[Desktop-packages] [Bug 711429] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-12-05 Thread WarriorIng64
Just got this crash on Precise after switching to a workspace with
Nautilus as the top window and pressing Alt+F4 repeatedly to close all
windows. Nautilus froze and grayed out for a few moments, then while
asking me if I wanted to force quit it it crashed before I could click
anything.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 857089] Re: suggestion: nautilus tweak in ambience theme

2011-11-18 Thread WarriorIng64
Hi, I produced the changes to make that modified theme...I was actually
going to come here a bit later to suggest incorporating my changes into
Ambiance for Precise, but I have no idea what I will need to do to make
this possible. It seems like it's catching on with the people I shared
my changes with...

Bug description:
  hi,

after reviewing the current beta release of oneiric, I found that
there are mostly great design improvements. Just the nautilus theme
looks quite weired. the sidebar looks like a cancer IN MY OPINION.
that is given because the sidebar comes with a different color schema
  in the Ambience theme.

The most important part is that the sidebar does feel like a part of
nautilus and not like a unthemed plugin

  My suggestions:
  1) Toolbar, Sidebar and Pane with the same color and/or gradiant
  2) ...or... The upper part of the sidebar could have the same color/gradiant
as the toolbar and so acting as it would be part of the toolbar (although
it's not)..

for suggestion one, I attached a possible tweak that I gimped. The
upper part of the sidebar continues the gradiant of the toolbar and
the rest of the sidebar continues uni-colored.

  ---

  Desired solution:

Update Nautilus theme to follow the attached tweak suggestion image
  (suggestion 1 above)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 857089] Re: suggestion: nautilus tweak in ambience theme

2011-11-18 Thread WarriorIng64
I just made my changed version that way because:

1) I had no idea of what I was doing mostly (main reason), yet I just wanted to
fix it
2) I like how the top of the sidebar integrates seamlessly with the bottom of
the titlebar
3) To me, there's no problem between the sidebar and the toolbar, and I think
it gives it a nice almost-3D effect. I'm not sure why the toolbar gradient is
considered an all-or-nothing proposition, but that's not for me to decide

At any rate, I'll just leave it at that and watch this bug for progress.
I still think this is much improved over what's currently in Oneiric,
IMHO.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 883023] Re: Banshee silently crashes during play

2011-11-05 Thread WarriorIng64
Eventually I got fed up with Banshee and switched over to Rhythmbox. The
latter does not have the same stability issues (i.e., I can actually
listen to my music or online radio for longer than 10-20 minutes at a
time), not to mention I appreciate Rhythmbox's better GNOME Shell
integration.

I still have Banshee installed, though, if anyone wants me to help out
with additional debugging work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 29894] Re: can't take screenshot when menu on panel is opened

2011-10-25 Thread WarriorIng64
I'm also getting this issue in Oneiric, which I just checked out after
seeing http://askubuntu.com/questions/72208/print-screen-key-doesnt-
work-if-a-drop-down-menu-is-active . Interesting to note is that the
Print Screen key works if menus on the top panel in GNOME Shell are
open. I haven't checked to see whether this is a problem with Unity yet,
though.

I also just took a look at the upstream bug out of curiosity, and I
don't see any attention paid to it for over 2 years now.

there seems to be a dispute if that is a bug or an intended design

seem to agree that not being able to take screenshots is not intended

a known workaround for taking screenshots of menus is to directly launch the

  gnome-screenshot --delay=5

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 841409] Re: GEdit is the only choise as Calendar application in Default Applications dialog

2011-10-04 Thread WarriorIng64
I can confirm this. I now do have Thunderbird with Lightning 1.0b7
installed and working, but it still won't show in Default Applications.
This seems like a regression from Natty where Evolution supported
calendars (including Google Calendar) right out of the box, while
Thunderbird needs a plugin manually installed by the user (two if you
want Google Calendar support, as in my case).

Pranesh, if you are able to consistently reproduce these crashes (I
haven't been able to do so for a while now, despite my best efforts), if
you could kindly look at comment #22 above and get us a backtrace with
nautilus-dbg installed, I imagine that would still be VERY helpful.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 856042] Re: Installation of Labyrinth fails with no error message given

2011-09-23 Thread WarriorIng64
And now after this morning's partial upgrade, I lost hplip and cannot
get it back. This is getting extremely annoying when I lose and cannot
reinstall packages that I use on a daily basis. The Software Center, at
the very least, should show a window explaining why the (re)installation
of affected packages fails rather than silently mocking you.

** Attachment added: Video of the problem, using hplip as an example.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/856042/+attachment/2446976/+files/SoftwareCenterFailedInstallation.webm

** Description changed:

When I try to install the Labyrinth mind-mapping software (labyrinth
0.4.1-0ubuntu5 as indicated in the Software Center), it appears to
install at first, except the progress bar fills up very rapidly then
goes back to being an Install button, with no visible explanation
given of why the installation failed.

Trying to install Labyrinth from apt-get in a terminal also fails,
  producing the following output:

Here's a comparison screenshot of the same area when using the Ambiance
theme, in which case the icons are clearly visible.

...actually, I had not. And restarting Thunderbird does restore those
icons to how they're supposed to look. Thanks for the tip.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 854495] Re: since update 1:3.1.92-0ubuntu1 preview of text files look ugly

2011-09-21 Thread WarriorIng64
The version numbers of the update and my package matched, so I double-
checked my Nautilus and sure enough, the problem's not there anymore.
Probably just needed to restart my machine for the fix to take effect.
At any rate, looks fixed now to me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 821342] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2011-09-15 Thread WarriorIng64
Lukasz, not sure now if I can do that. After this morning's updates 3D
stopped working entirely for me, and unfortunately it was Unity 3D's
Alt+Tab that I was often using to trigger the crash. I am having trouble
getting Unity 2D to do the same. Or maybe I was just (un)lucky before.

Nevertheless, I did get the nautilus-dbg package and I will be running
nautilus from gdb from here on out, just in case.

What do you know, just happened again to me under similar circumstances.
Maybe this is reproducible for me?

Also, could bug #849473 be a duplicate of this? It's not marked as such,
but it's the first thing to come up when I do a Google search for the
bug title.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 836669] Re: gnome-screenshot only captures wallpaper

2011-09-13 Thread WarriorIng64
I had this behavior occur while I was still testing Oneiric Beta 1 in a
VirtualBox virtual machine on my Natty install. Since Natty started
freezing, I installed the 9/9/2011 daily build of 11.10 alongside Natty
straight on my desktop itself. I have not been able to get back into
Natty since grub no longer shows on my display (hence cannot switch OS
at boot), but while running Oneiric on actual hardware I have no longer
been able to reproduce this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 821302] Re: Lack of emoticons

I'm taking this bug to mean that Empathy should add support for all of
the graphical emoticons that are available in other IM applications. I
can say I am experiencing this problem as well, as one of my friends
with Trillian likes sending me all sorts of emoticons that I can't make
out on my end. Whether this could actually be considered a bug, I'm not
sure.
