[Desktop-packages] [Bug 591435] Re: Cancel button does not halt extensions

2016-05-24 Thread jazzynico
Yes, hiding the button could be a temporary workaround.

On the other hand, I wonder how hard it would be to just kill the
extension process from the main code.

Cancel button does not halt extensions

Status in Inkscape:
  Triaged
Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The "Cancel" button does not properly halt execution of Inkscape
  extensions.

This is not normally noticeable because extensions execute quickly.
But for extensions that take a while-- i.e., those that you'd want to
cancel --it turns out not to work. It appears to wait (possibly a
very long time) for the extension to finish executing before stopping
  the operation.

To replicate, select Extensions>Render>L-system. Set Order to 4.
Click Apply, try to cancel the operation. If your computer is fast
and that didn't take very long, set Order to 5, 6, or 7 to make the
  extension take longer to run.

Discovered on Mac OS 10.4/ Inkscape 0.47
Verified on Windows XP/ Inkscape 0.47
Verified on Mac OS 10.6/ Inkscape pre-0.48 snapshot from last week

I'm using 64bit ubuntu 11.04. I've tried both the repository versions

  works fine on Windows.

  To reproduce:
  1. open test.svg in inkscape
  2. File -> Save as: choose eps in the file format
  3. Open saved file and notice that there is no text in the eps file.

I was working on a simple drawing of a box with text. I selected the
box and attempted to scroll the color palette at the bottom of the
screen. I had trouble grabbing the scroll button, but eventually was
able to grab the scroll button and scroll the palette to the blue
shades. I selected a fill color for the box. I then moved back to the
drawing area to resize the box. I was unable to deselect by clicking
elsewhere on the screen. I could not select any of the tools. It was
as if the scrolling of the palette could not release focus back to the
drawing area. I could not select a different color fill. The only
thing I could do was scroll the color palette and close the program by
clicking the X in the top menu bar.

I should have been able to scroll the color palette, select the color
fill, and return to my drawing. I was able to close the program and
reopen and continue working as normal.

Title:
Masks don't work on print or PDF

Status in Inkscape:
  Fix Released
Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
When printing on 0.46 branch, objects with masks don't appear on the
  print.

In the attached picture, the turtle sitting in the water has a mask
with a gradient to make his feet fade into the water. He prints fine
in 0.45.1, but in 0.46 branch he's gone.

Exporting to bitmap works fine on 0.46. Printing to bitmap (Render as
bitmap) works fine also on 0.46. Save as PDF via cairo keeps the
turtle but loses all blurs (blurs not implemented in PDF) and the
mask, so his legs are fully visible. I think PDF should be capable of
a blend to transparent, because the leaves on the bushes blend to
transparent and they export to pdf beautifully.

Inkscape does not correctly render svg and pdf files when using

Bug description:
  Hi!
This is the first time I can complain to Inkscape, it’s really a very good
software, useful and user-friendly. But well, all happens…

I’ve got some problem using some filters with Inkscape those times. In
Inkscape itself there is absolutely no problem: all the problems is on
exportations.
I have a guilty image which have a very different render in its output and in
Inkscape itself.
This guilty image contains mainly two elements:
— a circle, deformed by two filters in the menu deformation. I don’t
know the english names of these filters, but in French it’s « Agitation dilatée
» (dilated agitation?) and « Pourtour déchiré » (torn borders?). This one is
well rended in all format.
— a background, which is a blue square (with some stars, but they are
not important there I guess) transformed to paths to which I’ve removed a copy
of the deformed circle. This one is sometimes removed in the renderings…

To illustrate this bug, I’ve attached the following files in a compressed
file:
— 1.svg: the Inkscape’s SVG created by Inkscape. Inkscape can read it
well (I’ve taken a screenshot in screenshot1.png of what Inkscape display when
openning it.), but not eog (see screenshot2.png).
— 2.svg: the plain SVG created by Inkscape (from 1.svg). This one is
nearly (expect in the borders) well rendered by eog (screenshot3.png), and
Inkscape can read it without problem (screenshot4.png).
— 3.pdf: the pdf created by Inkscape (from 1.svg). This file is not
well rendered in Evince (screenshot5.png), it makes Xpdf crash (but maybe it’s
not Inkscape’s fault there). Inkscape doesn’t render it too (screenshot6.png).
— 4.png: the png created by Inkscape (from 1.svg).

As you can see, the background is most of the time not rendered by program
else than Inkscape, and the pdf file is not well rendered by Inkscape itself…
  I don’t know exactly what’s wrong.

  Hoping these informations will help.
  Martin.

  I do the following:
  1) Starting with a new document
  2) Zoom to 100%
  3) Turn on grid (Shift-#)
  4) Create a perfect circle with a radius divisible by 10 px - in other words,
grid lines touch the top, bottom, left, right, and they run through the center.
  5) Set starting angle of the new circle to 270 and end angle to 90 degrees
  6) Go into pointer mode
  7) Attempt to resize the circle using the right horizontal arrow.

The circle becomes a vertical line; the horizontal radius jumps to
  zero.

If I use Shift or Control to resize or draw the circle without grid
  lines, this does not happen.

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 beta and Inkscape 0.46-5ubuntu1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1597322] Re: necessary sk1libs isn't packaged

2017-01-22 Thread jazzynico
Reproduced on Xubuntu 16.04 (64-bit), with python-uniconvertor 1.1.5-2
and Inkscape 0.91-7ubuntu2.

Inkscape uses Uniconvertor to import and export PLT files, and thus
fails with the same python error.

Also affects Inkscape trunk and 0.92 versions compiled locally (not
specific to the Ubuntu package).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 170225] Re: relative image paths instead of absolute

2017-01-30 Thread jazzynico
@Jarl, I can confirm that Inkscape crashes when linking a JPG and a GIF
file with 0.91 for Windows 8 -64-bit). The good news is that I can't
reproduce the bug with 0.92 on the same computer.

As of the file with both relative and absolute links, I can't reproduce the
crash at all, even with 0.91. Could you please try with 0.92 and confirm it's
fixed? If not please open a new specific report.
Thanks for your comments!

  Using Inkscape 0.91 r13725, on Kubuntu 16.04 64bits, PDF+LaTeX
converts the text to the following, that is, replaces the double
  backslashes by a newline!

Inkscape raising a hand. Although this may sound like a
bug it may be a cool feature if one builds an
application that frequently updates the SVG file and
the changes are being viewed on screen with Inkscape.
  So we have two scenarios:

  Feature:
The Revert command in the File menu is changed into a
dialogue box where the user can specify how often
Inkscape should reload the file, thus refreshing the
screen with the new updates. Something like:
"[checkbox] Revert every [data field] seconds"

  Bug:
Tune Inkscape so that it complaints if it realises that
the SVG file has been changed externally. Provide an
option to deactivate this behavior by activating the
  feature presented above.

  Thanks!

2016-01-07 Thread jazzynico
Reproduced Inkscape 0.91 and trunk rev. 14564 when importing with the internal
system.
Not reproduced when using Poppler/Cairo import.

Tested with Poppler 0.12.1 (on Windows XP 32-bit) and Poppler 0.33.0
(Xubuntu 15.10 64-bit).

That said, Poppler/Cairo is not the default option.I didn't check the
issue tracker and the dev. list, but it should be interesting to compare
both options and switch to Poppler/cairo as default option if the
overall result is better than with the internal import.

According to the screenshot, the image you are trying to edit externally
is embedded in the SVG file. The feature being available for linked
images only, the fact that the menu entry is gray is absolutely normal
(see http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/File-Import.html).

I'm setting the report's status to Invalid. Don't hesitate to comment
and revert the status if you think I'm wrong or if it doesn't work with

-> select "print to pdf" as the printer

Go to the "Page Setup" tab

Expected: the "Paper" options, such as paper size, should work
Observed: they are sall greyed out and you can only print to a custom paper
size equal to the paper size of the document.

When you print to pdf with ANY other program, those options are available.
Inkscape should allow you to choose a different paper size and offer the
options to scale, center or move to place the printed document in whatever
manner relative to the printing area.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1330527] Re: Inkscape: unable to access all objects after ungroup

2014-06-23 Thread jazzynico
Reproduced on Crunchbang Waldorf, Inkscape 0.48.3.1 and trunk revision
13437.

Also note that the trunk version crashes when doing various things with
the file (ungrouping, moving, undoing...). I'll try to investigate the
crash later.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 167262] Re: In the Text and Font dialog, Ctrl+Z (Undo) destroys text

2014-06-23 Thread jazzynico
Is it fixed actually? As far as I understand the original description, the bug
is still present with r13438. I compared it with 0.46 and saw the same behavior.
Could someone else confirm?

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Fix Released
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Debian:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem:

When typing text directly into the "Text and Font"
dialog (Shift+Ctrl+T, Text tab), pressing the Ctrl+Z
key or Edit menu > Undo, removes the text, with no
possiblity of recovery. The Redo action (Shift+Ctrl+Z)
does not recover the text. Even if Redo did recover
the text, it would be easy to lose the text if more
text were typed after the undo.

  Workaround:

Enter text into a separate text editing application,
then copy and paste the text in. This avoids
  accidental loss of text.

  Proposed Solutions:

Disable Undo while the "Text and Font" dialog (Text tab
) text entry dialog, has keyboard focus. Or, if Undo
is pressed, alert the user of the loss of data with a
  Yes/No dialog.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1328217] Re: space bar should allow to easily move around the document without using scrollbars

2014-06-23 Thread jazzynico
The Middle Mouse Button Drag is IMHO the easiest method with Inkscape
0.48.4, but according to you can also activate Space Bar+Left Mouse Drag thanks
to an option in the Inkscape preferences, but it prevents using the
Space Bar to toggle between tools (the manual also gives some other
useful shortcuts)

Note that Space Bar + Move works in the next major revision (0.91,
currently under development), and that the tools toggle issue is fixed
(see Bug #383871 "Let space switch to selector tool even when used for
panning").

  - Whops, that was not exactly the area I want it, let's redraw it from scratch
  - One more time
  - save into plain SVG (I guess Inkscape SVG would do as well)

Expected result: the empty textboxes should be completely forgotten
and deleted; OR they should be visible and accessible, so that you
know they are there and you can move, modify, or remove them

Observed: everything looks like those text boxes you accidentally drew
and left empty don't exist. You can't see them, you can't select them,
you can't reuse them and write into them, or delete them. YET they are
  saved into the SVG file.

You get garbage empty useless invisible text areas that you can't even
  delete.

I ran into the problem described at

"If however you really need flowed text, you will have to convert it
to regular (non-flowed) text by the "Convert to text" command in the
Text menu. THIS COMMAND FULLY PRESERVES THE APPEARANCE AND FORMATTED
OF YOUR FLOWED TEXT but makes it non-flowed and SVG 1.1-compliant."
  (emphasys added)

The part in uppercase is bullshit. If you chose the text and do
"convert to text", the text completely changes its positioning. For
example, I have a text centered to a certain area, and it moves to the
left to an apparently random position.

Also, if you have decided to keep the flowed text feature, it makes NO
SENSE to keep it in its current broken status which corresponds to an
obsolete version of the specs until the SVG 1.2 draft becomes final.
You should fix the implementation to conform to the current status of
  the standard.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1330108] Re: Exporting SVG to EPS messes up rotated text

2014-06-24 Thread jazzynico
Reproduced on Crunchbang Waldorf (Debian stable):
- Opening the attached bug.svg file in Inkscape (0.48.3.1 and trunk revision
13439) shows that the text is already rotated (and thus the exported EPS file
shows the same issue).
- Opening the same file in Firefox, Batik 1.7 (Squiggle) and Viewnor shows as
expected.

But:
- An SVG file created from the attached ODG file with LibreOffice 3.5.4.2 is
correct, and thus the exported EPS is correct too.

The LO version packaged with Trusty is far more recent (4.2.3) than the
one in Debian stable and something changed in the ODG to SVG exporter.
Now the rotation transformation is not applied to the group that
contains the text, but to the text span directly. Inkscape doesn't seem
to handle such a transform correctly.

Qt renderer is very hard with something like this and the result is that thers
a big space between this object an the next.
one way is to look the sources and fix problems like this.

a better way would be an option in inkscape itself. that let us choose
that only full pixels can used for a end and start point. so it will
be impossible to set something to 0.5pixels and in the source of the
svg file it should be too on 1 or 0.

i hope you understand. that would make the work much simpler ind the
  sources much cleaner.

another option would be that wen i set something to the pixel9,
inkscape should write that 9 in the file, not 8.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1248174] Re: The Ubuntu colour palette in Inkscape is different from the one in design.ubuntu.com

2014-08-08 Thread jazzynico
Sorry for the delay. I seems the Inkscape and Ubuntu teams were waiting
for each other...

The patch from comment #16 looks good, but only changes the Accent
Orange value. If I understand correctly, the original report is not
about one specific color but requests a whole update of the palette file
("The colours listed in the palette from Inkscape have no relationship
with the ones in design.ubuntu.com.").

Thus I'd rather use one of the files suggested by ~suv comments #15 and #17.
Could someone from the Ubuntu design team confirm that the current Inkscape
palette file is outdated, not the Accent Orange color only? Thanks!

Attached is a new version of the palette based on the file posted comment #17
and updated with Alberto's tint calculator (thanks a lot, Alberto!).
Alberto, would you be willing to confirm that the new file is correct and can
be committed in Inkscape please?

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: inkscape

The standard method for entering Unicode symbols (such as the Indian
Rupee Sign) into Gtk+-based applications is the sequence:

 2 0 b 9

doing this in Inkscape results in a report that the character is not
printable and no character being inserted. However copying-and-
pasting "₹" directly allows it to be inserted.

Ideally Inkscape would not try to be too-clever-for-its-own-good by
artificially restricting the characters that can be entered with
  overriding the default Gtk+ methods.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 899786] Re: inkscape artwork shifted down when printing

2014-08-12 Thread jazzynico
Not reproduced on Crunchbang Waldorf, Inkscape 0.48.3.1 and trunk
revision 13508, on a virtual printer.

Printing as vector (Rendering tab) works perfectly, and printing as
bitmap shifts up (yes, up, not down) the drawing a bit (know issue
reported Bug #508529).

Could you please test again and confirm it's fixed with a recent
Inkscape version on a recent Ubuntu OS?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1005565] Re: poppler 0.20 breaks build

2012-09-21 Thread JazzyNico
Apparently the changes were introduced in Poppler 0.18 (at least it doesn't
compile on Crunchbang 11, based on Debian Wheezy, Poppler 0.18.4-3).
I'm going to try with a modified configure.ac with a test on 0.18.0 instead of
0.20.0.

  To reproduce:
  1. open test.svg in inkscape
  2. File -> Save as: choose eps in the file format
  3. Open saved file and notice that there is no text in the eps file.

Thanks for your analysis, Mark!

If I understand correctly, checking a "save (or extension) in progress"
status before quitting (or destroying the desktop) would fix the issue?

It seems to be used to cancel the running extension.

The error messages are not exactly the same, but yes, it looks very
similar.

Not reproduced on Windows XP, Inkscape 0.48.4 and trunk revision 13882. Maybe
my test was too short (only ~50 tries). Any idea on how long it took you to run
into the issue?
And does it happen with any color palette, or with a specific one (I've limited
my tests with the Inkscape default palette)?

Title:
Hang on import of pdf files

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:

Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Inkcsapce daily build (ppa) installed on Kubuntu 12.04 hangs evrytime
while importing a pdf file. It does not depend on the file and the
dialog to preview the file is not opened. The program just frezes.

The output on the terminal is:
  (inkscape:3367): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_get_visible: assertion
`GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

I have poppler .26 installed (self compiled) and okular, kile (live
preview of pdf), Scribus and GIMP (import pdf) working fine.

I cant even compile inkscape with poppler 0.26 and I get a lot of
errors (but this is not the same bug I think).

  Thanks for helping...

  Binary package hint: inkscape

This bug in Inkscape's handling of the Datamatrix extension was
  reported in Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
  bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=618835

  * Go to Extensions->Render->Barcode - Datamatrix
  * Select Rows = 19, Cols = 10,  Square Size / px = 4
  * Click "Apply"
  >> The extension raises an error

The main problem here is that Inkscape uses spin-buttons in the
extension dialog, which invite the user to scroll through any
combination of row/col values. However, the extension itself only
accepts a finite set of combinations... in other words, the user can
very easily select an invalid input for the script. Combining this
with "Live preview" leads to bad results!

It might be better (if a bit ugly) to have a drop-down list containing
  only the valid row/col combinations.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 662150] Re: Indian Rupee: 2 0 b 9 reports "unprintable"

Tested again on Windows XP:
- reproduced with 0.48.2.

@Open-Elearning - Could you please confirm you're running Inkscape
0.48.5? As far as I can tell, the latest official Inkscape packages for
your Ubuntu version is inkscape 0.48.3.1-1ubuntu1.

2013-02-20 Thread JazzyNico
Not reproduced on Windows XP, Inkscape 0.48.4.

Did the crash happen only once, or is it easily reproducible?
Is your JPEG file located on a remote file system or on your local disk?

Note that the Extension>Color group doesn't work with bitmap images
(only applies to vector objects), and that you should use the
Extension>Raster menu instead.
