[Desktop-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2014-11-22 Thread Ar
The networkmanager connects at my place to BSSID none. None does not
exists, so the connection is lost and restarted again, and again and
again.

The relevant log is:

(wlan0): roamed from BSSID (none) ((none)) to 7C: (Zadel6)
wpa_supplicant[1076]: wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation completed with 7c: [PTK=CCMP
GTK=TKIP]
wlan0: deauthenticated from 7c:(Reason: 15=4WAY_HANDSHAKE_TIMEOUT)
wpa_supplicant[1076]: message repeated 6 times: [ wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation
completed with 7c:[PTK=CCMP GTK=TKIP]]
wpa_supplicant[1076]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=7c: reason=15
 Connection disconnected (reason 15)

By chance I found the cause. My Cisco router

Firmware Version: epc3928a-E10-5-v302r125572-131030c-ZIG
MAC Address:
Current Time: Sat. Nov 22 11:42:30 2014
Router Mode:IPv4

has two bands 2,4 Ghz and 5Ghz, both with the same BSSID Zadel6.

In this situation the networkmanager is switching from BSSID Zadel6 to none,
none to none and none to Zadel6.
If I disable one of the bands or give it a different BSSID, the switching
disappears and the connection is not lost anymore.

If it correct to conclude that the networkmanager is getting confused by
the two bands on the same BSSID?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2013-08-24 Thread ar
I apologize if this is the wrong bug.

I do have the same problem. On my machine the Networkmanager links up
with a SSID that is the strongest access point (of my neighbors) , but
that access point is not configured. Hence, the link dies, takes some
time to recover and then the sequence starts again after two minutes.
The bug is that Networkmanager should not make a connection to a not
configured access point even if that has a better signal.

In debug mode.

The wrong SSID:
wpa_supplicant[1259]: wlan0: BSS: Expire BSS 13 due to age
 wpa_supplicant[1259]: wlan0: BSS: Remove id 13 BSSID 00:1a:70:47:b0:de SSID
'linksys'

The right SSID:
wpa_supplicant[1259]: wlan0: 0: b0: : : : ssid='Zadel' wpa_ie_len=0
rsn_ie_len=20 caps=0xc11 level=10

With the command iwevent the two minute scan reveals itself.

So, if there is no stronger access point than the configured one, the
problem does not surface.

This problems exists up to kernel 3.11.0-3-generic #8-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug
23 16:49:15 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2013-08-24 Thread ar
I think there is a second bug connected with comment 51. That is that
Networkmanager THINKS that an access point is stronger. I checked my comment an
other machine. On that machine the wrong SSID 'linksys' was NOT stronger. On my
machine it was.
After a rescan the strength of the connection with the wrong SSID dropped on my
machine too and my problems went (temporarily) away.

So perhaps this bug is ALSO triggered by an other bug that gives false
readings of signal strength and triggers an incomplete connection.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2013-08-24 Thread ar
Adding to comment 52. The frequencies of the access point are the same.
In this example Channel 11. Is the networkmanager getting confused and
makes it a connection to the incorrect access point? All evidence points
in this direction. It explains also the wild changing of the signal
strength.

A work around is to change the channel of you own access point to an
unused channel. If there is one.

wlan0 Scan completed :
  Cell 01 - Address: :
Channel:11
Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11)
Quality=70/70  Signal level=10 dBm
Encryption key:on
ESSID:"Zadel"

  Cell 04 - Address: :
Channel:11
Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11)
Quality=67/70  Signal level=-43 dBm
Encryption key:off
ESSID:"Sitecom

Title:
NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd
  don't -- ath9k

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

I have Dell studio XPS 13 running:
  Description: Ubuntu 9.10
  Release: 9.10

  with wifi card (lspci):
06:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless
Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

that works (tries to) with ath9k module.

It connects to my access point and works ok however, It disconnects every 2-3
min saying (in dmesg):
  [ 311.600306] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:1d:68:0c:97:63 (capab=0x411
status=0 aid=2)
and then automatically reconnects... I have tried different drivers and other
things

Interestingly when I right-clicked on network manger applet, select ¨disable
networking¨ and then set up everything myself on console using iwconfig and
dhclient. IT WORKS!!!
  no disconnections
wpa_supplicant is still running in a background but not doing anything (my
wifi has WEP encryption).

I´ve seen some similar reports in Internet but they seem to think that
it is a driver problem when to me it looks like a NetworkManager
  issue...

  Hope it helps

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 495981] Re: NM disconnects Wi-Fi every 2 minutes but iwconfig+dhclient and wicd don't -- ath9k

2013-08-24 Thread ar
I switched to channel 13. Less problems but if the Internet connection
is (shorter) blocked I get:

Or:
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Device or resource busy

Or:
wlan0 Scan completed :
  Cell 01 - Address: B0:B2:DC:10:33:6C
Channel:13
Frequency:2.472 GHz (Channel 13)
Quality=70/70  Signal level=10 dBm
Encryption key:on
ESSID:"Zadel"

Cell 06 - Address: 00:0C:F6:42:DD:9A
Channel:11
Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11)
Quality=70/70  Signal level=10 dBm
Encryption key:off
ESSID:"Sitecom"

The Quality is the same and that should not be possible. So, something
very low level is going on. It is beyond my capabilities to debug this.

The problem is driver bound. That is, some drivers never have this
problem. At my place an Intel N2230 driver. Other drivers have a lot of
problems. That my home Rtl8192se drivers.

So, it is still not clear what causes this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1175705] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-05-04 Thread ar
Solution: Remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Problem cause: Upgrading from older Ubuntu versions leaves the fglrx driver
installed in xorg.conf.
In ubuntu 13.04 this gives problems. Do not know why and how.

Installing the vesa driver is not a solution.

Tip for the developers: Remove xorg.conf during installation if fglrx
fails to load.

Bug can be closed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1175705] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-05-04 Thread ar
This bug happened again without a xorg.conf file.

And on a second thinkpad with an intel driver it happened as well. No
xorg.file present.

On both machines starting is sometimes fine and sometimes hangs.

And a third machine with the closed Nvidea driver I see no problems.

So, it is related to open source drivers one way or another and is not
driver specific.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1175705] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-05-09 Thread ar
It looks like this. After:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
the machine will reboot fine the next time.

But, the second reboot gives a black screen.
Remove the lock and reboot again. The screen comes up fine.

Does this make sense?

  Bluetooth mouse kills unity clicking

Bug description:
After the update of unity around November 24, having a bluetooth mouse
(Logitech Mx 1000) connected to Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits, kills the mouse clicking
in Unity. That is, I can not start a program, not even a running program. Once
this happens, the windows behave funny, selecting buttons by it self. For
instance, choosing when to install updates in updates screen.
  Ubuntu is not usable anymore.

I did a complete fresh reinstall to get rid of the problem. Everything was
fine until I managed to get the bluetooth mouse connected. But that is a
problem on it own. Only if the bluetooth is the first found device, it will
connect. I think!
  But after that disaster strikes.

Disabling the bluetooth mouse fixes all problems. But working without
  mouse is not that comfortable.

I did not have any mouse problem in 11.04.

Sorry, I I just selected libunity to report the bug. I do not know the
  source of the problem.

Bug description:
  Test case:
  1. install the new nautilus from -proposed and logout/login
  2. ensure that the testcase below doesn't trigger the bug anymore

When I type in Nautilus to select files by name, often the wrong file
is selected, as if my typing had been cut short or re-evaluated
partway through. A screencast is attached.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
  Package: nautilus 1:3.1.92-0ubuntu2
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-11.18-generic 3.0.4
  Uname: Linux 3.0.0-11-generic x86_64
  ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu1

  Date: Fri Sep 23 12:50:09 2011
  ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus
  InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Beta amd64 (20110413)
  SourcePackage: nautilus
UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-09-23 (0 days ago)

  (from duplicate bug #872090)---
  To reproduce:
On a previous version of ubuntu (Natty, Maverick) open nautilus.
Click in the file and folder area.
Press backspace until you are in the root of the file system.
Type 'e'. 'etc' should be selected. Press enter to open /etc/
Notice the search box disappears and /etc opens.
Type 'uf' 'ufw' should be selected. Notice you did not have to clear out the
'e' you typed into the search last time. Press backspace to clear the character
'f' from the current search, 'uf'. Notice the character 'f' is deleted and that
you are still in /etc/.
Type 'd' and press enter to open /etc/udev.

Now, try the same test on Oneiric:
  On a Oneiric, open nautilus.
Click in the file and folder area.
Press backspace until you are in the root of the file system.
Type 'et'. Notice that the search box disappears after typing the second
letter (Not expected, a bug).
Press enter to open the currently selected /etc.
Type 'ud' and notice that no search comes up (this is a bug).
  Close nautilus and reopen.
Type 'docu' to select documents, press backspace to delete 'u' and press
enter. Notice the search works as expected.
Press backspace to navigate up (this is working normal)
Type 'Public'. Notice search still works as expected. Press enter.
Press backspace until you are in the root of the filesystem.

Apparently, search works properly in the home folder, but not in other
folders!
On my machine, I'm using btrfs with (the installer set up) subvolumes for /
and /home. However, this bug is still the same for root's home folder, which is
only on the / subvolume!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1002788] Re: Using the touchscreen breaks normal device left clicking

2012-07-28 Thread Ar-Paramir
I can confirm this bug, BUT for Fedora 17 x64. So it's not a distro-specific
issue, the bug might be somewhere in GTK3. For me it's exactly the same as has
been described here. With one important notice. NOT only Nautilus! In System
Settings window, when you click on System Info and move the mouse (just move
without any clicking) above the information, it's selected. And also in Torcs
Car Simulator the menu items are selected with hovering (I mean I don't need to
make a click at all, just to put the mouse over and that's it, the menu item
opens, and it isn't a normal behaviour). It seems like the left button of the
mouse is always pressed or like that. This issue is not a rule, when I restart,
it's OK for a while, and I still don't know the reason of the bug's activation.
First I thought because of plugging in a USB-HDD, but I'm not sure now.
One more important notice. My machine is a monoblock (MSI All-In-One PC) with
multitouch screen.
Unfortunately I don't know how to trace the bug to see the technical details
and post a reasonable bug-report.

original screen and if deleted disappears from new folder

Bug description:
  Affected version
Nautilus 3.38 on Ubuntu 20.10 (but I also saw this bug some months and
versions ago)

I don't know if it's a specific Ubuntu bug or an upstream one, I reported it
1.5 month ago on Gitlab Gnome without any answer nor review:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/1723

Resume: File moved with "Cut" from a window with an active search
filter, and pasted in another folder on a second Nautilus window (not
a subfolder), still appears on the first original screen (list is not
automatically updated) - and if deleted from here, actually they
disappear from the new folder !

It can occur to loose important documents - I often make direct
  shift-deletes, without recycler storage...

  Steps to reproduce
I open a Nautilus window, go to a folder and make a search filter, for
example 20 files appear on the window which name contains my search filter.

If I select one of them, make Cut / Ctrl-X, open a new Nautilus
window, go to another folder (which is not a subfolder of the first)
and make Paste / Ctrl-V, it wells copy the file in the new folder.

If I switch to the first Nautilus window with the original folder and
search filter active, the moved file still appears on the list and I
can open it. I think I've made an error (Ctrl-C instead of Ctrl-X) so
I shift-delete it, it disappears from the list and only 19 files
  remain.

  Current behavior
But… If I go to the second Nautilus window and the 2nd folder, the file has
also disappeared from it ! File in the first window was "transformed" to a link
instead of being removed, and suppressing it also deletes the file in its new
folder - in my case, I lost several documents like this because of Shift-Delete
and not trash use.

  Expected behavior
After Cut - Paste, in the case of 2 Nautilus windows are opened, the file(s)
moved from the first one should not be still visible in the search list, there
should be an automatic refresh.

If I do a Copy-Paste instead of a Cut-Paste, problem does not occur:
delete only removes file in the fist original folder, not on the
second. If I close the search filter, it's also OK, file(s) moved no
more visible. And of course, if after Cut I stay in the same Nautilus
window and go to another folder to paste, no problem: bug only occurs
in case of a second window opened.

Thanks in advance and best regards.
