[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1988488] Re: Screen freeze before the login screen (if the third party software option was selected)
This appears to be fixed in Daily (tested 10/15/22) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1988488 Title: Screen freeze before the login screen (if the third party software option was selected) Status in GNOME Shell: New Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: [ Workaround ] 1. Install *without* the third-party option. 2. sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras 3. sudo apt remove gstreamer1.0-vaapi [ Original Description ] The problem started to appear 2 weeks ago after one of my daily updates. It also happens after I re-install the system from a freshly downloaded ISO file. The system freezes at the moment, it starts the gnome display manager. I file the bug-report after a partial upgrade just before I will reboot the system. If needed I can reboot in recovery mode, since the gnome display manager is not started in that case. I tried the continue button without effect and also "apt upgrade" and "apt dist-upgrade" do have the same effect I run the VM from the Host-OpenZFS file system, so I can restore to before the update. Recently I use a Virtualbox snapshot to restore the system to before the update/upgrade. If you need log files, let me know. I've been dealing with this bug since 12.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070004] Re: For applications using simplified save dialogues, selecting a destination through Other... saves to /HOME directory
This bug is still present on today's daily build of Ubuntu 13.04. Tested with Openshot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070004 Title: For applications using simplified save dialogues, selecting a destination through Other... saves to /HOME directory Status in “gtk+2.0” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Certain applications, like DeVeDe or Openshot, use a simplified save dialogue box. From these simplified lists, the user is presented with some default directories to save in (Video, Desktop, Home, etc). Selecting any of these destinations from this menu works as expected. However, if the user wishes to save to some other location besides the ones suggested, they must click on Other... which displays the full, normal save dialogue. When this is used, it does not matter which directory the user chooses - the application will save to the /HOME directory. I have tested this using DeVeDe on Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit (fresh install) and 12.10 32-bit (upgrade install). This *is not* a bug with DeVeDe, but it was the first application I found that was using the simplified save dialogue (and I also was able to reproduce this using Openshot, which does the same thing). If the application uses the normal save dialogue box, everything works as expected. Please help me provide the information needed for this bug report. I do not know what package to file this against, or what other information that needs to be attached. It would also be helpful if someone can reproduce this. I have not filed a bug report because I did not know what to attach or what package to file against. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is a video demonstrating the problem using DeVeDe. I tell DeVeDe to export a video to my Desktop from the defaults menu, which works as expected. I then tell it to save it to my Desktop, but using the Other... menu. I would expect it to say that there's a file already there with the same name, and offer to overwrite it. Instead, it saves the file to my /Home directory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O5O6XnRTisfeature=youtu.be To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1070004/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 919767] Re: brasero stays in memory after use
This is also the case for me on my 12.04 32-bit system but *only* if I double-click on an ISO and launch Brasero that way. If I open Brasero *first*, tell it I want to burn an image, and then choose the ISO, Brasero closes as expected when I'm finished. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919767 Title: brasero stays in memory after use Status in A disc burning application for gnome 2: New Status in “brasero” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Basero 3.2.0 as it installs from the ISO. Synaptic says installed version is 3.2.0-0ubuntu6 Using either ubuntu studio 10.04 or 12.04(alpha dec19) if brasero is started by a right click on a toc file (or maybe a cue file) it opens a dialogue to burn a cd from. I can cancel or burn a cd, but in either case ps x still shows brasero running after the dialogue has gone when the application has completed it's task successfully. trying to burn a cd from a second toc file or even open brasero from the main menu then fails until brasero has been killed (kill pid). This is not a problem when opening an audio file (wav, ogg etc.) as the main brasero window is opened. I think that because the burn dialogue normally would not exit brasero it doesn't exit here either, however, the main window is not shown to exit from. This is important to UbuntuStudio because the main DAW (Ardour) puts out toc files as a finished product and brasero is needed (since the loss of gcdmaster) to actually print the file to CD. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1062166] Re: screen goes dark although screensaver is switched off
I'm not certain which one thing fixed it, but here's what I did: Open dconf editor from the Dash Click on the Find, and type Power. Here's what I've got set: idle-brightness = 0 idle-dim-time = 0 sleep-display-ac = 0 sleep-display-battery = 0 sleep-inactive-ac-timeout = 0 sleep-inactive-battery-timeout = 0 Try setting those and see if it helps you.
