[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1877559] Re: LibreOffice Impress crash on apply a transition effect to a slide

2023-04-10 Thread gdp77
I had a repeated crash when trying to apply certain transitions like
vortex, honeycomb etc.

Reported the bug but found the solution myself by updating mesa drivers.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873398] Re: gnome-disks won't do SMART on NVME drive

2022-03-06 Thread gdp77
I confirm this bug. I am not able to get any smart data from my NVME,
which btw is my boot drive. This is NOT a low importance bug, please
change to high importance, as it may lead to loss of critical data. The
user should be able to know the SMART data and health of his/her NVME
drive.

I am wondering why HDsentinel for Linux is able to read SMART DATA and
not the gnome-disk utility. See attached image

The current date is MAR 2022.

I'm running 20.04 beta amd64 Desktop from a USB stick of the live ISO.

I opened Disks (gnome-disks) and it sees all my drives, but it won't
show SMART stats on my NVME drive (Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB).
The SMART menu item is greyed out. It works fine on other drives.

The NVME has SMART support; it works fine with smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1 for
example. (Though smartctl is not in this live ISO, I have apt-get installed it
at another time and tried it; and
it works fine in the Ubuntu 18.04 that is installed on this machine.)

I've attached a screencast showing the failure.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1946175] [NEW] gnome disk cannot read SMART data (and self tests) from nvme

2021-10-05 Thread gdp77
Public bug reported:

It is impossible to select "SMART data and self test" option for nvme
disks. Nvme disks are becoming more common and this functionality should
be added.

I was able to read smart data from my nvme SSD using HDSentinel (linux
version). So it certainly can be done.

** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1860282] [NEW] corrupted desktop tooltips

2020-01-19 Thread gdp77
Public bug reported:

Desktop tooltips (also browser, apps etc.) are distorted and corrupted
for old AMD cards after latest system update and possibly xorg update.
Is this a xorg related problem?

System Info: https://termbin.com/tzn3

And this is a screencasting of the problem:
https://youtu.be/iutIwrM_Lz0

This is my glxinfo: https://pastebin.com/AMUyf3xa

PS In linux mint forums there is a bypass of the problem by reverting
back to LTS graphic stack, which indeed it works: apt install xserver-
xorg xserver-xorg-video-all

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Can't set keyboard layout change to Ctrl+Shift, Caps Lock, Alt+Shift,
etc. Shift, Caps Lock keys are just ignored in settings.

  [Test Case]

  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the "next layout key" entry
  - try entering a combination of two modifier keys such as Ctrl+Shift
-> the UI should reflect the new keys

  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
    settings
  - press and release Ctrl+Shift
-> the current input source should change

  [Regression Potential]

That UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some
key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and
shouldn't be mixed with this one)

The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier
shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when choosing their
switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects, this
represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 970990] Re: Brightness settings is not persistent after reboot

2013-01-25 Thread gdp77
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 870805 ***

I verify this problem. (12.04 x64 here).

It critically affects battery life, so its importance is not jut "low".
Battery life is lower when using ubuntu compared to windows 7, so I
think that it should be fixed as soon as possible.

Brightness, a restart causes the screen to get fully bright again. I
have read that this is a GNOME limitation - however, most users
including me will probably want that once they set a brightness, it be
  saved.

Current workaround that is used is add an echo >
  /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness line at /etc/rc.local.

The ideal situation would be to save the value of brightness when
  someone changes it.
