Title:
Steam game began crashing 2014-09-12 (cross-post Source bugtracker)

Status in steam package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am cross-posting this issue, which I reported to Valve's Source GIT
issue tracker, because it was suggested that the regression may be due
to Ubuntu Xorg changes rather than changes on the Steam end.

  Link: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues/1822

  Symptom --
DoD:Source loads normally. But after a few minutes of playing (not a specific
time as far as I can tell), the game freezes in place. A short clip (maybe a
quarter of a second) of the last audio that played then repeats over and over
on a loop. The process has to be killed manually with a QUIT or HUP signal for
good measure. This is a new issue that just arose today.

I have included system info, kernel log, and output when game is run
  from terminal and crashes.

Bug description:
  Dear "root owning" overlords,

When using grep recursively I only get local results:

  grep -R fish_t /home/noob/fish_game/*

  /home/noob/fish_game/fish.h: struct fish_t {
  /home/noob/fish_game/fish.c: struct fish_t eric_the_ fish;

  or worse:

  grep -R shark_t /home/noob/fish_game/*

  /home/noob/fish_game/fish.h: struct shark_t {
  /home/noob/fish_game/fish.c: struct shark_t_t mark_sw;

I declare this a bug for two reasons:

  1. The output is boring.
  2. The terminal has more than 2 lines!!! It's an unefficient use of my
screenspace.

I believe the reason for this is that the grep command only searches
locally for things I am actually looking for, I kind of expect the
results I get from my codebase and as such it removes any sense of
mystery or something new and exciting to spice up my dull geek
existence. That's boring, grep -R should also search amazon, so I get
  more exciting results such as:

Shark Season 1 Starring Steven Eckholdt, Nora Dunn, Patrick Fabian, et al.

This is less dull and also maximises the use of my terminal and hence
  increases my productivity.

Please can you change the grep warez to have this feature, and just
install it on my machine while I'm down the pub, after all you do
"erm, have root", so it should be easy for you to do :-)

  Thanks Ubuntu devs!!!

I frequently encounter people who misunderstand this, and I don't blame
them. In Windows, you can connect to your remote desktop as long as
you're allowed to do so. You don't have to be logged in before you can
log in. This seems obvious for a remote desktop solution. In Ubuntu,
however, the user who owns the desktop you wish to see, have to be
logged on first. This solution is quite appropriate, but the naming
should be altered to reflect the difference between sharing your desktop
with someone else and being able to work from a remote location.

Let me underscore that I'm not proposing this because of Windows. I
actually think the name "Remote desktop" itself implies that I can
connect to my own desktop from somewhere else. "Desktop sharing" would
be much more intelligible, I think. I share my desktop with someone, so
obviously, I have to be logged on first.

/etc/passwd. All users are able to login, so this is an annoyance

Status in Gnome Powermanager:
  Fix Released
Status in “acpi-support” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This is similar to bug # 52345, but not the same...

It started to happen in the last few weeks. I do not know why.

  Steps:
  1. Unplug AC
  2. Wait for a couple of minutes
  3. Plug AC

  Actual result:
shuts down automatically with a message "battery is critically low"...
(happened about 20 minutes ago)

  user.log has these two entries:
Nov 4 16:03:46 localhost gnome-power-manager: Shutting down computer because
we are critically low for the primary battery
Nov 4 16:03:46 localhost gnome-power-manager: Shutting down computer because
we are critically low for the primary battery

  Expected Result:
should not shut down... battery was full when it was unplugged. It did not
drain. The battery can hold charge for about 1 hour without AC.

  Reproduceable:
Occured twice in the last few weeks (not always / seldom)

  I'm using an up-to-date Dapper.

*Edit: Discovered the bug in this pargraph affects all moved programs,
so please disregard* Also (don't know if it's related), I have both a
top and a bottom panel (Mint only has a bottom panel on default, but I
added a top one). When Evo is not maximized, if I move it to another
desktop, rather than respecting the top panel, Evo places itself so
that the minimize / maximize / close bar at the top of the Evo window
is hidden behind the top panel.

Happy to provide other pertinent info about my system; please just
ask. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

reload_passwd uses fgetpwent rather than getpwent, ignoring
  /etc/nsswitch.conf

Status in D-Bus interfaces for querying and manipulating user account
information:
  Fix Released
Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In daemon.c, reload_passwd opens /etc/passwd and reads it with
fgetpwent. This only finds local accounts whereas using getpwent
would respect the settings in /etc/nsswitch.conf and also find
accounts provided via ldap, nis, etc. This means that login screens
(eg, lightdm) don't display the full list of users, only those in
/etc/passwd. All users are able to login, so this is an annoyance
  rather than a serious problem.

accountsservice 0.6.14-1git1 in oneiric (haven't checked other
  versions).

Title:
New or modified contacts sync incorrectly to Google "My Contacts"

Status in The Evolution Mail & Calendaring Tool:
  Fix Released
Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Evolution was not properly assigning groups to new or modified
  contacts.

Specifically, new contacts would often land in "Other Contacts"
instead of "My Contacts" when using the quick "Add to Contacts..." for
  email addresses.

Additionally existing Google "My Contacts" that were modified in
Evolution, would find themselves in the Google "Personal" group
online, which is Google's privacy group meaning those contacts would
no longer show up on other contact-synced devices like Android phones
and tablets without explicit search for the contact on those devices.

  There is a patch upstream,

  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663324

Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 and just noticed that gedi does not launch from the
command line , but launches flawlessly from the dash
How do I reproduce the problem :
1. vibhav@vibhav-VirtualBox:~$ gedit path/to/file
#yeah its absolutely blank , no
output is displayed
2. When I launch gedit using dash , it launches perfectly but I get some output
on the terminal
"** CRITICAL **: _gedit_app_get_window_in_viewport: assertion `GEDIT_IS_WINDOW
(window)' failed"

3. And when I close the gedit session (launched by the dash) , my
terminal (from which I launched gedit which was unresponsive) exits to
bash

apt-cache policy gedit returns
