[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1448312] Re: black screen after suspend

2015-04-29 Thread ealthuis
with me it is a black screen at start, it allows passwords, but does not
change to correct backgroud with panel and launcher.

However thi is on a laptop, when I close the lid system hiberates, then
when I open the lid, the proper screen is presented with the password
request.

The system appears fully functional.

  black screen after suspend

  Confirmed

Bug description:
Upgraded to 15.04 yesterday, all packages upgraded.

The screen is black whenever I resume from suspend. This happens

am able to Crtl + Alt + F1 to a new screen, and sudo reboot from
there, but nothing is visible while I type. When I reboot, the machine
  starts and runs normally.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1436535] [NEW] clicking on a launcher icon does not switch to any workspace

2015-03-25 Thread ealthuis
Public bug reported:

My computers are set up with four workspaces. In left top I have
Firefox, in right top VirtualBox, in left bottom Calc and in right
bottom is Thunderbird. To move from one workspace to another I just
click the appropriate icon in the launcher. This works flawlessly on
all desktops. However on the laptop it does not. I have to click on
the workspace icon in the launcher to move to another workspace.
Clicking an icon does nothing.

Now I was asked to provice what I did to cause this, step by step,
unfortunately I have no idea what either happened in Unity or what I
might have done to cause this.

I am reasonably sure it was that way when as a result of the "no panel no
launcher" problem as corrected in bug # 1319146
I entered the indicated command which gave me back the Unity screen that was
missing at that time.

Please provide me with any command required to get to the bottom of
this, I will do anything I can to correct this bug.

I may add, that it does not in any other way show any problems. I can
do any work on the laptop, except show off Ubuntu Linux to others who
may be interested in switching from Windows.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1319146] [NEW] new installation of 14.04LTS, no panel or launcher

2014-05-13 Thread ealthuis
Public bug reported:

In reference to bug # 2304568, lost launcher and panel in 14.04LTS
Beta2,

I ended up sending the motherboard for repairs. This has been repaired
and installed as of today. I also installed a brand new 120GB SSD upon
which I installed a newly downloaded version od 14.04LTS. I kept my
/home on another drive, but for that it is essentially a new
installation. System started, asked for password and at that time the
panel was visible with date, time and the shutdown button. After
entering password system came up without launcher and also without
panel. I changed density on the screen just incase launcher was off the
screen, no luck.

This now has become a serious problem, as I cannot acces any of the
files on my hard diks, nor can I use this system for any work.

I also do not know how I can send any bug info other than this
description, I have no access to Terminal, only "all settings" is
available and all icons do their job when requested.

I would really appreciate it if this were looked in quickly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1307198] [NEW] Bluetooth shuts down contact with mouse

2014-04-13 Thread ealthuis
Public bug reported:

My Dell Vostro 3555 purchased in Sept 2011 is equipped with Bluetooth.

I used a bluetooth mouse from then on and never lost contact between
computer and mouse, not even when changing the battery in the mouse.
Since installing 1404LTS Beta 2 the connection is shut down when the
computer is shut down and sometimes when the computer goes into
hibernation. This results in having to manually goto the Bluetooth GUI
and the mouse and force the connection.

The Bluetooth GUI has three on/off buttons, bluetooth , visibility on
Ubuntu-0 and mouse. The mouse button is off wenever I start the system.
This did not happen in any Ubuntu version of Linux I have had on this
computer, other than in 14.04LTS. This is a nuisance, and prevents me
from demonstrating how good Ubuntu Linux really is.

Having to sit in a demo and manually pressing a button on the mouse
until the on/off button turns on immediately turns off any interest a
newbie might have.

A quick fix would be appreciated.

At this point I have no idea od what corroborating info I need to
provide, but will send anything asked for.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 365627] Re: Hibernation restarts automatically

2014-03-06 Thread ealthuis
This is no longer a problem, as hibernation does not exist, except whe
closing a laptop. In that case it works as intended, when the laptop is
opened the screen returns, asks for a password and is ready for work.

Bug description:
Installed Jaunty release candidate 21 April 2009, tested for
'hibernate", it went into hibernation OK, but immediately restarted,
instead of staying asleep until awakened by using a key or mouse
  movement.

This problem has been around since Intrepid Ibex.

I increased swapfile from 1.59 GB to 4.0 GB, twice the amount of Ram.
Entered hibernation, and it seemed to write things to disk, but then
restarted immediately asking for login. Entering PSW would return computer to
status before hibernate was started, however entering cancel appeared to make
it go to sleep. When I powered the computer up again, it restarted as if
Hibernation did not exist.

I may add, that the 5GHz never worked, from the day I Installed Ubuntu

came with W7. I only ran W7 for a few days before improving the laptop
to Linux.
