This gets more urgent as the workaround to install the xpi addon to get

  Under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS I have created NAS access by using 'gvfs-mount
  smb://nasdo/public'. It is linked to '/run/user/1000/gvfs/ als smb-
  share:server=nasdo,share=public' and I have created a Symbolic Link to
  this point with 'ln -s /run/user/1000/gvfs/smb-
  share\:server\=nasdo\,share\=public ~/nasdo_public'. Using this link
  folders, and files on the NAS have been accessable with r/w from
  Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. This is, what I expect from 16.04, too.

  Since I have upgraded to ubuntu 16.04 LTS a few days ago, all the
  links seem to be the same, but opening a file does not work. It comes
  to an input/output error. I can use the links to folders to navigate,
  but there is no chance to open e.g. an LibreOffice Calc Sheet, nor do
  I have access to mail folder via Thunderbird.

  Using gvfs-mount creates a shared folder in Nautilus called public.
  Using this way to access the NAS, and open the Calc file works with
  ubuntu 16.04 LTS fine.

  Locking to the syslog while trying to open a file creates the following
entries:

  On Ubuntu 12.04 gnome classic, the gnome panel will always display
  when playing videos on full screen mode.

  Steps to reproduce:
    At login prompt change to gnome classic.
    Open a browser, go to youtube.com and select a video.
    Click the 'Full Screen' button to maximize.
    Gnome panel should disappear, instead it's still displayed.

  Attached screenshot.

  Edit: It behaves like this even when playing videos locally with a
  media player such as vlc. The gnome panel initially disappears but
  reappears after a couple of seconds.

  As a workaround before playing any videos on full screen, set the
  gnome panel to hidden. It will still show a 1px white border though.

  echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/dell-laptop::touchpad/brightness
  To turn it off
  echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/dell-laptop::touchpad/brightness

Title:
  Use a VPN connection and/or proxy setting automatically when connected
  to a certain network

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

  Hi there!
  This is actually a feature request.

  The use case:
  When I am at my university I need to use a given vpn network and proxy. I
think many people are in a similar situation where they must use a given set of
settings only when connected to a given network.

  The idea:
  The proxy settings allow the setup of "places" which are essentially a saved
proxy setting one can easily switch to. This is a great feature which could
also be implemented into Network Manager.

  The proxy settings "places" should be extended to Network Manager and
  there include vpn connections. They should be tied to a set of network
  connections. So when I connect to a cetain LAN or WLAN (even
  automatically) Network Manager switches to the corresponding "place",
  so that my vpn connection and proxy settings are enabled
  automatically.

  The gain:
  Right now when I go to my university and power up the laptop, Network Manager
automatically connects to the university's WLAN but I then have to enable the
vpn and proxy settings manually. When later connecting to my home network, I
have to change the proxy settings again. With my suggested feature that would
all happen automatically.

  Patch "51" in the gnome-settings-daemon source code now disables auto-
  locking of the screen, when the machine goes into suspend. This policy
  makes some sense for users who use auto-login and don't have any other
  security measures in place.

  But it is counter-productive for users who have a boot-time password
  and/or encrypted file systems. A quick web search shows that other
  users are reporting the same problem, without a good work-around
  available.

  I understand that encrypted file systems are an advanced system
  configuration, so I am not going to argue with you about the default
  policy. As a default, it is probably reasonable as is. But please
  allow a configuration option; even if that means manually changing
  dconf settings. The users that are affected by this bug are presumably
  sufficiently technical to know how to edit dconf settings.

Title:
  Update to 1.2.6

Status in “usb-modeswitch” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Update usb-modeswitch to 1.2.6
  PTS changelog:
  usb-modeswitch (1.2.6+repack0-1) unstable; urgency=low

* New 1.2.6 upstream release
  - Several changes to streamline compiling as part of larger
projects, mostly in Makefile;
  - fix compiler warnings appearing in certain build environments;
  - new Quanta procedure for Quanta 1K3 LTE;
  - fix for error with cascaded hubs in dispatcher script.

* Repack the upstream tarball:
  - Drop the code copy of jimtcl.

* Replace 04_cope_with_repack patch by one to to use the
  package-provided jimsh and libjim.
* Bump usb-modeswitch-data depends to 20130607.

  usb-modeswitch (1.2.5+repack0-1) experimental; urgency=low

* New 1.2.5 upstream release
  - Initial support for MBIM devices, use with data package >= 20121109;
  - checking for these is the automatic default, new parameter
NoMBIMCheck prevents the check per device in case of problems; new
global option to set "delay_use" of usb-storage (as low values may
prevent mode-switching);
  - fix for handling multi-configuration devices (thanks to Bjørn Mork
for advice).

* Repack the upstream tarball:
  - Drop the code copy of jimtcl.

* Bump usb-modeswitch-data depends to 20121109.
* Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.4 and debhelper B-D to 9 without
  changes needed.

  usb-modeswitch (1.2.4+repack0-1) experimental; urgency=low

* New 1.2.4 upstream release
  - Additional interface checks to prevent sending UFI commands to
non-storage interfaces (prompted by more ambiguous device IDs
popping up);
  - Change in SierraMode for handling newer devices which caused an
error abort before;
  - Makefile fix for parallelized make runs.

* Repack the upstream tarball:
  - Drop the code copy of jimtcl.

* Drop patch to disable logging as was (temporarily) enabled in 1.2.3.
* Refresh patches.

Status in “pm-utils” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  On Trusty (beta), while trying to diagnose an issue with the wireless
  not connecting upon resume from standby, I discovered an invalid check
  in '/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless'.  The script checks
  '/sys/class/net/$1/device/enable' to see if the wireless device is
  enabled, failing to perform any configuration if this sys file does
  not exist. That happens to be the case for me (intel wireless), which
  the actual location is '/sys/class/net/$1/device/enabled' (enable ->
  enabled).

  Changing the script to use the correct location has not fixed my
  wireless resume issue, but perhaps it is contributing to wireless
  issues for others. My wireless power-saving is correctly turned off
  upon resume now, though (it would get stuck in power-saving mode
  sometimes).
