[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1648183] Re: Crackling and popping sound when using headphones

2021-02-17 Thread Mohd Imran Jamadar
Mr Robert Joynt,

I am on Ubuntu 20.10, on OMEN-by-HP-Laptop-15-dc1xxx with this Realtek ALC295

I get sound, from head phone , loud and clear, if i plug in the
headphone jack, sound switches from speaker to headphone, and vice
versa.

But if remove the headphone , then the sound from the speaker like low
or mono in nature? will the above fix work?

Please advise?

Title:
Crackling and popping sound when using headphones

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in alsa-driver package in Arch Linux:
  New
Status in Fedora:
  New

Bug description:
Laptop is HP Pavilion - 15-au118tx. The laptop has B and O play and
the output from speakers are just fine, when using headphones there is
some kind of crackling and popping sound in both ears but prominently
  in the left ear.

The issue happens only when the sound is played, if i reduce the PCM
way low using alsamixer, the effect is minimized but the volume is
also reduced. Increasing the volume in the panel increases the PCM as
  well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1891302] [NEW] udisks eats up 10GB RAM in ubuntu 18.04

2020-08-12 Thread Syed Imran
Public bug reported:

Problem: udisks is taking more than 10GB memory in my openstack VM (and
it keeps growing)

Note: more than 30 people have reported this so far.

I have already posted a question in askubuntu.com but no updates.
I see lots of people have reported such issue in Redhat and Fedora and got
patch fixes for it.

But there is no such issues reported for ubuntu as per my analysis.

Please help in providing a patch for the same.

Thanks,
Syed

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1570430] Re: libxcb-image0-dev missing header xcb/xcb_bitops.h

2019-07-07 Thread Imran Khan
The xcb/xcb_bitops.h used to be part of xcb-util, but was dropped in
version 0.4.0 from that package and moved to xcb-util-image.
Unfortunately, the package fails to include the header, which can result
in e.g. compilation failures.

It is also affected by Ubuntu 19.04 disco. Compilation for xcb failed.
installing xcb_util_image package there were no xcb_bitop.h header file
missing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1332900] Re: [Alienware 18, Realtek ALC668, Speaker, Internal] Playback problem

2017-03-29 Thread Mohd Imran Jamadar
So you fix the sound:

1. Open a Terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T).

2. Write 'sudo su' to login as root.

3. Install via apt 'alsa-tools-gui'.

4. Logout via exit.

5. Write 'hdajackretask' and press enter.

6. Click on 'Intel Haswell HDMI' and select 'Realtek ALC3661'.

7. A lot of new entrys are visible. Select 'Show unconnected pins'.

8. Click on 'Overwrite' on Pin ID '0x1a'.

9. Click on the Context Menu and select 'Line out (Center/LFE)'.

10. Click on 'Apply now' and enter your user password.

11. Click on 'Install boot overwrite' to save the settings permanently.

12. Click on your Volume Icon on the top (Ubuntu Unity) and remove the
marker 'mute'.

13. Reboot and your sound work perfect.

Bug description:
Bug seems similar to another reported bug with Alienware 18 laptops.
It should be Realtek ALC3661 however it shows up as ALC668. Sound only
comes out of 1 Channel, which appears to be subwoofer. Unlike the
other bug, closing the lid appears to have no effect on sound.

When doing the bug test, it said sound would alternate between 2
channels, however I only heard one consistent sound. It did not
alternate. I believe it is playing from the subwoofer only. I would
love to know more about how to route the sound to the proper speakers.

I attempted modifications to daemon.conf in pulse and .asoundrc but
have not found the correct configuration yet.

This laptop is equipped with 2.1 Surround and should play sound
accordingly. Also, alsamixer only shows (1) speaker control, whether
this is normal I am unsure.

  Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)

When playing audio through speakers on my Alienware 14 2014, the sound
output is in mono until I plug a headphone in any of the two available
headphone jacks (obviously, the auto-mute option must be disabled).
When I do so, the sound starts to play in stereo.

I would love the sound output to be stereo by default and not be

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1332900] Re: [Alienware 18, Realtek ALC668, Speaker, Internal] Playback problem

2016-05-20 Thread Mohd Imran Jamadar

I've been able to get the latest alsa dev working (2016-04-02) by following the
instructions here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa), installing the
"alsa daily development build" and rebooting. If you've followed the
instructions in my previous answer, you can simply "remove the boot profile"
and reboot. It now correctly identifies the chipset, and the audio speakers and
headphones (including jack detection) works sensibly.

Status in ALSA driver:
  Unknown
Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Also, alsamixer only shows (1) speaker control, whether
this is normal I am unsure.

https://www.dropbox.com/install?os=lnx ). I opened the packages one by one with
gnome-software and pressed Install - nothing, except for a super-quick progress
bar animation, happened. No matter how many times I tried, same result. Also,
an icon pops up on the panel saying "Waiting to install", but nothing seems to
happen.

This only seems to happen with third-party packages; installing a
  random deb from packages.ubuntu.com/xenial worked.

I even tried to reinstall the system to make this work, but same
  problem.

Gdebi, however, installs the packages as expected.

  Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
  Release:14.04

  Package: linux-image-extra-3.13.0-19-generic
  Version: 3.13.0-19.40

When playing audio through speakers on my Alienware 14 2014, the sound
output is in mono until I plug a headphone in any of the two available
headphone jacks (obviously, the auto-mute option must be disabled).
When I do so, the sound starts to play in stereo.

I would love the sound output to be stereo by default and not be
forced to plug anything to achieve that.

Attached is the alsa-info.sh output for my machine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1153188] Re: [FFe] Urdu with better support: Default Fonts

2014-04-07 Thread Imran Rauf
Hi Gunnar,

I did a fresh install of 14.04-beta2 and your package. Everything works
as expected. I am attaching pdf on ur.wikipedia.org as displayed in
firefox.

Best regards,
Imran
P.S. The configuration will not be used by Chrome as it does not pass language
info to fontconfig, a known behavior of Chrome.

** Attachment added: ur.wikipedia.org with Nafees Nastalique font

[FFe] Urdu with better support: Default Fonts

Status in Fontconfig - Font Configuration Library:
  Confirmed
Status in “fonts-nafees” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in “fonts-nafees” package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  To the release team:
This FFe is about adding the font NafeesNastaleeq.ttf to the package. Before
seeking sponsorship, the Urdu users need to confirm that the proposed patch
actually improves the rendering as intended.
The change affects Urdu users only, so no regression risk for other users.

Default fonts in Ubuntu show ugly Urdu text.

It's better that language-selector sets Nafees Regular (Nafees Web
in fonts-nafees package) as default font for all font families
(SansSerif, Serif...except mono) used in Ubuntu.

I would like to ask, if language-selector is able to set specific
keyboard layout for Urdu for 1st time?

  Please Shabbir:
Could you write here the best setting for Urdu Fonts (Using Tweak Tool:
Scale Factor, Hinting, Anitaliasing, Size)?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1153188] Re: Urdu with better support: Default Fonts, Kbd Layout

2014-03-17 Thread Imran Rauf
Hi Gunnar,

I tried the attached xml from #31 and modify the following lines.
edit name=family mode=prepend binding=strong
stringJameel Noori Nastaleeq/string
 /edit

I can confirm that the websites with urdu text (e.g. ur.wikipedia.org)
are being rendered in Nastaleeq font as desired in Firefox.

Many thanks! I hope it will part of next Ubuntu release.

Best,
Imran

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 880198] Re: Google Chrome Won't Install from Ubuntu Center

2011-10-22 Thread Mohd Imran Jamadar
** Description changed:

The problem is that, in this version of the operating system at home
,installing Google Chrome was a bit 'more difficult than usual because
of an error that I was returned from Ubuntu Software Centre during the
  installation process.

The bug is simple but annoying: you can not install Google Chrome in 32
or 64-bit on Ubuntu 11.10 by simply downloading the deb package from the
official site. When you open the file with Ubuntu Software Centre, the
error you get is the following:

- Internal Error
- The file google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb can not be opened.
+ Internal Error
+ The file google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb can not be opened.

Fortunately the solution is very simple. Open the terminal and you have
to move the folder containing the file. Deb that you downloaded Google
Chrome. In my case I typed:

- sudo dpkg -i ~/Scrivania/google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb
+ sudo dpkg -i ~/username/google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb

Enter your password and proceed with the installation. Now Google Chrome
will not install but the terminal will return an error. No fear, you
have to install Chrome finally type:

- sudo apt-get install -f
+ sudo apt-get install -f

And finally you can also enjoy the Google browser on Ubuntu 11.10
  Oneiric
