problem.
As I have never installed GNOME (but maybe some components have been pulled in
by some GTK+ package), this is still a bug.

Title:
Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Under KDE, if from the download screen I ask to open the folder, I get
a strange application, called files, to be spawned to browse the
directory, instead of the more natural Dolphin. I am using Kubuntu.

  How to reproduce:
  1. Start Firefox under KDE
  2. Download any file from the Internet
  3. Open the Download page
  4. Within the downloaded file entry, click on the small folder icon on the
right and wait a little bit

  Expected result:
Dolphin file system browser to be started

  Actual result:
A programm called files from GNOME environment is started. Most of the
icons in the program are missing as I am running KDE from Kubuntu.
This happens 100% of the times.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1294689] [NEW] Firefox doesn't use dolphin to open download directory

2014-03-19 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

Under KDE, if from the download screen I ask to open the folder, I get a
strange application, called files, to be spawned to browse the
directory, instead of the more natural Dolphin. I am using Kubuntu.

How to reproduce:
1. Start Firefox under KDE
2. Download any file from the Internet
3. Open the Download page
4. Within the downloaded file entry, click on the small folder icon on the
right and wait a little bit

Expected result:
Dolphin file system browser to be started

Actual result:
A programm called files from GNOME environment is started. Most of the icons
in the program are missing as I am running KDE from Kubuntu.
This happens 100% of the times.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 588328] Re: Nautilus is not honoring the system-wide LC_COLLATE

2013-04-15 Thread Uqbar
Try this in an empty directory:
~ touch A b C d
Then try Nautilus in that directory with LC_COLLATE=C.
You'll see this order: A b C d instead of the right one: A C b d.
It doesn't matter whether the first character in the name is a . or not.
That simply sorts... sentence would require a quite complex and weird code in
the Nautilus sources, though.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1057615] [NEW] Firefox under KDE changes the mouse cursor

2012-09-27 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

I run Firefox under KDE with the GTK+ bridge configured to use the same theme
as KDE (QTCurve).
Firefox shows the normal mouse cursor while hovering on the application
window.
As soon as I open the firefox main menu, the mouse cursor changes shape, it
becomes smaller while still keeping the same theme as before.
It's impossible to capture such a bug with the screenshot tool.
I would expect the mouse pointer to keep it's shape/color/size all the time.

Title:
Firefox under KDE changes the mouse cursor

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I run Firefox under KDE with the GTK+ bridge configured to use the same theme
as KDE (QTCurve).
Firefox shows the normal mouse cursor while hovering on the application
window.
As soon as I open the firefox main menu, the mouse cursor changes shape, it
becomes smaller while still keeping the same theme as before.
It's impossible to capture such a bug with the screenshot tool.
I would expect the mouse pointer to keep it's shape/color/size all the time.

7. In DNS servers add your own DNS server (I used 8.8.8.8; 8.8.4.4)
8. Click on OK
9. From a terminal, as root, type: sudo vi
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/New\ DSL\ connection \ connection (or
whater is in your language).
10. Check in the IPv4 stanza that the configuration is the same as above
11. Enable the DSL conection from the widget.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 876461] [NEW] Under KDE w/ qtcurve tooltips are just black rectangles

2011-10-17 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

No KDE application is suffering this issue.
I've set up the GTK+ engine for KDE to use QtCurve as well.
I've also tried KDE both v4.7.1 and v4.7.2 and a few different styles.
