[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1910856] Re: Ubuntu 20.04.1 - network-manager instable with Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wifi

2021-01-31 Thread Martien de Jong
I think I'm having the exact same problem. My oldish dell xps 13 with
this network controller has worked fine since ubuntu 12.04, but since
installing 20.04, wifi keeps dropping out, bringing up an authentication
dialog. Since the dialogue already has my credentials filled in, I would
already be happy if it would reconnect without bothering me.

In NVidia X Server Settings, I can switch to Intel graphics. When I do
this and reboot, then fractional scaling works correctly. With NVidia
graphics enabled, it does not work correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-05-17 Thread Jesper de Jong
This was working fine with the initial release of Focal Fossa, but has
stopped working since a recent update on my Dell XPS 15.

It's an older model (2014) with 3200x1800 screen. I was using 175%
scaling but now it seems to scale everything to 200%, and the Gnome top
bar is too long so the icons on the top right are not visible anymore.

This laptop has both Intel and NVidia graphics. The NVidia X Server
Settings app tells me I have NVidia driver version 390.132 - so it looks
like this does not just happen with NVidia driver 440.64.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 437288] Re: Nautilus uses a lot of heap memory coping large amounts of data

2019-02-10 Thread Rex de Jong
Re-reading my answer, I doubt it is clear what I meant. What I mean is:

No, the issue is not occurring anymore. I have been using Nautilus in
the form of GNOME Files, and have copied large amounts of data
frequently. Noted that I use Debian Stable, so I guess it is save to say
it will not occur in Ubuntu.

Hope that is a bit more clear ;)

Switch to Noto Sans as default font for Japanese and/or Korean?

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 16.04 Noto Sans CJK is the default font for rendering

So now I ask: Is there an interest from Japanese and Korean users to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1690520] Re: Scaling resets from 1.5 to 1 after screen lock / unlock

2017-05-13 Thread Jesper de Jong
It doesn't have anything to do with the lock screen; if I go to System
Settings / Brightness & Lock and set Lock to OFF, then wait 5 minutes
for the screen to turn off, then press a key to wake it up again, then
the scaling is also reset to 1.

  [Test Case]

  1. Open a Nautilus window and switch to List view
  2. Go to location with write permission
  3. Select a file and try to rename.
  4. When prompted to rename (filename becomes a text entry), open new tab.
  5. Select a file, try to copy and paste. You will see that file is not copied
and pasted.
  6. Go back to original tab. If the file that was selected in step 3 is still
selected, unselect it.
  7. Try to copy and paste. It should work.
  8. Try to rename again, and open new tab.
  9. Close old tab, and try to copy and paste. It won't work, and there is no
way to restore, except opening a new window.

  [Regression Potential]

  Already fixed upstream with

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1208469] Re: No option to disable hostname

2013-11-11 Thread Kees de Jong
Hi Robert,

Thanks! In which Ubuntu version will this be implemented? 14.04? We're
currently using 12.04.

Two more questions. The dir /usr/share will be overwritten with
software upgrades right? Is there also a static place to put these
settings? For example: /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/?

And is there also a way to list all the possible settings? Or are all
the settings that are possible also in /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/?
But if there is a command to list all settings then I'm all ears.
Thank you again.

Kind regards,
Kees

For PCI compliance we need to hide all references to the username. Or
any other hints for that matter. We could disable everything, but not
the hostname in the top panel. I would like to request this feature.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 696214] Re: No possibility to personalize Unity (11.04)

2012-09-16 Thread Dooitze de Jong
** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu)
   Status: Expired => New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: unity

People can't personalize there own digital working environment.
Personalize is I think the power of Linux and if you take that away
could cause a drastic reduction of the use of Ubuntu at home and in
  business.

  Some examples:
  People can not
  -- add applets/indicators to panels
  -- change position of panels
-- change the position of indicators
  -- change thickness of panels
-- change the sequence of icons

- I do a lot of video editing and I need the CPU Frequency applet to
- configure my CPU for the best results of creating and editing video's.
+ They might be able to do this in a really difficult way but that does
+ not take away, that it is non user-friendly
